00:00Does your head hurt? Where does your head hurt?
00:04From the back of your head.
00:07This is my daughter, Gracelyn, and this is her story.
00:10This mom wouldn't stop until her daughter had answers.
00:14She had been dealing with headaches for a month and a half.
00:17We had constantly been taking her to a pediatrician,
00:20but they kept saying that there was nothing wrong with her.
00:23For a month and a half, my daughter has acted like this.
00:26She was very uncomfortable.
00:28Everyone around her could tell that something was wrong.
00:31I finally decided to bring her to the ER
00:33and demand that they give her a CT scan
00:35to figure out why she's having headaches.
00:38When the results came back,
00:40they found two cystic lesions on her brain.
00:43We were immediately transferred to a children's hospital.
00:46Although I was very scared, look at how brave my mom was.
00:50Every parent's worst nightmare
00:51is discovering your child needs medical attention.
00:54We were immediately transferred to a bigger hospital
00:56an hour and a half away.
00:58When the MRI came and it showed that it was a brain tumor
01:01and not cystic lesions,
01:04I prayed for a sign that we would have a successful surgery.
01:07On the morning of her surgery,
01:09the fire alarm was going off.
01:11I took that as my sign.
01:13When the doctor started coming in,
01:14Gracelyn was so scared.
01:15She could tell something was happening,
01:17but she didn't know exactly what.
01:18They were so sweet and they let her die comfort her.
01:21He held her and her tablet
01:23and rolled with her all the way to the double doors
01:26where they would go back to surgery.
01:28After nine hours of surgery,
01:30she was finally rolled back into the room.
01:33She was completely sedated,
01:35but she was still fighting them.
01:37It can take up to a year to recover from brain surgery.
01:41After she was rolled in,
01:42it was time to take all the tubes out
01:44and wake her from sedation.
01:46We wanted to see how strong her coordination was
01:48and if she was able to breathe on her own.
01:53They did leave the drain in her head
01:55for an additional five days.
01:57She did really good, all things considered.
02:00A chest x-ray showed that she had
02:02leftover fluid in her lungs
02:03and unfortunately, she had spiked a fever.
02:06Thanksgiving morning,
02:07her doctor came in and told us
02:09her tumor was a grade two ependymoma,
02:11which is cancerous.
02:12He also said we were accepted into St. Jude
02:15and we would be leaving Monday morning.
02:17The family spent months in medical housing,
02:19supporting Gracelyn through her surgeries.
02:22Surgery day is here.
02:23We go and get her checked in
02:25and she walks back like a boss.
02:27She does her vital checks like a boss.
02:30There is less than 1% chance
02:32of someone developing a malignant tumor.
02:34We get back there and it's time to change.
02:36At this point, she did get side,
02:38but she powered through it.
02:39Her dad and I left to go get lunch
02:41when we got the call, she was in recovery.
02:43Thankfully, it was best case scenario.
02:46It took them 14 minutes to take the screw out
02:48and thankfully, we didn't have to stay as inpatient.
02:51We were released to go back to our room at St. Jude.
02:54After a year of surgeries,
02:56Gracelyn found light at the end
02:58of this long, enduring medical tunnel.
03:00We went to jail,
03:00in her house and family.
03:01We talked about not yetальных
03:02evidence for the flowers,
03:03but we were also wearing children.
03:03She was held in very often,
03:04going up to the room.
03:05listening to her room,
03:05and she raised her hand at that.
03:05I was able to say,
03:06can you see which is supposed to be
03:07waiting for them to try?
03:07She does.
03:07And since then,
03:08the room,
03:08when,
03:22look at me was supposed to be,
03:22and I went up to the door.
03:24The point in 24 hours.
03:24And in the back of the house,
03:25she was able to let them
03:26going up to just yet to go out here.
