00:00Oh
00:30Hey everyone, Adam here from System Era.
00:51I'm a creative director at the studio, and these days I also feel a lot like Astroneer's dad.
00:56You know, I haven't worked in that game actively for years now, but I can't help but feel so incredibly proud of what the game and the team has done all these years later.
01:04You know, we launched in Early Access in 2016, and nearly 10 years later, we still produce incredible free content and DLC for the game, some of which you can actually look forward to later this year.
01:14But I'm not here today to talk to you about Astroneer.
01:16I'm actually talking to you about the next video game from System Era, one that we announced a few months ago, but we are finally today revealing some gameplay with you all.
01:23With this game, I didn't want to just make a sequel to Astroneer.
01:26This is not Astroneer 2.
01:27This is a game that really represents the kind of online sandbox games I want System Era to be known for, so much so that it is a whole new genre and it's a whole new title.
01:37And that game is Starseeker Astroneer Expeditions.
01:40In this game, you and every single person that plays the game are Astroneers within the Frontier Force, this elite group of crazy space explorers that crew the ESS Starseeker.
01:51The ESS Starseeker is ExoDynamic's most technologically advanced vessel within its entire fleet.
01:56It is a space station purpose-built for discovering new star systems and jumping to them so that its crew can embark on missions of exploration and discovery along the way.
02:05Obviously, I'm really excited about this game.
02:06I could do this all day where I look down the camera and we have this conversation and I'm sharing stuff with you that I think is really cool about this game.
02:13But I think the best thing that we can do where I just shut up now and we show you some gameplay footage.
02:18And so today we are so proud to be showing you our gameplay reveal so that you can understand what it means to embark on an expedition as the Frontier Force.
02:26So without further ado, here's your first gameplay reveal of Starseeker Astroneer Expeditions.
02:33Starseeker is a brand new game set in the Astroneer universe focused on planetary exploration and chaotic fun with friends.
02:40Players are recruits aboard a cutting-edge experimental space station called the ESS Starseeker.
02:47Gather into squads of up to four or go solo when you deploy on expeditions,
02:51which are timed adventures that unleash eager Astroneers upon alien planets brimming with danger, opportunity, and wild good times.
02:59Step one of every expedition is to prepare.
03:02Here, you will shop for, craft, and train items to plan unique loadouts.
03:07Or if you just want to mess around, cram your backpack filled with party poppers and beach balls.
03:11Totally up to you.
03:13Next comes step two.
03:15Time to deploy.
03:16The clock starts ticking the second you step out of your landing shuttle.
03:20On every expedition, you only have a limited amount of oxygen and will need to get back to the Starseeker before it runs out.
03:26Planets burst with extraterrestrial thrills like bizarro creatures, fun tasks and challenges, and of course, space loot.
03:33Dash, swim, and glide your way into trouble, grab whatever you can, and then use your arsenal of sci-fi tools to race back home before your time is up.
03:44Finally, every expedition ends with step three, the return.
03:48After your squad gets back to the station alive, catch your breath and bask in your team's victory.
03:53The Starseeker may be on a critical life-or-death mission, but to the crew, it's just one big party bus in deep space, and we're all along for the joyride.
04:00Thanks, Joe.
04:03Let's take a closer look at where all the action happens in Starseeker, on the planet.
04:09Welcome to Tefra, the first planet that players will visit as the crew of the ESS Starseeker.
04:16Tefra is a mysterious and unexplored planet in the depths of frontier space.
04:20Astroneers will need to brave tangled jungles and sprawling oceans to uncover its secrets.
04:26Planets in Starseeker are as dangerous as they are beautiful.
04:29The more expeditions you embark on, the better you'll get at navigating your surroundings.
04:33And because the world is handcrafted, you can always return to the breathtaking vistas you've encountered,
04:38or show your friend the hidden cache you found tucked away in a deep cavern.
04:43As the crew works together over time, squads will be able to investigate uncharted areas of the planet when new landing zones unlock.
04:50New areas bring with them more challenges.
04:52We're working together with other squads to wrangle ferocious creatures or complete time-sensitive field missions can save the day.
05:00Starseeker starts on Tefra.
05:02But that's just the first destination the crew explores in the system.
05:06As more information about the Frontier Force's secret mission is revealed,
05:10the space station will travel to other planets and systems deeper in frontier space.
05:15Thank you, Veronica.
05:17Now, let's get on with an actual expedition.
05:20A few moments ago, after some printing and planning on the station,
05:23my squad and I landed on Tefra with an important mission given to us by the Frontier Force.
05:29The objective?
05:29To repair some equipment that's crucial for the Starseeker science team.
05:33Now, our fearless leaders leave out all the necessary details,
05:36but they do direct us to feel the Force and figure it out, so that's what we're going to do.
05:40Recruits aboard the Starseeker are equipped with state-of-the-art gear.
05:45Every Astroneer standard loadout includes the ExoTool, which is used to deform terrain.
05:50But expert explorers can augment their tool with nozzles,
05:53which are specialized attachments that interact with the world with all kinds of unique ways.
05:58There are nozzles that shoot water, that hurl terrain,
06:01even ones that allow you to launch yourself or even creatures in the world.
06:04On this mission, we realize that the local fauna has gooped up the science team's electronics,
06:11and we need to clean up the mess.
06:13We use the water nozzle and some local fruit to de-goop the hardware and put the creatures to bed.
06:18Once the station is back online, we need to establish a signal to the Starseeker,
06:22so we'll be placing a Starseeker comms relay as high up on the planet as we can.
06:27Now, time is of the essence, but that doesn't stop us from checking a few carrotlings,
06:32checking out what's going on with some of the other squads,
06:34and creating some delightful chaos every step of the way.
06:39Instead of going on and on about how great the game is,
06:41let's just enjoy a few minutes of uninterrupted gameplay from an expedition.
07:02After all, let's jump in.
07:25After all, let's go over the middle.
07:27I can't.
07:30I'm a fat guy.
07:33I'm a fat guy.
07:38My cat is a fat guy.
07:45I'm a fat guy.
07:47I'm a fat guy.
07:50I'm a fat guy.
07:53Let's go.
08:23Oh
08:53Oh
09:23Oh
09:53Oh
10:23Oh
10:53Oh
10:55Oh
11:01Oh
11:05Oh
11:07Oh
11:16Oh
11:23Let's go.
11:53Let's go.
12:23I don't know.
12:53I don't know.
13:23I don't know.
13:25I don't know.
13:27I don't know.
13:29Hey, welcome back.
13:42Hopefully after that gameplay reveal, you're starting to get a really good sense of the
13:46core gameplay from Starseeker Astroneer Expeditions.
13:49Before we go on to the next segment, though, I wanted to take a minute to just kind of
13:52speak personally if that's okay.
13:53You know, I think as the creative director, one of the things that I set out to do was
13:58to really pay for the sense of, you know, call it optimistic futurism that I got from things
14:03like Star Trek when I was a kid and how that made me feel and the way that that was formative
14:07for me as a young person.
14:09And I want that out of video games and Starseeker is my biggest swing at trying to achieve that
14:13with its players.
14:13And so to that end, if this is the kind of game that you've been looking for, you know,
14:18one where when you log in, you're doing it on your own, you're doing it with friends,
14:21you're doing it with the community that you've been a part of, you feel as though you are
14:25contributing to something much larger than what's going on around you.
14:28And that you can really get a sense of what impact that has on other folks around you.
14:32And so I encourage you to join our discord, sign up for the beta and do what you can to
14:37share feedback with us.
14:39This is not a one and done video game from system era where we just drop it in 1.0 and
14:42then we move on to the next thing.
14:44We want to continuously develop this game with you and with your feedback, especially with
14:48people that are looking for an experience like this.
14:50It's also important to understand that even though we're actively working on starseeker,
14:54we still develop Astroneer at system era.
14:56And so if you're a fan of Astroneer, I encourage you to stick around to the next segment.
14:59I think you're really going to love what they're going to show you.
15:02And I just wanted to say, thank you so much for spending some time with me and hearing
15:05and seeing more about starseeker.
15:07And I truly cannot wait to tell you more about, you know, life aboard the space station.
15:11What does it mean to be part of the frontier force and get into like the nitty gritties
15:15and the behind the scenes stuff of what it takes to make a game like this.
15:18So until then, thank you so much.
15:19And I cannot wait to see you next time.
15:20Bye.
15:32Hey, everyone.
15:45I'm back and here to end the show today with some news about Astroneer Megatech.
15:50The upcoming update for our other game, Astroneer.
15:54Megatech is all about building massive megastructure projects to test your base building and automation
15:59skills. This paid DLC will be completely compatible with existing saves and will be released alongside
16:05a free update for all players.
16:08The free portion of the update will include new items, but will also give players a megastructure
16:12project that will allow them to automate interplanetary transportation.
16:17This is the intermodal transport module.
16:20Once built, it allows players to create complex systems to move resources throughout the solar system.
16:25Players can use existing automation tools like rails, sensors, and canisters to create unique
16:30bases and support megastructure construction in Megatech content.
16:35We cannot wait to share more details in the coming weeks about the free and paid portions of the
16:40Megatech DLC and update. Come join us on Discord to hear about details first.
16:45We'll see you in the next video.
16:48We'll be back on our live video and see you soon.
16:54We'll see you in the next video.
16:55We'll see you in the next video.
