00:00Every French border patrol vessel in the region, along with a number of French lifeboats,
00:05are currently escorting multiple migrant dinghies towards Britain.
00:09If those currently in the channel make it to UK waters, it will take the number of migrants
00:14who have made the illegal crossing so far this year beyond that 25,000 number.
00:21Well, joining me to talk about this is GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White.
00:26Mark, that big number, 25,000, is rapidly approaching us.
00:34Well, there's no doubt it's a grim milestone and we can confirm to you now
00:38that more than 25,000 small boat migrants have crossed the English Channel
00:44since the beginning of the year.
00:46600 plus have crossed today alone.
00:51All 600 having reached UK waters
00:55and all have been taken to Dover Harbour.
00:58The figure is somewhere in the region of 620-odd so far today.
01:04And it may continue to grow because, as we speak,
01:08more small boats have been spotted in French waters.
01:13They are under escort by French patrol boats
01:17as they make their way towards UK waters.
01:20So, if they make it, we could be at least 750 for today, just adding to that.
01:28I mean, we're already at 25,150 for the year so far.
01:35So, it just shows you how quickly things can clock up.
01:40And you're looking there at images of effectively border force vessels
01:44and lifeboats stacking up at Dover Harbour just in the last couple of hours.
01:52It was such a surge of small boats this morning that border force was completely overwhelmed.
01:59They had three of their catamaran vessels that you can see here
02:03out in the middle of the English Channel,
02:07but they were completely overwhelmed and unable to cope.
02:11And they called on the services of multiple lifeboats.
02:15We had lifeboats from Ramsgate, from Wal-Mart, from Dover and from Dungeness.
02:21One of the Dover lifeboats coming in there with a rigid inflatable lifeboat.
02:26That boat there was carrying just by itself 74 migrants from one boat.
02:33Another border force vessel had 170 migrants on board.
02:38I've never really seen a border force vessel with numbers that high before.
02:45We believe that was 92 that were taken off one migrant boat.
02:49And it also had the load from another migrant boat of some 78
02:54that took us to 170 on that one border force vessel.
03:00Absolutely packed to the gunwales.
03:01And, of course, this comes just two days after our Prime Minister
03:07stood up shoulder to shoulder with Donald Trump in Scotland
03:11and spoke of the work that his government was doing to smash the gangs,
03:18getting on top of the situation, he assured the US President
03:23when he was asked questions about the state of our migrant crisis
03:28in comparison to the efforts that he's been making over in the United States
03:33to curbing the influx of illegal migrants across the southern border.
03:39Well, whatever Sir Keir Starmer says about smashing the gangs,
03:44it's self-evident from these images, Alex,
03:47that we keep seeing every time the weather allows
03:51that we're getting record numbers and we are at record numbers,
03:54more than 50% ahead of where we were at this point last year.
