00:06an evening snack when she was allegedly dragged and raped inside the hospital premises.
00:10The survivor, a second-year medical student from Jaleshwar in Urusha,
00:14was studying at a private college in Durgaapur, West Bengal.
00:17On the evening of October 10, just as she reached the college gate,
00:20the young student was allegedly dragged to a quiet spot behind the hospital,
00:24where she was attacked.
00:25The asylum reportedly took her mobile and demanded Rs. 3,000 before fleeing.
00:30She was admitted to a hospital for a medical examination,
00:32and police have begun questioning college staff as well as the friend who accompanied her.
00:37The incident has triggered a political slugfest.
00:39BJP leaders criticise the Mamata Banerjee government,
00:42citing repeated failures in law and order and urging a strict investigation.
00:46Trinamal Congress ministers, in turn, accused the opposition of politicising the tragedy,
00:50pointing to similar crimes in other states, and defended the ongoing police inquiry.
00:55The case comes amid heightened scrutiny of crimes against women in West Bengal
00:59following the 2024 RG Coyne Medical College murder
01:02and several other recent incidents on college campuses.
01:05Police have not yet released an official statement,
01:07but investigations are reportedly underway from multiple angles
01:10to establish the sequence of events.
