Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly admitted for the first time that Russian air defense systems were to blame for downing an Azerbaijan Airlines jet in December 2024. Putin said the missiles malfunctioned while targeting a Ukrainian drone and exploded close to the plane, leading to its crash.
