00:00Hey everyone, Peter Rosas, designer on Warwick.
00:20And I'm Steve Bankert, also champ designer on the team.
00:22We are talking about everyone's favorite beastie boy today.
00:25He's here.
00:26Warwick. For those uninitiated, Warwick is...
00:29a man who was cruelly experimented on and, you know, he became a beast.
00:33And we want to make sure that, you know, the players get to feel like that ferocious beast monster character.
00:38When you think of Warwick, you know, you know that he's always trying to hunt the prey down.
00:42Right. So we wanted to make sure that we could, you know, put that feeling into the player's hands.
00:47What does it feel like to pursue prey and get them?
00:50And then the last thing we wanted to kind of get across to the player or let them perform
00:54is like breaking the rules of the game, right?
00:56Just uncaging them, like allowing them to feel feral.
01:00Right. We wanted players to always just be worried about what's going to happen.
01:04How is he going to get to you?
01:05Unpredictable movement.
01:06Where is he going to come from?
01:07The ground, the sky.
01:08Represent that agility.
01:09All those things.
01:10We wanted to make sure that they were like present in his kit.
01:13So the first attack that we're going to look at, it's called Claws of the Beast, which is Stand S1.
01:18What's really cool about this move, besides it being an overhead, is that when it hits the opponent,
01:23they go into kind of like a medium knockdown, which you can then use to set up, you know, follow-ups.
01:28If you hold S1, he could run for a pretty long time.
01:32During that run, he's projectile invulnerable.
01:35Right.
01:36Right?
01:37When he comes out of the run, he's no longer projectile invulnerable.
01:40So you have to time it.
01:41His next attack is called Rage of the Beast.
01:43It has a similar startup to Claws of the Beast, but, you know, instead at the end, he ends with a lunging headbutt.
01:50If you use Wrath of the Beast, then that gives you advantage, right?
01:54Or it lets you blow through their attack.
01:56Right.
01:57And then you talked about sort of like Warwick, he's coming at you like really horizontal,
02:00but you also added this nice vertical element to his game on the Crouch S1.
02:05So with his Crouch S1, sweetheart, he goes into Primal Leap.
02:08So that's a nice little flip here.
02:09And if you hold down an S1, he goes a lot further.
02:13And what's like really cool about this move is when it goes up, it does hit going up.
02:17Yeah.
02:18Yeah.
02:19And then when you use Primal Leap, you know, he has three different follow-ups.
02:23The first one being Pursuit, where he does a really quick diving bite.
02:27And what's really cool about that is that then that knocks up the opponent and it allows you to follow up.
02:32His next follow-up attack in the Primal Leap Suite is Terror.
02:37And the reason that you want to use Terror is that it ground bounces the opponent and hits in the front,
02:42but as you can see, kind of like hovers in the air ever so slightly.
02:46Yeah, the cross-up is nasty.
02:47And it crosses up, right?
02:48So it's kind of hard to block, which is really interesting.
02:51And then on top of that, it's plus on block.
02:54So if the opponent blocks it, you know, you could use this as a way to kind of keep up pressure.
02:59And then for those pesky opponents who are too defensive, you want to go ahead and use Snare, right?
03:05Just because that does a really good amount of damage.
03:09And it's Command Throw.
03:10It's a Command Throw, yes.
03:11Nice.
03:12So you can't block it.
03:13What's really cool is if you're using either Rage of the Beast or Claws of the Beast, right,
03:16you could cancel that by pressing up and getting a primal leap cancel out of that,
03:20thereby adding another layer to your offensive capabilities.
03:24Yeah.
03:25One of the things that's really cool about Warwick, you can get the opponent to the corner pretty nicely.
03:28And then once the opponent's in the corner, that's typically like a safer space you could be in, right?
03:33You can't really get crossed up in the corner.
03:35Right.
03:36You know, once again, the idea is no safe spaces against him.
03:38And to that point, you know, we added the primal climb where he gets to cling onto the corner.
03:44What's really cool about this is that he has access to those same kind of primal leap follow-ups,
03:50but they're like enhanced.
03:51They're much stronger from the corner, right?
03:53So when he does Pursuit and it hits, you know, the opponent is launched and they spin out,
03:58allowing for cooler combos.
04:00When you use the M attack, you know, you'll see it's a little bit different.
04:03Right.
04:04He's doing a new attack called Rend, which, you know, can ground bounce an airborne opponent,
04:09but against a standing opponent, it leaves them standing with a lot of hit stunts.
04:12And then, you know, he also has snare from there as well, just in case the opponent gets a little too,
04:18a little too defensive.
04:19Right, right. Too comfy.
04:20Exactly.
04:21And then the other awesome thing is, you know, once again, if you press the charged version of primal leap,
04:28he'll go into primal climb automatically.
04:30And that's cool too, just seeing the way that the, the way the offense sort of develops
04:35based on the opponent's tendencies.
04:37You can condition in certain ways if you want to.
04:39He really lets you play that sort of like offensive style.
04:42So his Heiress one is his attack called Feral Fang,
04:44where he kind of drops down on the opponent after jumping forward.
04:47You know, it's a series of like slashing bites.
04:49And what's really cool about this attack is, you know, it kind of sets up nicely
04:53for some of his grounded follow-ups.
04:56And his S2 is an attack called Savage Slashes, right?
05:01So pressing S2, he does two slash. Pressing S2 again, he'll do a third slash.
05:07And then pressing S2 one more time, he does a fourth slash, right?
05:11And what's really awesome about this is just, you know, it's on the player to kind of input
05:16those slashes as they see fit.
05:18They get to feel that they're actually tearing into the opponent.
05:22His next attack in his S2 suite is his Crouch S2 and it's called Bloodseeker.
05:26So this move is, you know, it functions kind of like you're like a really strong anti-air, right?
05:31This is the only kind of attack in the game that is pretty much anti-air invulnerable
05:36after the start of it, all the way through the attack.
05:38So, you know, when you think of like anti-air attacks in our games, we have our launchers,
05:43but these are only invulnerable for a few frames.
05:46Whereas Crouch S2 for Warwick is invulnerable like the whole time.
05:50Right.
05:51That's by design. That's part of Warwick's catch and release gameplay.
05:54You want to use S1 to pursue the opponent and use S2 to viciously maul them.
05:59But at the same time, once you do that, you knock them away.
06:02And then his aerial S2 is his spinning slicers.
06:06So what's really cool about that is that, you know, much like his ground savage slashes,
06:12he has like this additional slash that you get to input as the player.
06:17So you don't have to do it if you don't want to.
06:19But as you can see, like when you do it, you do knock the opponent away.
06:23So there is a trade-off.
06:25His last attack on his S2 suite is his forward in S2 called Feral Bite.
06:29And this is where he kind of like rears back and he picks the opponent and tosses them over his head.
06:34You know, what's really cool about this move is that you can like cancel the recovery of the move.
06:38This move is essential because, you know, you can do it after his air S1.
06:42You can do it after his sweep.
06:45You can do it after any like real opportunity where you knock the opponent down.
06:48That's an opportunity to use Feral Bite.
06:51There's three areas of like Warwick's design that we were trying to like really hit.
06:56So S1 is all about the pursuit, right? It's all about the hunt.
07:00So S2, it's all about the players getting to feel that like power transfer, you know?
07:05When you're like tearing up an opponent.
07:07And the last one was just uncaging the player, right?
07:10Like just allowing them to go fully Feral.
07:13As Warwick, you know, lands these S2 attacks, which, you know, you can see here,
07:18he's building up the Bloodless gauge.
07:20And then once it's full, you'll see him go into this Bloodless state.
07:26When you go into Bloodless, you know, Warwick just becomes that much more enhanced.
07:30His dashes speed up.
07:32Yeah, it's like across the board.
07:34Right?
07:35Speed, power, like he...
07:36Exactly, right. He gains two new specials.
07:38He's able to recover his great health.
07:41Whenever he does his S2 attacks, you can see it slowly...
07:44It's a good chunk.
07:45Yeah, it's slowly recovering.
07:47As I mentioned, you know, he has some new specials that get added, right?
07:50He loses Rage of the Beast, but instead gains a new move called Wrath of the Beast,
07:55where he does this crazy quick forward translating slash.
08:00And what's really cool about that is that move is still projectile invulnerable,
08:03and it causes a wall bounce. It does crazy damage.
08:06And then if you're close enough, it crosses up at the last.
08:09That's the nastiest part of all this.
08:11And that's where it gets, you know, that's where it gets really unpredictable, really scary.
08:15Then the other new attack that he gains is an upgraded version of Feral Bite.
08:19He gains a new attack called Feral Feast.
08:22Yeah.
08:23So check it out.
08:24And that's on the forward S2.
08:25Yeah, it's on forward S2.
08:26Oh, yeah. Yeah, the extra maul.
08:27Yeah, right.
08:28That's pretty sweet.
08:29And the other thing that's really cool about that is that, you know,
08:32when he connects that, when the opponent has recoverable life,
08:36he takes it all away.
08:37Oh, I straight up did not know about that.
08:40You're like, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, who okayed that?
08:43You don't lose the corner carry.
08:45So, you know.
08:46That's huge.
08:47The other really cool thing, and this is kind of like what really is at the heart of Bloodlust.
08:51You could cancel certain specials into certain specials.
08:54Yeah, it's good.
08:55What that means is that you could cancel his Bloodseeker into a Feral Fang.
08:59Yeah.
09:00You could cancel his Vich Slashes into a Wrath of the Beast.
09:04Another thing that he gains, an aerial version of Primal Leap that he doesn't have normally.
09:09So when you're attacking the opponent and they're blocking,
09:12you can use this as a way to kind of break their defense.
09:15Right.
09:16So we just wanted to make sure that, you know, players just had options
09:18and they were able to kind of utilize the combos the way they wanted.
09:21As you're doing these cancels, you're like spending,
09:23like the gauge depletes like fairly slowly on its own.
09:26But if you want to access the power, you got to spend some of it, it looks like.
09:30That was our way to ensure that this didn't become like grossly imbalanced.
09:33The way that we kind of did that was ensuring, you know, his new moves,
09:37they do take up some of that bloodless gauge.
09:40There is a cost to using them because they're so strong.
09:43Also, whenever you cancel, there is also a cost associated with that.
09:48He's giving up, you know, some of his bloodless gauge to break the rules of the game.
09:51And that's what's awesome.
09:52You know, the player gets to choose the routes to maximize the bloodless gauge.
09:56You want to talk about the supers?
09:57Yeah, let's go for it.
09:58His S1 super, you know, it falls in line with the idea of pursuing, right?
10:02It takes a leap back and then he flies towards the opponent, uses his agility,
10:09slashes them a ton of times and then brings them down to the ground, right?
10:12And that's our take on infinite duress.
10:14Yes, exactly.
10:15For like the 2x KO version.
10:16And what's really cool about this super too is that it's one of the few that can be done in the air.
10:20It also tracks.
10:22Oh yeah, I can jump and show that a lot too.
10:24Yeah.
10:25So it's going to like follow, it's going to predict where Jinx will be and it'll like land it and like hit her.
10:32You know, if you use it in double down, it's just like really easy for kind of Warwick to kind of capitalize
10:38because he could kind of reach from anywhere.
10:41So it makes him a pretty, pretty strong partner in that regard.
10:44That's cool.
10:45Oh yeah, so it's S2 super, no escape.
10:47What's really cool about that is, you know, he does a bunch of slashes.
10:50Kind of in line with that feeling of, you know, the S2 slash, the savage slashes, right?
10:55It's like the ultimate form of the S2.
10:57Exactly.
10:58But what's really cool about that too is that, you know, it fills up the bloodlust gauge.
11:02So using this at the end of a combo, right?
11:04Yeah, it does.
11:05Like it gives you about like 40%.
11:07So then if you were doing it after the savage slashes, you know, that's just a really quick way for you to get like 65% of the bloodlust gauge.
11:16And then his ultimate attack, one of the coolest in the game.
11:20It's so sick.
11:21It's really cool.
11:22I mean, come on.
11:23So his ultimate attack called like, you know, Bloodhunt.
11:25Shout outs to everyone that made this possible.
11:28But like, look at this.
11:29Let's take a second to appreciate this, right?
11:31Following the trail.
11:33You get the whole fantasy of like the, like going through the streets of Zahn.
11:36Yeah.
11:37And what's like also super cool about this attack is that, you know, it can like pick up off the ground.
11:42Another really, really cool thing about it is that if you aren't in a bloodlust, it will instantly put you in.
11:48Yeah.
11:49It's like the, it's like a conversion.
11:50Right.
11:51I'm going to turn all this meter and I'm going right in the bloodlust and dealing a ton of damage.
11:54Right.
11:55And it's, it's expensive.
11:56Mind you.
11:57It's like, not that, you know, you, you instantly get it.
11:59Three bars to get there.
12:00You're cashing out for those of you who were wondering like, well, Hey man, like if I'm already in bloodlust.
12:05Oh yeah.
12:06What's the benefit?
12:07Like, why would I even do it beside the damage?
12:09Well, you know, our homage to League, right?
12:12Is that we let Warwick heal.
12:14Like he's like the only character that can do that.
12:18When you hit the ultimate, you can see that he actually gains back life.
12:27Yeah.
12:28It's a big chunk.
12:29Yeah.
12:30It's a big chunk.
12:31Kind of un-KO-able, you know, unstoppable.
12:34So he has two assists.
12:35His first one is an assist version of Rage of the Beast.
12:38That's his forward and assist.
12:40What I think so good about that is that it's like really cool at like knocking the opponent away and just being annoying.
12:45Right.
12:46If you team up Warwick with somebody like Teemo or you team him up with like Jinx.
12:50Right.
12:51Like.
12:52That gives me all the space to just start.
12:53Exactly.
12:54Right.
12:55Like if I'm like flying around with Teemo, just kind of being annoying.
12:57Boom.
12:58I knock you away.
12:59And then I just started throwing more rocks.
13:00Like shooting more pebbles at you.
13:02I'm seeing the scenario in my nightmares.
13:03Like, oh no.
13:04Don't give him ideas.
13:05Don't give him ideas.
13:06You know.
13:07That to me is what's awesome about like using that assist.
13:10Right.
13:11You can plug him in as also like a damage extender.
13:13Yeah.
13:14You could pick up off of it.
13:15It's like the timing is tight, but you could do it.
13:17And that allows you to kind of like, you know, let Warwick come in.
13:21He could get some blood gauge, you know, that kind of thing.
13:24What's also awesome when Warwick is used as an assist is that when he's off of the screen, he doesn't lose bloodlust gauge.
13:30Okay.
13:31So you don't have to worry about like always keeping him on point.
13:33Exactly.
13:34So, you know, if you like, you know, get a little bit of the bloodlust gauge and then tag him back out, it'll stay at that same amount.
13:43And then his back assist, he does an assist version of Bloodseeker.
13:46Okay.
13:47You could use Warwick to pick him back up to extend the combo, you know.
13:51And then also, once again, it's also good at creating space, kind of knocking the opponent away.
13:56But yeah, so you have like the one assist that really covers that horizontal space and then the other one kind of like can command the skies.
14:01If you're able to knock him out, right, and he's down and out, what does a super assist look like?
14:05So his super assist is basically no escape.
14:09Yep.
14:10And in my opinion, this might be like one of the…
14:13It's really good.
14:14It might be one of the strongest super assist, you know, no bias, no bias.
14:20So yeah, we've talked a ton about just like his different strengths, sort of like philosophy, how he got there.
14:26But what about if you're playing against Warwick and you're like, man, what do I do against this guy?
14:30What are like some weaknesses you should keep on the brain?
14:33The thing about Warwick is that he is a bigger champ.
14:36It's like he can get hit by buttons that are kind of thrown out because he has like some bigger hurtboxes with his attacks as well.
14:43Like he could get punished if your spacing is incorrect.
14:45We wanted to make sure that there was counterplay to all of his attacks, right?
14:49So if your opponent is like highly aware of Warwick's kit, then you have to kind of surprise them.
14:54We wanted to make sure that while Warwick did feel scary, like he doesn't feel there's no counterplay to him.
15:00You know, for all of Warwick's strengths and everything, he does need to get up close for him to like really strike fear into the opponent.
15:07So on a team then, it sounds like you really want to pair something up with Warwick who's going to cover these weaknesses for him.
15:13Who do you feel like is like a strong fit for that on the roster right now?
15:16So I think that like, you know, once again, Jinx, very helpful.
15:19Her projectile allows her to kind of cover him and allows him a way in.
15:23Another champion that I was using recently that I think is pretty fun is like Teemo.
15:27Any character that could kind of like help Warwick get more bloodless gauge, I think is also a great fit.
15:34I feel like we've covered a really good like breadth of the kit.
15:37You got any like tech or combos you want to show off?
15:39Yes, I'm using a character that you could consider a combo fiend, right?
15:42So here's one for the viewers.
15:45Okay.
15:46Okay.
15:47Let's go.
15:48Let's go.
15:49Let's go with push drive.
15:50Actual, actual first day.
16:05That was just like one combo that I showed you with different kind of cancel routes and specials being used.
16:12I mean, I'm really excited to see what all of you end up like finding with him and the routes that you guys choose.
16:17It's so awesome to be able to work on Warwick and just like be able to kind of represent that viciousness and virality and all of that.
16:24And now give that to the players and see what they end up finding.
16:27You never really know how it's going to turn out until players get their hands on it.
16:30But we're all really excited about Warwick.
16:32And yeah, we can't wait for y'all to try him.
16:33All right.
16:34And that's Warwick in a nutshell.
16:35So thanks everyone for tuning in.
16:37And don't forget Warwick is on the hunt in early access.
16:40You can play 2XKO for free now on PC.
16:44We'll see you soon.
16:45We'll see you soon.
16:46We'll see you soon.
16:47Bye.
