Malaysia is strengthening its freight forwarding and logistics network to ensure a robust supply chain, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Speaking at the launch of Tailwind Shipping Lines GmbH & Co KG’s intra-Asia regional hub at Northport on Thursday (Oct 9), Loke said the government aims to build an integrated logistics ecosystem to support industry growth.

He added that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will enhance regional connectivity across Asia by sea and rail within the next two to three years.

00:00Yeah, tailwind!
00:03Firstly, I will say that congrats for choosing the right location
00:08because Malaysia, especially Port Klang,
00:15is one of the most strategic port in this part of the world.
00:19We are at the center of Strait of Malacca,
00:22not too north, neither not too south.
00:25You don't have to go too south, just come to Port Klang.
00:28That is the right location in Strait of Malacca.
00:31I'm sure you know what I mean.
00:36And when you come to Port Klang, you are not just coming to Malaysia.
00:40You are basically connecting between Europe and Asia
00:45via sea and via land.
00:48Because here in Port Klang, we are connecting through intermodal,
00:53especially trail through a railway network.
00:55I'm sure when you come into the port,
00:57you can see there is a railway network connecting both North Port and West Port,
01:02and of course to our main line in the peninsula.
01:05But more than this, we are building another important railway network
01:11called the East Coast Rail Link,
01:13where in two to three years time, you will have a double track along this port corridor.
01:20And that will connect between this port and the eastern part of the country,
01:26the East Coast part of the peninsula,
01:28linking to Kuantan and the East Coast of the peninsula Malaysia.
01:32And more importantly, we want to link up all this railway network,
01:36not only within Malaysia, but linking all the way to Thailand.
01:40In fact, today we already have a real link with Thailand.
01:43Why Thailand?
01:44Because the moment we link to Thailand,
01:46then we can link to the entire Asia continent.
01:51And from Thailand, going off north, you will go to Laos.
01:55And from Laos, you can go all the way to China.
01:59So that is what we envision as the Pan-Asian River Network.
02:05That means when you come to Port Klang,
02:07or you have a box or container coming from Europe,
02:11reach Port Klang, you can basically reach any part of Asia.
02:16Or vice versa.
02:17If you have a box or container from China,
02:20you do not have to transport it from the ports in China.
02:27You can transport it by rail, come all the way to North Port.
02:31From Port Klang, you can go to Europe by ship.
02:34That is the vision that we hope that we can realize in the near future.
02:38Because we all know that right now,
02:40the world is impacted by a lot of disruption.
02:45Especially in many parts of the world,
02:47you do not know when disruption will happen.
02:50Supply chain residence is the key word right now to your customers.
02:54So you do not have to worry whatever disruption happened in South China Sea.
02:58That is another option that you can think about
03:01by having a hub at North Port in Port Klang.
03:05So I'd like to congratulate for making the right and strategic decision for your company.
03:11Secondly, of course the Malaysian government,
03:17at the Ministry of Transport level,
03:19we are doing our level best to simplify our processes,
03:23to make it easier for shipping lines to come in,
03:27to be more pro-business,
03:29and welcoming private sector,
03:32and welcoming the growth of businesses and trade.
03:35At the port level,
03:37we have implemented what we call the Malaysia Maritime Single Window.
03:43When your ships call to our ports,
03:45it is very simple and very easy.
03:47Everything can be done online.
03:49You do not have to submit any papers.
03:51Your port clearance,
03:52everything can be done just by a single window
03:56through our Malaysian Maritime Single Window application.
04:05No, no.
04:06That is,
04:08You
