01:49so yeah it's just been it's been fantastic they've certainly been keeping busy enjoying lots of activities
01:55some more successful than others
02:08but have also been sharing milestone moments
02:12they had no idea what she was going to be planning so i thought everything was a surprise
02:15every day every minute of that day was a big surprise oh my god oh happy birthday we did say
02:23before we joined the ship that we were going to do as many different sorts of experiences as we could
02:28in the you know in the week that we had and that's exactly what we did it was really good fun
02:34from the uk our ship sailed to the spanish port of cadiz the first point of call for our guests
02:40they have since been taking in the sights of gibraltar and viga before arriving at our final destination
02:48at the port of brest on the northwestern coast of france it's day five of our cruise and on their
02:55final day mom shin and daughter sarah are up early and ready to explore one of brest's popular tourist
03:02attractions the national botanical gardens know any french ladies bonjour
03:10jamao croissant oh très bien mon ami
03:17for best friends kerry and julie they are easing into their final day while planning their adventure
03:22in brest good morning hello oh thank you i don't think we've eaten in here yet that's lovely perfect
03:29i'm wondering if i could take him home with me nice what i needed it is always nice to be served it's
03:37always nice and we've decided that we need to be served way more often than we currently are even
03:42in our own homes i need to take the chef home didn't want to have a too big of a breakfast because we
03:48had some treats and things planned ahead for the rest of the day so what do you think today walking
03:53tour or something like that maybe on foot yeah that would be nice we had done quite a lot of sort of
03:58semi-adventurous stuff during the course of the cruise and we wanted to do something a little more local
04:02breast isn't a huge port so we decided to go on something a little bit of history and culture i
04:07think was in need wasn't it and our feet firmly and our feet firmly on the ground walking we've laughed
04:12at so much stuff it's been lovely and also that thing of i mean i know i know you yeah but that we've
04:19got so much more in common than i thought in the first place i know i think this has anchored our
04:25friendship very good boom boom i see what you did there well i'm all full yeah i'm good to go i'm
04:33ready ready yeah i never know where the gangway is do you meanwhile our northern lasses have taken a
04:4010 minute drive to the standa la valley to meet expert loik at the national botanical conservatory
04:47of brest hello hello my name is loik lovely my name's sarah i'm shin the national botanical gardens
04:54in brest attracts over 400 000 locals and tourists alike per year nestled in the heart of brest the
05:02conservatory is a beacon to those interested in botany conservation and the natural world established
05:08in 1975 the disused rock quarry became a sanctuary for endangered plant species when the rate of plant
05:15extinctions was at an all-time high across the world and what with breasts wet mild and humid climate
05:22you can see why it's become the perfect home but first things first loik have you got a map because
05:29this place is huge if you want to discover the green the botanic garden it's by this way and you could
05:36you can use this map we are here all this part is a botanic garden so we arrived at the botanical
05:43gardens and you know what they were absolutely huge i didn't realize how big they were going to be
05:50after the visit of the botanic garden you we are going to meet us to the greenhouses by this way
05:56lovely lovely thank you thank you so much right then that's good lead the way let's go yeah yeah
06:02visiting this stunning park is free just don't forget your comfy shoes there'll be some frogs in
06:07there do you know that frog spawn no frogs well frog spawn as well i guess oh this one's fern isn't it
06:16is it this fern no looks like fern no love that's not fern mom knows best sarah that one's fern
06:24there there you go that looks like doesn't it i know more about plants than you yeah you're into
06:30the plants marlin are you definitely today the cruise ship ambition is docked in brest on the
06:51northwestern coast of france and while mother and daughter duo shin and sarah have been getting to
06:56grips with flora and fauna isn't this fern no looks like fern no love that's not fern now off the ship
07:05kerry and julia keen to soak up breasts culture this must be it this is the oldest street in breast
07:13isn't it beautiful place at britain's western edge lies brest a city shaped by the sea for centuries it's
07:21been a key naval stronghold but during world war ii much of brest was left in ruins however it was
07:28rebuilt into a modern and vibrant city and is famous for its maritime culture its passion for conservation
07:36delicious crepes and its celtic roots
07:42kerry and julie are on a whistle stop tour of brest and their first stop is rusa malo the oldest street in
07:49the city oh hello hello hello my name is caroline i'll be your guide for today first stop on our tour we
07:58met a lovely lady called caroline so welcome to the street of saint malo yeah so this is the most
08:04ancient part of the city she was so enthusiastic bubbly full of fun mildly eccentric one thing you
08:12should probably know about best is that it's been completely destroyed during the second world
08:16world really yeah she was just so so lovely and so happy to see us this street that was saved by the
08:23woman lives there her her name is miracle and she's saved yes because um because it was supposed to be
08:31destroyed at some point she's been here for 35 years and she's been like fighting hard to get it
08:36oh good it's always a strong woman who wins the day exactly and she's like he's a little hero here
08:43what resonated with me was the fact that one woman stopped that entire historic street from being
08:49destroyed because she would not budge and i'm like they're the suffragettes of today and i'm absolutely
08:54100 here for that yeah nothing like a cobbled street and a headstrong woman to keep the magic of
09:00brest alive meanwhile shin and sarah are enjoying her senses overload taking in the sights smells
09:07sounds at brest's national botanical gardens we do go to like garden centers anyway don't you
09:14we do like your plants she likes flowers so it was something nice to do wasn't it this is beautiful
09:21isn't it this is stunning you can hear the bird and i can hear something else as well is it a bird
09:27is it a plane near a waterfall i think oh lovely oh my god wow did you get a better view the other side
09:40yeah maybe yeah there you go lovely watch let's get down yeah just be careful so any fish no i can't see any
09:50any tadpoles very nice but very noisy oh look at the size of this one it's huge yeah it looks like
09:59a brolly a massive umbrella is that in the book yeah it's called gunnera gunnera man
10:05knee cutter snap it off news it's an umbrella that's probably what they did back in the day
10:11yeah beautiful perfect shelter nothing like a multi-purpose plant asian i think a good brolly
10:18very good you definitely won't get wet with that parasol
10:25kerry and julie are still exploring rusa malo the oldest street in brest and are discovering that it
10:30has a lot more to it than meets the eye come with me i'll show you the garden where
10:35a miracle happened oh what is that miracle our cattle tree that gave a fruit it's the first one in
10:41britney everywhere we've been and we've had a local tour guide they've been so enthusiastic right
10:48i'm passionate about wherever we are yes like the whole gardens are are managed by the the association
10:54that runs this little street so it was started by a group of punks in the in 1989
11:02and so that's why you know when you come here on sunday that's full of music lots of shows
11:07oh nice i'm seeing it as well as well and some juggling and maybe some hula hooping as well
11:12oh so yeah this looks like a little secret garden through there it is do you want to come with me
11:19yes yes all right come in come in to the little secret garden it is like a little secret
11:26garden yeah how pretty there's a little entrance to this lovely sort of botanical garden that wasn't
11:32a botanical garden yeah it's like a secret garden yeah so you've got lots of little varieties of
11:38plants from all around the world the world because really you know when lilies and everything when
11:42france was organizing like scientific missions around the world they would always set sales from
11:48here in brest because we're we're a big military port yeah we're a big port yeah yeah yeah and so
11:55for example this is from new zealand uh hydrangeas in britany come from japan so nothing is very uh
12:02nothing is french well it's all french now but it wasn't french exactly
12:08i noticed there's a lot of cats here ah yeah it's because my ray our the lady who saved this this
12:14street she loves cats does she and so she takes takes in lots of stray cats and then she takes care
12:20of them you know yeah julie's not a fan of cats i wouldn't hurt a cat at all but i'm petrified of them
12:28and they came bill came out to see me which wasn't fun at all i think that's a good time to signpost the
12:35end of the rue saint malo tour but full marks for facing your fears julie over in the botanical gardens
12:42and shin and sarah are about to stumble across some history themselves so after the second world war
12:49they basically needed stone to rebuild everything so everything was like a quarry then i believe in
12:551975 the botanical gardens bought the quarry now some of this stone basically absorbs the heat
13:03so then like other mediterranean plants can grow and like the heat will spread across
13:07that's what it says in here oh that's good yeah not lovely oh bamboo there look sarah bambo
13:13it's what pandas eat yeah of course we saw multiple things at botanical gardens didn't we so first of
13:19all we um hibiscus yeah we saw an hibiscus plant fern um hycines beautiful because this is as big as
13:29me here well lilies oh look at these look like lilies to me i think they're lilies from one day
13:37so i think the plan next is i think we're going to meet luic at the tropical greenhouses because
13:52there there is some very endangered species of plants and as shin and sarah go off in search of
13:58the tropics and loig tour guide caroline has taken kerry and julie to a stop off for some sweet treats
14:06something to sample from your local delight would be absolutely fantastic wouldn't it they're showing
14:10us the way oh oh yeah oh so we found this little um shop called pom pom all right to come have a taste
14:19of our little tree smells lovely so good here you've got the pom pom so it's a it's a young sailor's
14:26hat oh is it like they still wear that every day to work and um and the little red pom pom yes it's
14:35so that they don't get hurt when they knock their head on the other beam or in the boat okay let's
14:40try one um tuck in ladies oh it's got caramel in it yeah everything is about caramel in this town
14:47is that salty caramel yeah i love salty caramel and all of the little sweets and treats in there
14:56they're all handmade i think they're all handmade but they smell delicious smell lovely yeah and then
15:00you've got the world famous queen amon yeah is this the thing that smells really buttery yeah it's
15:07half butter half flour no not even a half flour it looks like a bread but when you cut it looks like
15:13pastry like um like a croissant yes oh yeah that's the smell i'm getting it literally smells like
15:22that doesn't it would you like to try some yes please oh my gosh we're not very it's like an extra
15:32statin later i know oh it's very that's really good very sweet that is such a bit of me not so much
15:41julie but you know sometimes you've got to take one for the team haven't you so i had her share as well
15:49lovely with julie purchasing a few chocolate treats for the kids back home bye bye
15:55shin and sarah are at the final stop of their tour
15:58and they're reuniting with expert loik at the tropical greenhouse to take a look at some rare
16:03tropical plant species look at these very rare plants coming from island of mauritius
16:11island of mauritius it's a long way from here it remains only 15 specimen of this plant 15 yes this
16:18tree is near extinction it remains only a little population of these plants and it's very rare in the
16:25wild now it's an ibiscus hibiscus insularis like the hibiscus tea yes yes exactly so it's very important
16:32because it is so yes yes and the tea is gorgeous
16:38here another tree very interesting for us this tree is totally extinct in the wild yes now it disappeared
16:46and you have in front of you the tree specimens the last tree specimens in the world and what's the
16:53name of this one oh it's um latin name is melicia begonifolia melissina melicia begonifolia so most of
17:04the plants have latin names now a lot of latin is hard to pronounce anyway and a lot of them had really
17:10long names it was very difficult to pronounce them i just shortened one of them for mel i think it was
17:16something like mel mel melitosi i just said we'll just call it now we'll call it mel yeah here you have
17:23the giant aroma from sumatra around 10 years the plant will produce a flower 10 years before to have a
17:32flower it's incredible because the height of the flower couldn't be reached three meter wow and i
17:40would have loved to have been there when it does flower after the the blooming the the flower disappear
17:47what stage is this one at currently this one have around four years so you have to wait i think you'd
17:53like to make the trip i'd like to make the trip back and see it i think i'm ready for something to
17:58eat and drink me lovely we'll go find something afterwards lovely to meet you thank you thank you
18:03thank you for all the knowledge it was amazing yes i'm going to show you how to go to the creperie
18:08if you want to eat something yeah come with me lovely oh a creper two creper three
18:16as these two go to locator crepe or crispus if we're keeping with the latin theme cruise enthusiasts
18:23kerry and julie are now about to view brest from a very different angle as they take the local commute
18:29literally into les ateliers des capucins a vibrant and cultural leisure hub for a cable car let's hope
18:36they don't mind heights so just after we came out of the patisserie just down the road around the
18:42corner there was the cable car this looks fun who was um jean moulin jean moulin was a famous french
18:50resistance oh okay oh you stand up you don't sit down no oh there was a moment where i thought
18:59i'm not getting in this and then actually i had a word with myself pulled up my big girl pad big
19:03girl pants and in we got i'm so glad we did it was another amazing view all right off we go but
19:12what was amazing is even the start point of that cable car is quite high up because you're
19:16overlooking all of the naval dockyard already oh wow look at this it is amazing like it is like
19:22it's so smooth i think when you're thinking about it you're thinking oh it's so high but actually when
19:26you're here it's it's a sight to behold isn't it and then when you go up in the cable car it sort of
19:32peaks at the top and then goes down but it's about a three or four minute ride i mean it was great it
19:36was unbelievable and then you've got the castle over there so we haven't talked too much about the
19:40the castle everything i'm really glad we did that i'm really glad we did that i'm glad you did it too
19:47ladies
19:59we're halfway through our final day of the cruise and we're anchored up in brest in france where our
20:04fun-loving travelers have been doing a spot of sightseeing this morning best friends kerry and
20:10julie have spent the morning with tour guide caroline learning all about brest's oldest streets this
20:16tree that was saved by the woman lives there it's always a strong woman who wins the day whilst mother
20:22and daughter duo shin and sarah have been discovering it's not just the square footage of the botanical
20:27gardens that's huge because i said this is as big as me having been pointed in the right direction by their
20:33guide loik shin and sarah have located a little crepery on site very handy god absolutely shattered
20:40now are you you're not good i'm older than you i know plenty of steps there yeah i can't wait to
20:46get something to eat and drink now yeah this place looks really cute yeah well let's see let's see what
20:51it offers it'll be great great i think it's always good to try something traditional you know from
21:03the origin of where it is it was nice breast is known for its excellent crepes you can get sweet
21:09ones savory ones even ones with an egg on top i wonder what shin and sarah are going to go for oh
21:15oh
21:25so we asked for crepe banana chocolate and caramel sauce please i said and he understood me she didn't say
21:33like that she said can i have a banana chocolate and crepe please with um caramel caramel as well don't you
21:41mean we shin yeah shall we pay you wait you have to do it first quick yeah we can see them being
21:50made yeah they're good wow look at them they look amazing they're very big you are after all them
21:55steps i think so it's quite a skill isn't it to be able to make it on the traditional crepe
22:01flip it over no it's not the same in a frying pan though is it they're using something else
22:06oh i can't do that not for me that must be the caramel sauce okay okay two chocolate yeah with
22:18banana with banana with banana yeah we see remember you're in france now shin
22:28so the cafe place itself it was really busy which is always a good sign because that means it's very
22:33popular and so we decided to just sort of sit outside away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy
22:38our traditional clip and then chocolate oh i'm gonna see wow they're huge aren't they they are massive
22:48shall we try a bit hmm very authentic french taste doesn't it they are nice so i think we've got a bit of
22:56time to kill you know before the dinner when we get back on the ship oh yeah what we're gonna do see if there's
23:02any little games we can play some activities maybe do you want to yeah let's have a go maybe we'll let
23:08this settle a bit first though it's gonna literally be the last dinner tonight well looking forward to
23:15looking all glamorous sparkly well it'll be my first one so we'll have to see how it goes what time is it
23:22now oh yeah we better better make them move go catch the ship no my french ain't good enough to
23:30get us out of there either you could say oula navire s'il vous plaît
23:37kerry and julie are ending their whistle stop tour of brest by visiting les etaliers de capucins the
23:44largest covered public square in europe to experience a little musical send-off
23:51so this is r1 he's gonna teach us how to play bombard bombard bombard bombard yeah okay we had a
24:00a musical instrument lesson with an instrument that neither of us had ever come across before
24:04everything in britain is different okay and so is our music okay sounds a little bit familiar because
24:10it sounds like celtic music yeah one is like the chief of a baguette baguette it's like a scottish
24:17bagpipe band you know with the drum and everything and he's the chief so we are very lucky today we
24:22are very lucky to have everyone here oh my goodness that looks uh complicated whoa wow this already looks
24:29way beyond my grasp i play uh a tune yeah please shall we move back it might be advisable kerry
24:40so you had to really purse your lips on the reed
25:08and then sort of i can't do this without blowing a raspberry kind of blow a raspberry down yeah
25:20nothing's coming out julie was just going redder and redder but then again i forget to breathe yeah
25:25i think you need to breathe and blow it at the same time sort of i did think she might explode at
25:30one point but she's still here to tell the tale so it's all good not lazy okay okay like this
25:39very good whoa
25:42she's doing mullikin tire i mean kerry did do better than me at this
25:49yeah i was quite attached to my eardrums that's good but we did it yeah we did do it
25:54we did do it but he was great i mean he played a lovely tune with it it really was it's quite amazing
26:00really
26:13i'm not sure the people in the back heard you there maybe we can say goodbye in breton yeah
26:18you and i have tried more new things in that past week than we have ever tried with anyone all out of
26:31puff after their fun day in brest it's time for these two to head back to the ship
26:39our yorkshire travellers shin and sarah are back on board and have decided to take part in one of the
26:44ship's activities a game of coits so it's pretty simple game zone this and it's very easy to play
26:51can you shed more light on it for us ladies no idea what quite stuff i thought it was something you
26:56put on when you go outside get your coin now all you're going to do is you're going to have four
27:01little rope circles like what sam has got in his hand he's going to throw and trying to get it on to
27:06our little contraption over there and hopefully you're going to be better than sam is oh there we go
27:12he's managed to score and he's got the jackpot you know what i take back everything i said sam
27:18i wasn't really sure what to expect to be honest i knew it involved throwing but i wasn't sure like
27:23how the point system worked now this one's five that's 10 15 20 and if you get it in the middle
27:29like sam did on the last one that's 25 points with the point system explained shin is out first shin
27:36oh a little bit a little bit further oh oh good effort shin sarah you're up next come on sarah get one
27:50better luck on your next round ladies and janet yeah
27:53oh maybe not janet scoring 40 oh janet knows her coins she's definitely played it before second round
28:09one for the team oh i tell you what that is five points the only way is up i think watch out here
28:22comes janet yeah i wouldn't have expected anything less janet shin and sarah have some competition here
28:30i think you're more competitive than me so you were more confident i think than you're laying on after i
28:37limbered up a bit it probably should have done a stretch class before this trust shin to bring a
28:43bit of flair to quits there we go and she scores yay she's on a roll nearly oh spoke too soon
28:55hang on when i limbered up i got a good score yeah that was the technique the limbering that helped
29:00score didn't it 20 points i think sarah's getting the hang of this too 40 points there sarah shin
29:18come on shin find your balance she's the shape don't worry last one ah the scores are in finishing
29:29joint last place we have yvonne and shin on 20 points my throwing skills aren't too bad you came last
29:36yeah i know sarah finished on 45 points in second i'm actually surprised that i came second as we all know
29:44sports are not my forte i have other skills and that's fine which does mean that janet with 60
29:49points has won well done janet the quits queen i did enjoy uh coits i believe it is
29:59have you ever played coits before never played it before i did enjoy it though first time coitus now
30:04that shin and sarah have exercised their arms and their aim let's look back to earlier in the week
30:10when kerry organized a photo shoot for the two of them to celebrate their time away together and
30:15julie's birthday what have you got there now it's time to look at the snaps i went to reception and
30:25picked them up the photography desk oh my god so we've got a few oh let's have a look quickly before
30:29we get ready older now i think wasn't it the photos were great that he did and he loved doing it yeah
30:35oh look there we are i've got you can see we've been winds by no you can look at these it was so windy
30:40that day i love this he really did an amazing job of the photographs but we've got hair all over the
30:49place yeah it was funny oh look two classy birds oh so what room was that in was that outside that was
30:57outside oh that is lovely that's nice i like that as well isn't it oh that's lovely really beautiful
31:04that was well worth doing that i think it's time to get our glad roads on yeah let's do it time to
31:11get the sparkles on and look fabulous darlings shin and sarah are wasting no time getting spruced up for
31:17their final evening on the ship and it's going to be a fancy one party time yeah i'm very excited
31:25actually i've never been to a formal evening on a ship so you can have this one which is lovely
31:31little green number oh a lovely little green number i do help out my mum with fashion i help you out
31:38because you don't have the best sense of style in the nicest way possible sarah loves fashion and i don't
31:45care i think this one preferably over this one it's up to you it's your choice are people dressing to
31:50the nines or have people just like gone sort of like half casual or have they really gone for it
31:55but there's some very interesting outfits tonight sparkly or gold now gold goes better actually but
32:03the issue is we've got complete sparkle on you're gonna have to go silver i'm expecting everybody to
32:10be dressed up everybody have enjoying themselves and having a really good time three two one go
32:16she's enjoyed cruise life definitely definitely although i think she's realized she eat too much
32:26i hope like everything fits as well after eating all this food on the cruise
32:29might be a bit tired so we might need a backup outfit don't worry sarah i'm sure you'll look gorgeous
32:35meanwhile kerry and julia doing final touches oh thank you it's our final night on board and tonight

40:20the one of the towers and i think there was 173 steps to get up there mom had to take a rest a few
40:27time but there's nothing wrong with that it was worth sitting in it's not a huge tower but it's
40:33like big enough yeah it's surprising once you get up there you can literally see like 360 degree views
40:39yeah it's beautiful there's one event all four of our ladies will experience and that's the grand
40:44finale of this evening's dinner a dessert parade made famous in the 1950s that's become a bit of a
40:50friendship tradition it's baked alaska time i knew there was something going on because obviously
41:08there was all these rumors about oh wait till the end wait till the end blah blah blah what is going on
41:13here i was not expecting like trays on trays on trees of all these baked alaskas
41:29and it was an actual night that i could take my bib off and you could yeah absolutely you use that
41:35bib for its proper words waving it around at the waiters it was wonderful you get a chance to
41:47celebrate the waiters the chefs the bakers all of those people you don't see because they're all
41:52hidden behind the galley doors to actually just see it i just didn't realize how extraordinary it was

42:44nines i wonder what our fun-loving cruisers thought of their final day of the cruise i think it's very
