00:00Punjabi actor Varendar Singh Ghuman, widely known as the world's first vegetarian bodybuilder,
00:05has passed away at the age of 42.
00:07According to reports, Varendar suffered a heart attack and died in Amritsar, where he
00:11had gone for a minor operation for a bicep injury at the Fortas Hospital.
00:15It was supposed to be a short procedure, but fate had other plans.
00:18Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Varendar distinguished himself internationally as the world's first
00:23vegetarian professional bodybuilder.
00:25He made the nation proud by winning Mr India in 2009 and finishing runner-up at Mr Asia.
00:30His remarkable journey even caught the eye of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who chose him to represent
00:34his products in Asia back in 2013.
00:37Besides bodybuilding, Varendar also made his mark in the film industry.
00:41From Kabaddi once again in Punjabi cinema to his Hindi debut Roar Tigers of the Sundarbans,
00:46he carved a niche for himself in entertainment too.
00:48His later appearances include Marjava in 2019 and Tiger 3, where he played Shaqeel, a Pakistani
00:54prison guard opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
