Peyo, a Belgian Malinois, is the first dog in the French armed forces to be trained in drone guidance. Assigned to Air Parachute Commando No. 20, Peyo can independently "follow the drone using his ears and eyes", says Chief Sergeant Dorian, and reach a designated area without his handler, where he can search for explosives and weapons, or even intercept a suspect.
Transcript
00:00It's not facile.
00:30And on the other side of your nose.
00:37So Peyo will really follow the drone
00:40in serving his ears and his eyes.
00:43And after arriving on his zone,
00:45he will be able to work directly.
00:47So if there was a malfaiter,
00:49he will be able to intercept him.
00:51If I need to shoot him
00:53because we have a doubt about the presence of a trap,
00:56he will be able to do this directly.
00:59And all this, I'm not seeing myself,
01:01I'm not seeing myself at the end.
01:02And so it allows everyone
01:04and all operators to be safe during the mission.
01:09The difficulty on the method,
01:11it's the excitation
01:13and the fact of understanding
01:15that he will have to work
01:17after this guide.
01:19To understand that the drone
01:21is just a vector
01:23that will help him to move from A to B.
01:26but that,
01:27above all,
01:28to arrive on his job,
01:30he will have to get away from this drone
01:33to do his work on the basis.
01:36Can you explain how
01:38this is happening?
01:40The goal is also
01:42to secure the zone for the dog.
01:44First of all,
02:00I'll move to a conclusion.
02:02The drone is a high priority.
02:04Now,
02:06the drone is aową вд bzw.
