00:02So are you familiar with Easter Island in South America?

00:03I know what those statues are and all that stuff,

00:06but I'm not familiar with what happened to the island.

00:08So that island was an ancient civilization that was the Mecca.

00:11It had everything off land.

00:12It had big trees, tons of food.

00:14People settled there, and they said,

00:15this place is incredible.

00:17It's paradisical.

00:18Then they started cutting down the trees to fish.

00:19They started eating all the mammals.

00:21And what actually happened is because they were so remote,

00:23the middle of the ocean, nowhere near South America,

00:25nowhere near anywhere else, there were no more canoes.

00:27They cut down the last tree.

00:28There was no more food on the island,

00:29and the population collapsed.

00:31The island was barren.

00:32It was void of trees, void of life, void of anything,

00:35and everybody there died.

00:36I thought it was like a mystery

00:44calling to the gods to help save things

00:46because they were going so bad,

00:47but the actual anthropology, the population, the collapse,
