01:18wanting to kind of find a little bit quieter lifestyle

01:23We live in a two-bedroom apartment.

01:25This was a place that we wanted to put roots.

01:27We decided on the Columbia area because it's still

01:31got some of that older charm.

01:33Look how beautiful this is.

01:34It is gorgeous out here.

01:36I think the biggest challenge for us

01:38is trying to find a way that we, as design professionals,

01:41bring our opposing styles together.

01:44I want Southern charm.

01:45I want a Greek revival house.

01:46I want those big columns when you drive up

01:48and just something with that history behind it.

01:50No, I get that.

01:51But what I want is something a little bit more

01:53with craftsmanship.

01:54I want a craftsman style home because it tends

01:56to suggest quality.

01:58I want something I don't have to deal with maintenance.

02:00I don't want to be spending time working on the house.

02:02We don't agree on a lot of things.

02:04I mean, even our decorating styles are different.

02:07I love antiquing, where he's a lot more, I'd say,

02:10more in the modern.

02:12There's my other issues.

02:12Like, I really want a connected space

02:15where our kids can see our activities.

02:17I know, but having at least the kitchen, like, cordoned off,

02:20where, you know, if there's a lot of mess

02:22and all of a sudden people are coming over, they can't see it.

02:28I do have to say, it looks pretty great out here.

02:32But to own.

02:34But I mean, that gives us a chance for kids

02:36to, like, grow and run around and be able to, like,

02:38know where their food comes from and not say the answer.

02:55especially when you start thinking about having kids.

03:18So growing up, we went through apartments.

03:22And so we had to learn to share.

03:23And growing up as an only child,

03:25I didn't have to share space until I went to college.

03:30But we'll have to see what Christina comes up with.

03:35I would much rather use some of that money towards our wedding

03:39or honeymoon.

03:40It's starting to get close to our wedding day.

03:43And in the middle of all this, we're

03:44going to try to find a house.

03:45Maybe slightly masochistic, but it's fine.

03:52Today, they're out in Cullioca, 15 minutes from Columbia,

03:56to see a place with the rural vibe and land

03:59that Megan says she wants.

04:04My concern is we started having kids.

04:07There's, God forbid, an emergency.

04:12Yeah, but I think that we're not that far from Columbia.

04:14I mean, we could really make it work.

04:16So the house that we're going to see today

04:21We are going full on historic here.

04:24It is on over 2 1⁄2 acres, just under 500.

09:49The price is a little higher, but again, it's close to downtown.

09:53Given the wedding, it would be wise for us to be a little bit more conservative about our spending.

10:24So I think that this house is a lot of charm, but this home is almost fully remodeled,

10:29so I do think they'll both find compromise in it.

11:33This is a nice-sized bedroom.

11:34Because only three bedrooms, and this is one.

11:36Just given the size of this bedroom alone, you could fit three kids in here.

11:42It's a pretty neat layout.

11:43I do like the layout, and it does scream like 1930s craftsmen.

12:30And that's what I'm going to get to, is I appreciate a lot of these things.

12:34And I can see where Megan's coming from, but I can start adding up a lot of the money effort involved.

12:42This house is pretty darn close to what I'm looking for, but it's had a lot of wear and tear.

12:47In reality, is this really what you want?

12:54So their agent finally lines up what she thinks they've needed all along.

13:17But their agent's taking a risk because these California transplants want Tennessee history.

17:49The craftsmanship that you like so much, it does have that.

19:46between getting married and wanting to start a family soon,

19:49and the idea of being able to move in day one was a big deal.

19:56I mean, that could make this a little bit more of a focal point.

20:02We got the house for $475, and we're really happy about it.

20:07The house surprised me with the fact of how much I liked it.

20:10There's so many ways we can add little charm here and there,

20:12or even just bringing in our own furniture that no one else has.

20:16The way this house is designed, it's intended for us to live with each other.

20:19We got the one big space, right, between the kitchen,

20:22dining, living, kind of an intimate space.

20:25You don't really want to leave it.

20:26We get the four bedrooms that I was really wanting,

20:28and I think there's a chance my mom may be out here at least a little bit more than

20:32she originally had thought.

20:34I would have loved to have more land, but being honestly pragmatic about the fact of

20:38the upkeep and the amount of cost that comes with that, it didn't make sense.

20:42Kids are not cheap.

20:43Buying a house is one of the biggest milestones other than marriage and kids,

20:48and to be able to say that we're going to be knocking off two in one year

20:52is a little crazy, I'm not going to lie.

20:55We're a little ambitious, but it's a big deal.
