Gaza ceasefire agreement has come into effect, Israeli military says

The Israeli military has begun withdrawing troops following a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The deal, brokered by the US and Egypt, includes releasing hostages and a plan for Gaza's future governance.

00:00A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect in Gaza on Friday, hours
00:05after Israel's cabinet ratified the deal to pause fighting and exchange the remaining
00:10hostages.
00:11Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the news in the early hours of Friday after
00:16convening with his cabinet, as well as U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
00:20We fought during these two years to achieve our war aims, and the central one of these
00:26war aims is to return the hostages, all of the hostages, the living and the dead.
00:32And we're about to achieve that goal.
00:35We couldn't have achieved it without the extraordinary help of President Trump and his team, Steve Witkoff
00:42and Jared Kushner.
00:44Here we are today because Hamas had to, they had to do this deal.
00:50The pressure was on them, they were backed up, and you've got the bigger army, you were making
00:56inroads, and that's what led to this deal.
00:59Tens of thousands of people gathered in Vaadi Gaza in central Gaza started walking north
01:04after the military's announcement.
01:06Palestinians reported that heavy shelling ceased after the ceasefire was announced.
01:10As part of the ceasefire, Israeli troops began to withdraw to agreed upon deployment lines,
01:38the military said.
01:42The announcement was met with widespread joy for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who, after
01:48two years of intense bombardment, are now seeing relief on the horizon.
