Ja'Marr Chase Reacts to Bengals' Loss vs Packers
Transcript
00:00You can't sit here and pout, got to go back to work, got a fast week coming up against the Steelers,
00:06so you got to look at the film, do corrections, find out what we like best with Joe at quarterback, and move on.
00:12Zach keeps saying he feels like you guys are close, he feels like you guys are very much still in this,
00:16you're shaking your head, yeah, do you agree with him?
00:18Yeah, 100%, yeah.
00:19Why so?
00:21I mean, this is the most probably offensive yards and rushing yards we've had for a little minute,
00:27and it was Joe's first game, and we left a lot out there.
00:32We didn't really leave a lot out there, but we made a lot of plays,
00:35and we could have had more out there the first half, but we didn't, so still more than improvement.
00:41How important was it to come out and kind of establish his physicality at the first drive of the second half?
00:48Say that again?
00:49How important was it to establish some sort of physicality with the offense to kind of,
00:53you know, like the first drive of the season in Cleveland,
00:56when you guys seemed to execute physically?
00:58Yeah, coming out first, coming out second half,
01:02we just found out what we like best against the defense they were running,
01:05the scheme they were running.
01:07Zach, in these moments, he's always like preaching a lot of positivity,
01:10a lot of sticking together.
01:10You've been here a long time in tough stretches.
01:13How much does that resonate, you know, when y'all are going through stuff like this?
01:16How much, after hearing it for so many years,
01:17how much does that help guys kind of not get too down?
01:21We're going to be fine.
01:22I'm going to be on Zach's side, hold his back.
01:26But we're almost there, like he said.
01:27You know, we're almost there kicking a throw down.
01:31There's a lot of progress to be made,
01:33but there's a lot of progress that we have just made that was done.
01:36So we've still got a lot of work to do.
01:39Looks like y'all had an extended talk on the sideline again,
01:41like in the middle of the game, y'all were just chatting.
01:42What's that conversation like?
01:44Is it just, what are y'all kind of going over?
01:46It's us talking.
01:47We're always talking about the game plan, what we like and what we don't like.
01:49So that's always something we always do.
01:51I know there's no moral victories, but kind of what Mitch was going to say,
01:56how encouraged were you by having Joe under center today?
02:00I was, I mean, I didn't really get to practice with him.
02:03So, I mean, I was just out there just trying to make a play for him.
02:09You know what I'm saying?
02:10At the end of the day,
02:10it's throwing the ball up to one of the best receivers in the league.
02:13I just got to make a play.
02:14But at the end of the day, Joe did good with communicating with the receivers
02:18and talking to the receivers of what we like and what we see
02:21and if we want a conversion route.
02:23Did that improve during the game?
02:24Did that improve during the game or just kind of evolve during the game?
02:28I mean, we didn't really have it on too many routes,
02:29but certain routes that we had it on, I mean, me, Joe, and T,
02:32we all talked about it in the huddle before the certain play,
02:35and, you know, that's how we built the chemistry right there.
02:37How many reps would you say you did get with Joe this week
02:40before the game on Sunday?
02:41Probably about 12.
02:42Is that a lot for you?
02:45Like, you know, we've seen sometimes when Joe has been injured,
02:47you say he doesn't really – you guys don't need those reps.
02:50There's a difference between Joe Burrow and Joe Flacco.
02:52Right.
02:52You know what I'm saying?
02:53I've been playing with Joe for years.
02:54I have been playing with Joe Flacco for a week.
02:59So, I mean, those reps I had weren't good enough,
03:03but we definitely get better.
03:05There's always more room to improve.
03:06Have you ever surprised yourself, I mean,
03:08with barely being able to practice a brand-new quarterback
03:10and you go out and have a game like you did in the touchdown you did?
03:14I'm just trying to be here for my guys, man.
03:17My guys know what I went through this week.
03:18They know I was in a lot of pain.
03:20So, my guys supported me, and they held my back until game time.
03:24What happened with the illness?
03:27You know, you got sickers.
03:28Just close.
03:29I ain't talking about all that.
03:30I mean, that's kind of encouraging.
03:32You get 12 snaps with a guy and you get 94 yards.
03:38I mean, what do you think you might be able to do with a week of practice?
03:44I'll just build on chemistry, build on routes.
03:46It's the only way we're going to get better.
03:47Is there certain points in the game where you saw his –
03:49how many years he's been in the league really play a big factor?
03:52I don't know, man.
03:57He's just so poised.
03:59Like, he has a little more expression than Joe,
04:06but he's very poised in the huddle, like, the whole time.
04:11Were all 12 reps Wednesday?
04:13Did you get anything with him on Thursday?
04:15Walk-through Thursday.
04:16That was it.
04:17When he's got that kind of poised,
04:18what does that do for the whole offense?
04:19When's it Thursday?
04:20Yeah, I missed Friday was a walk-through, so.
04:22When he's got that kind of poised,
04:23what does that do for y'all as an offense?
04:25Just keep us focused.
04:26Keep the O-line focused.
04:27Keep the receivers focused and the running backs focused.
04:29Can you take us through the touchdown?
04:37We was actually calling –
04:39they was actually calling another play,
04:40but I was telling them to change it
04:42because they was jumping a lot of routes,
04:43but they ended up clouding me
04:45instead of running three buzz or three weak to my side.
04:48And I just ended up working.
04:51He just threw it up to me,
04:52and I just made a catch.
04:53What made you change the play, though?
04:55Say it again.
04:56You changed the play?
04:57Pretty much, yes.
04:58What did they play you instead of three buzz?
05:00What did they play?
05:01Cloud.
05:02They played cloud, too.
05:03How often do you do that?
05:04How often do you change a play?
05:08Every here and there, maybe.
05:09I mean, the guy had your pin, didn't he?
05:13Didn't he have your arm pin?
05:14Yeah.
05:15But it was like –
05:17he threw the pass to make it like –
05:21either I get a flag or I make the catch.
05:23Jamar, looking at the standings,
05:24Thursday's game becomes about much more important for you guys
05:28in order to stay in the hunt in the division.
05:30How much are you treating this game like a must-win at home?
05:34We need to play four quarters of football to win
05:38and potentially keep us in the race.
05:41Well, this next game's always the most important game
05:43just because it's a divisional game also.
05:45But just the rankings that we got going on,
05:48the standings where we're at right now.
05:50We know the Steelers are going to try to come in
05:52and raw dog us and kill us,
05:54but we're going to be ready for that challenge
05:56and we're going to be waiting for it.
05:57Can you ride a little bit of this momentum?
05:59I mean, you know, the fourth quarter.
06:02I mean, we're going to see how it goes.
06:04At the end of the day, we still got to capitalize on it
06:06for game time, but other than that,
06:08we're going to try to get it as far as we can.
