00:00Thank you, Mr. Chair.
00:03The United Arab Emirates wishes to highlight the importance of the work of UNHCR on international protection and displacement
00:10and reiterates its commitment and strong support for its important mandate.
00:15My country stresses the critical need for enhanced international cooperation
00:19to address these unprecedented levels of displacement and the needs of protection that continue to be rising today.
00:26Among the several areas in which the UNHCR is contributing to face this uncertain situation,
00:35the UAE reiterates its deep concern over the devastating impact of the conflict on the people of Sudan.
00:42This situation is due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis
00:45and the persistent breaches of international humanitarian law by the warring parties,
00:51namely the Sudanese armed forces and the rapid support forces.
00:54Mr. Chair, the parties of the conflict, especially those represented in the room,
01:00are only interested in politicizing this committee and accusing others and spreading false narratives
01:05instead of assuming their own legal and moral responsibilities.
01:10Due to such conduct, the conflict is having a devastating humanitarian consequence on the civilian population,
01:16with thousands of civilians, including women and children,
01:19not being able to have access to food, water, and medical supplies,
01:24and are being forced to leave their homes.
01:26What we continue to hear is the complete disregard of the conditions faced by Sudan's own population,
01:34which is continuously suffering from the widespread famine due to the ongoing fighting.
01:44Sudan has become a land of atrocities where the most fundamental principles are being violated on a daily basis.
01:53What is needed is clear.
01:55The fighting must stop, and civilians must be protected.
02:00A party to the conflict, Mr. Chair, shouldn't lecture and prescribe to this hall on the basic humanitarian principles.
02:07They should simply follow them.
02:09Mr. Chair, the UAE remains focused on what truly matters, alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.
02:17We continue to deliver humanitarian aid, support UNHCR's life-saving efforts,
02:22and continue to work constructively with international partners to secure access for relief operations.
02:28As a member of Sudan's squad, the UAE will continue in calling for an immediate and lasting ceasefire,
02:36and we reiterate that Sudan's future governance is for the Sudanese people to decide
02:41through an inclusive and transparent transition process, not controlled by any warring party.
02:48I thank you, Mr. Chair.
