The World Food Programme has issued an urgent alert to the international community regarding the imminent risk of famine in Haiti. Currently, 5.7 million people—over half the country’s population—are facing critical levels of food insecurity, with 2.1 million classified at emergency levels. Reports indicate that armed groups now control nearly 90% of the territory, obstructing access to food and pushing vulnerable families into famine conditions. Many Haitians have been forced to reduce their meals and rely on low-quality food, causing malnutrition rates to soar. The escalating violence has also displaced 1.3 million people, more than half of them children, further worsening the child malnutrition crisis.
