00:00Jeremiah, it's been an eventful week for you on the island.
00:05There is so much to get into, but I have to start with, of course, the top question of the hour.
00:10Why did you ask Nicole to spit in your face in that first challenge?
00:17You know, Nicole and I laughed so much on the beach afterwards.
00:22And I, so what happened was when I went into the mud, I dove in, I accidentally opened my eyes underwater as if like I was swimming so I could see and I just saw all brown.
00:34And then when we finished the challenge, I felt like the mud was everywhere, the back of my eyes.
00:39And so I could hardly see.
00:42I saw Nicole.
00:43I love Nicole.
00:44So I said, Nicole, can you please spit in my eye?
00:47And so she was trying to spit in my eye and she's like, I don't have any saliva.
00:52And I said, get the water.
00:54So she got the water.
00:55I'm opening my eyes and she's spinning.
00:58I needed a high pressure kind of like squirt to get in the back of my eyes.
01:02And when she did it, I was like, thank you.
01:04And I could see.
01:05And so we actually were watching that premiere in Boston together.
01:09And like we have been talking about this moment and like we didn't know.
01:12And when we saw it together, like we died.
01:18So, yeah.
01:19Well, let's go from that to talking about perhaps a blind side for you here.
01:24Let's talk about your departure because from our perspective, it would make sense that you
01:28might be surprised, A, that Alex plays his idol and B, that Sophie ends up joining him
01:34to vote you out.
01:35But what was your reaction in the moment?
01:36I mean, from what it's worth, from what we saw, you seem to be able to compartmentalize
01:41this relatively well, wishing them well on the way out.
01:44But how surprised were you with everything that went down?
01:47Yeah, no, I wasn't surprised.
01:48I felt there was a moment when Sophie had asked me what were Alex and I talking about
01:53when we were like on our one-on-one, when she was being a menace behind us in the bushes.
01:57But when she asked me that question, I kind of took a step back and I'm like, she flipped
02:02on me.
02:03And then I really thought about, you know, playing my shot in the dark.
02:06And the way that I was thinking was, Sophie was going to vote for me, I was going to vote
02:11for Alex, and Alex was going to vote for Sophie.
02:14And so in my, the only shock that I was shocked about was like Alex, like playing his idol
02:19because he literally was dangling that, that idol and, and like my face and trying to use
02:25it as like a power, you know, control thing for me to give him information, which anybody
02:29would do that.
02:30I just didn't think that he was going to play his idol.
02:33I mean, you obviously laid a lot of the groundwork to be able to try to get him to do that.
02:39I mean, how successful do you feel like you were?
02:41Do you think there was anything you could have done in retrospect or on Sophie's side
02:45to really make him feel that comfortable or was he always going to play it no matter what?
02:50You know what?
02:50I think Alex is a player.
02:52We're all players.
02:53I think when there's nowhere to hide and you can't feel confident, Alex knew that Sophie
02:58and I were working together for a really long time.
03:01Um, and so I just thought that he would save his idol, but it like, it makes sense why
03:08he played his idol.
03:09He didn't need to.
03:10It also shows you too, like he didn't know if Sophie was telling him the truth or not,
03:16because if he felt confident, then he wouldn't have played his idol.
03:19I think it was just, there were so many unknowns.
03:22Well, let's talk about unknown, at least in your book, in the form of Sophie, someone that
03:26you said many times was your number one.
03:28Talk to me about this quick connection you made and what made you, I mean, I guess, did
03:33you have any sense that, you know, she was also seeking out other people in the form
03:38of Jake while you were also so tightly bonded with her?
03:41Yeah.
03:41Yeah.
03:42No, no, no, no, no, no.
03:42I, from the minute that I saw Sophie, she was like a player and I could tell that she was
03:47a player.
03:47She would play a way that I would never play survivor.
03:50And I needed to, so I wanted to work with somebody who was like that strong female.
03:55I love female survivor players.
03:58And so we actually had a conversation about like Jake and like, it was sort of like, I
04:02told her and she probably already knew this.
04:04I can't take credit for it.
04:05I'm like, spend as much time with Jake.
04:07You can get control of him.
04:08You can get him like wrapped around your finger.
04:10Like he would sacrifice his game for Sophie.
04:12That's how I felt.
04:13So when I saw them spending so much time together, I knew that it was game for Sophie and then
04:18I, but I don't like, and so that I was fine by that.
04:22Um, and then I, when we got onto the beach, I took a step back and I watched like everybody
04:29like talking to who.
04:30And so I saw Nicole talking to Jake and like, that was just something that I saw.
04:36And then Annie was like doff doing her own thing.
04:38She was building her shelter.
04:39She did build that shelter by herself.
04:41We didn't build that.
04:43But Sophie was the only person that we kind of had, you know, a strategic conversation.
04:49And then Jake had come to me and like, we discussed like doing a four.
04:54And so I was locked in at that point, but Annie and Nicole never approached me or talked strategy
04:58with me.
04:59I mean, talk to me more about your relationship with Jake.
05:02Cause we see you two immediately find out that you're the two Canadians on the season.
05:07We see you have a conversation later on in the premiere where it's like, Hey, who would
05:10have thought that we would have worked together?
05:12What was your one-on-one relationship with him?
05:15So it was funny because Sophie was, was my like number one, but I kept getting all of
05:22the information from Jake and Jake would tell me X to do like X, Y, and Z.
05:26So I went to Sophie.
05:27I'm like, Sophie, why is Jake telling me everything?
05:29Like if you are my like number one, Jake, but Jake is keeping me in the loop on everything.
05:34And so my relationship was with Jake was like, I did trust him.
05:39I could, the amazing thing was, is when we were voting out like Nicole, I could see how
05:46he was like working and like his words and acting around her.
05:49And then when I saw him acting a certain way with Annie, I knew his pattern.
05:55And so I was, I was able to read Jake very well because he did wear his heart on his sleeves.
06:01Well, let's talk about a heart-wrenching moment.
06:03When, you know, you are at camp, you find out this smattering of details about what happened
06:09to him by the short, it culminates in this really intense situation where he's taken away.
06:13I mean, give me your perspective on it, you know, cause you're trying to figure things
06:17out on the fly.
06:18You have Alex tell you after the fact like, oh yeah, by the way, I checked that book.
06:21That snake's highly venomous.
06:23He could be dead right now.
06:25You know what?
06:26I think as you're a player or, you know, personal, like a personal connection, a player,
06:32your enemy, when you're playing survivor, as a contestant, you just want contestants to
06:36be safe and be able to like live their dream.
06:39You don't wish ill upon somebody.
06:40Well, at least I don't.
06:42And even though we were working together, even though he's a competitor, like getting bit
06:46by a snake is just like worst case scenario.
06:48And it's kind of like the luck of the draw.
06:51It's like getting hit by light, struck by lightning.
06:53So it's like, you don't wish that upon somebody.
06:56I don't think that, I don't think it registered to me that he like wasn't coming back.
07:01Like I try to be like a really positive person.
07:04And so I just thought that he got bit by the snake and then he was going to come back because
07:08they asked us to grab like his backpack to go to the challenge.
07:11And so we were just kind of like waiting around and like Sophie and Alex, like we just didn't
07:17know.
07:17I think when Alex was like, it was kind of like a poisonous snake.
07:21And then Sophie's like, how is he going to be able to like walk on his foot?
07:23I'm like, those are valid points.
07:25But like, yeah, it's so unfortunate.
07:27If Jake had stuck around and let's say Kella does go back to tribal council, this was a
07:33really interesting situation.
07:34This was the core for we saw a moment last episode where you had said, like, I was the
07:39last to find out about this idol.
07:40I know where I'm sitting.
07:41What do you think was going to happen if the core for went to tribal council?
07:46Do you think it would have been an easy three one against you?
07:49Oh, so and it's so hard to play that game because there's so many factors involved.
07:54And so I felt as though Sophie did not like the relationship that Alex and Jake had and
08:01Jake and Sophie really did want like Jake as her number one, because I know Sophie is
08:06a player and she can like use her words really well.
08:09And because I knew that she had Jake wrapped around her finger, part of me strongly thinks
08:14that she would have been able to convince Alex to vote him out.
08:19She was able to convince Jake to vote Alex out.
08:22Um, and so that's sort of like where my, my, where my mind was at.
08:27So you get the formal confirmation that Jake isn't coming back and then you have to run
08:32this challenge.
08:33And on the one hand, you received these very inspirational words from Jake of like, take
08:37it home.
08:38But I have to imagine that there, there has been a good amount of just like devastation
08:44and emotional clouding over the course of that challenge for you, let alone when the
08:48puzzle hits.
08:48So what was sort of like your own emotional headspace as you're trying to get through this
08:52challenge right after receiving this news?
08:55You know what?
08:55I think after receiving this news, it was just kind of like everything just like kept going
09:00wrong for us.
09:02Um, and it was just kind of like, at that point I felt like I was in a coma, but I was like
09:07sleepwalking.
09:08And it was like so hot out, but we're all competitors and it's just like, you got to
09:15kind of like, when you're playing the game, you got to like put all of these thoughts and
09:19just execute and perform.
09:21And like, I don't know.
09:23Yeah.
09:23It's one of those things that you just have to do.
09:25Um, obviously like during, there's so much adrenaline going, we're all competitors.
09:30There's just so much that's happening.
09:31We also have the fear of like losing again and having to go for tribal.
09:35So I'm going to tribal and voting somebody else out.
09:38So there are so many feelings that I was going through.
09:40Um, fortunately you were just right at the swap.
09:44As Jeff said, you weren't able to make it onto that lifeboat, but I'm curious if you had
09:49survived this vote and you had made it to a drop your buffs moment, who from the other
09:53two tribes were you looking to possibly work with?
09:57Either ones you were, you know, eyeing in the preseason or stuff that you were picking
10:00up through just interacting with other people.
10:02Yeah.
10:02So I think I would have stayed loyal to Sophie.
10:06Um, and Christina, she's mother, she's like iconic.
10:10And so Christina is just somebody that like I connected like with emotionally, even though
10:15we didn't say any words together, uh, to, we didn't even talk to each other.
10:19So like Christina, I feel like I would have like bonded with her during pregame.
10:25Like I was trying to make eye contact with like Nate, but like, who's giving me nothing,
10:28but I felt like there was something with Nate.
10:31Um, and so yeah, Christina was just somebody who I wanted to work with and Nate.
10:35And then I probably would have stuck with Sophie.
10:37So you told me before the game started that with one exception, you told everyone in your
10:43life that you had climbed Mount Everest instead of going to play a survivor.
10:47So once the news got out there, what has sort of been the reaction from your inner circle,
10:53especially considering that, as you mentioned on the show, you were not really an outdoorsy
10:57person three days in, you're eating worms.
11:01I can say that my friends were shocked that I did survivor because like, I am like, I told
11:08you, like I told like on the show that like, I'm most likely not to go on survivor.
11:12I hate the sun.
11:14I hate the heat.
11:15I hate the ocean.
11:16I hate the sand.
11:17And so for me to actually go and do survivor, they were just kind of like, they knew I loved
11:22the show.
11:23They knew that I'd been a fan for 24 years.
11:25They hear me talk about it, but it was just one of those things that they like never would
11:29have guessed in like a million years.
11:31Um, and then there were kind of like, why didn't we ever question that you were like
11:34climbing base camp Mount Everest?
11:36Cause I didn't have like any details.
11:38So I'm actually going to like Nepal and Bhutan and Bangladesh next month.
11:43And like, I was telling all my friends and I had to send them my itinerary and my ticket
11:47because I was going to say this, this isn't just a cover for you going on the challenge.
11:50Is it?
11:51You got it.
11:52Yeah.
11:53Well, last thing I want to ask, speaking of your family, your dad gave you the very salient
11:57advice to talk to a tree.
11:59If you need to talk to anybody, did you do that?
12:02Did you end up talking to any of the trees around you during your week long stay at Kella?
12:06You know, I was not talking to the trees.
12:11I might've been talking to the worms when I was eating them.
12:14So, well, this was a, unlike the worms, a fantastic taste of everything you brought to
12:21the table, Jeremiah.
12:22I know obviously this was not an ideal set of circumstances to say the least, but the
12:26fact of the matter is, is that you seem to persevere through everything through some
12:30incredibly uncomfortable situations with that infectious laugh, with that bubbliness, with
12:35the energy of the suns that were, you know, emblazoned across your shirt that we know and
12:40love.
12:40And I think that speaks a lot to who you are.
12:43And I'm sure, you know, you walk away from this with even more admiration for what you
12:47are able to pull off.
12:48You summited a very different type of peak on Survivor.
12:52And even if you didn't reach the highest point, you still hit a very good elevation considering
12:55all the stuff you went through.
12:56And I met some really great people and it was like literally just a dream come true
13:02and like so honored to be part of the cast.
13:04Well, I'm so honored to get the chance to talk with you as per usual.
13:07Always a great time, but I will let you get to everything else going on.
13:12All the best to you and your family.
13:14And thank you so much again, Jeremiah.
13:15This is fantastic.
13:16Thank you, Mr. Leo.
13:18See ya.
13:18Have a good one, Mr. Horace.
13:20Take care.
13:21Bye-bye.
13:21Bye-bye.
13:21Bye-bye.
13:22Bye-bye.
13:22Bye-bye.
13:23Bye-bye.
13:24Bye-bye.
13:25Bye-bye.
