00:00The 10th edition of the Dream City Biennale is bringing the Tunis Medina to life.
00:06Led by La Rue Association, the streets, houses and squares of the old city are transformed
00:13as artists and residents look to foster a dialogue between art and everyday life.
00:19Today, Dream City has become an essential platform that highlights creations led by women.
00:26It's essential for Dream City to give space to women.
00:30Indeed, without any stigmatization, we must open creative space for creation itself.
00:36There are so many extraordinary, precious women creators.
00:40The role of women in Tunisian society is in any case a dominant and very important one.
00:46And it continues to gain ground, fortunately.
00:50This vast woven sculpture by artist Sonia Kalel was created in collaboration with Tunisian weavers.
00:57It explores memory and movement, rootedness and reaching outward.
01:03We worked with a lot of the material because in nomadic weaving, the spinning of thread is very important,
01:11especially since we also worked with goat hair.
01:14So we compose with nature and it's a harsh material that carries a certain struggle in its handling.
01:21There's a whole relationship with the thread, we would hold it, walk and return.
01:28That too was meaningful in relation to the idea of displacement and rootedness.
01:36Another highlight of the festival is Aswat, which means Voices in Arabic.
01:41A solo choreography by Cyrine Douce.
01:46It's an immersion into the different dimensions of the feminine, between strength and vulnerability.
01:52I wanted to explore multiple dimensions of the feminine and multiple possible voices.
02:00Memorial voices, ancestral voices, voices that run through us as women, but also those that move around us.
02:15Dream City continues until October 19th in the Tunis Medina.
