00:00John Feliciano, long-time offensive lineman in the league,
00:03last two years with the 49ers,
00:05joining us here on Willard and Dibbs,
00:08as he does every single Tuesday.
00:10Hey, John, what's going on?
00:12What's up, guys? I'm doing great.
00:15I love the conversation y'all were just having.
00:19Why don't you weigh in?
00:21I'm sure that you've had a coach do something,
00:25whether it's hands on you, face-to-face, screaming,
00:28like where's the line for you?
00:32I think it's – I think each coach gets a different pass.
00:38It depends on your relationship with the coach.
00:42If Bobby Johnson were to push me,
00:46I would probably push him back and then we'll hug him
00:49and freaking make up right after the game.
00:54But, yeah, that was kind of –
00:57I think head coaches get put up into –
01:00they're the boss of everybody.
01:05So I don't think a head coach should be putting their hands on someone else
01:09unless he's okay with someone putting his hands on them.
01:14Yeah, I mean, that's kind of the way I was saying to Mark.
01:20Like, what if that happened?
01:22Like, what if Di Mercado would have either pushed back or fired back?
01:25Then we'd have a whole other situation, wouldn't we?
01:29He'd be kicked out in the league for the rest of his career.
01:32I mean, he was a third-round – or, sorry, third-string running back.
01:36So, I mean, I think John Gannon knew –
01:41there's people who you know who you can put your hands on and who's not.
01:45A guy like him who is, you know, lucky to be playing right now.
01:52Obviously, he was a third-string.
01:53I'm not trying to take shots.
01:55But he has – he's the bottom man of the totem pole.
02:01So they could do some more things to him that they couldn't do to, like, Connor.
02:08John, you've been coming on this show way too many weeks for us
02:11to not have been introduced to your not-vocally-challenged children
02:17in the background.
02:19I'm trying my best.
02:20No, no, no, you're good.
02:22No, we love it.
02:23Yeah, yeah, just – you've got to introduce us.
02:25No, they're the worst.
02:28Well, don't put your hands on them, okay?
02:30But no, yeah.
02:31No, no, no.
02:32No, John Gannon.
02:33No, no, but no.
02:34Yeah, introduce us, please.
02:36We'll get there.
02:38That's my youngest one.
02:39She's one and a half.
02:41My eight-year-old daughter and my five-year-old son,
02:44they're both a chip off the old block.
02:47So I'm kind of getting some payback going right now.
02:51So we're in the middle of, like, our house getting rebuilt
02:56and we're in a rental right now, so I can't wait.
03:00In a couple of weeks, I'll have my man cave.
03:03It's going to be awesome.
03:05And you had a big sign on that door that says no kids, right?
03:09Oh, yeah.
03:09Oh, yeah.
03:10No one's allowed in there unless I'm in there with them.
03:14Yeah, which is pretty good.
03:17Are the little ones chips off the old block in terms of their use of four-letter words,
03:23or is that still a developing skill?
03:30No, my son definitely lets some rip on me.
03:35Then I get in trouble.
03:36So, you know, a life of a husband and a father.
03:42That's right.
03:42And it's the blame game.
03:44We've been there for sure.
03:45John, you've got to weigh in on what is totally making the bay tick right now.
03:52And I don't even know if you're aware of this,
03:53but we don't have a quarterback controversy,
03:57but there's enough people out and about that right now think that this is at least eyebrow-raising
04:05that Mac Jones has gone 3-0.
04:08So let me just start with that.
04:10What is your reaction to the way he has played
04:13and sort of what the 49ers should do with that going forward?
04:19He's played great.
04:20Kudos to him.
04:23I hope he plays well this week.
04:25The prop won't be out there, right?
04:28Probably not.
04:29Yeah, I don't know yet.
04:30But, yeah, I mean, they're obviously both hurt,
04:32but it feels like another Mac Jones production.
04:36Yeah, so I hope he does good this week.
04:39I hope he keeps winning for us, but there is no quarterback controversy.
04:44Brock Purdy is your starting quarterback.
04:46Get used to it.
04:47He'll be there for the next 10 years,
04:49and he'll win you a couple of Super Bowls.
04:51So it's all calm down.
04:53Hell yeah, Mac.
04:56Good for you, buddy.
04:57What about in the immediate term, though?
05:00It was suggested to our station earlier today by Brian Baldinger,
05:06if Mac wins at Tampa, he gets another start,
05:10no matter what Brock's health is.
05:12What do you say to that?
05:13That sounds good for everyone else except your franchise quarterback.
05:20You're not playing those games with that guy.
05:23I say when Brock is fully healthy, Brock goes out there and plays.
05:29And hopefully by that time we're whatever and won.
05:33And Mac keeps winning and keeps us going.
05:35What's that like in the locker room when you do have an unsettled quarterback situation?
05:43I'm not saying that this is that,
05:44but does it get to a point where the linemen and the receivers and everyone else
05:49is kind of talking about what might happen or what should happen,
05:53or do you guys just kind of mind your own business?
05:54No, everyone in there is excited for when Brock gets back.
06:00Mac's doing a hell of a job,
06:02but I'm sure everyone up front knows Brock's cadence like the back of their hand.
06:07They don't know Mac's like Brock's.
06:10There's just a comfort with Brock in that huddle.
06:13When you're out there, Tampa's going to be a wild environment.
06:20Brock's voice is ingrained in my brain.
06:23Brock's, Josh, Daniel Jones, Derek.
06:27I could be in the other room and hear a game going on.
06:30Like, oh, that's so-and-so's cadence.
06:37It just baffles me that this is – I mean, I get it.
06:43I get what people got to do.
06:46It's a good story.
06:48But Brock's not going nowhere.
06:50And Mac's going to be a starting quarterback.
06:53On a different team next year, just like Sam was.
06:56You think so?
06:57Because, by the way, he's on a two-year deal.
06:59Like, he's not going anywhere unless the Niners let him.
07:03There's definitely going to be trade options.
07:06It's got to be.
07:07I mean, the Raiders would probably be a good choice.
07:09I don't know how New Orleans is going to be with – what's his name?
07:14Rattler or whatever, Spencer Rattler.
07:17There's going to be – oh, sorry.
07:19There's going to be opportunities on different teams, and that's a nice little training piece.
07:25Yeah, that's one way to do it.
07:27I mean, but then again, there's two things about that.
07:30A, with how many Brock injuries we've seen lately, would you do that if you're the Niners?
07:36And number two, with the perception of Kyle Shanahan gets the best out of quarterbacks,
07:42do other teams think Mac Jones would look like this if he were there?
07:46The best thing that ever happened to Mac Jones in recent history is that Sam Darnold was with us,
07:54went to Minnesota, balled out, now is on Seattle.
07:58He's playing very well.
07:59That all works in Mac's favor.
08:02I definitely see – I mean, it would be great to keep Mac for another year,
08:06but I could definitely see them trading and Kyle getting his hands on the next new quarterback
08:12that he's going to freaking find tool.
08:15Yeah, and it seems like that is what he does so very well,
08:20and so maybe you get a pick coming back for Mac Jones.
08:23I want to go back to the Thursday game, John, while we have you
08:26and ask you the question that I'm afraid we're going to have to ask you every week,
08:30and that is, why can't they run the football?
08:33Dude.
08:36I mean, so the Rams, they have one of the best defenses in the league.
08:44Those guys on the outside, they make it really hard to run what we run,
08:49and I think that's why the Rams are built the way they are.
08:51They obviously got to play us twice a year,
08:53and there's a lot of teams going into the Shanahan tree and the outside zone stuff.
09:00Shut up!
09:01Wait a minute.
09:09Time out on the answer, and we'll go back to it.
09:12You said eight, five, and one?
09:15She's almost two.
09:17She's almost two.
09:18Okay.
09:18She needs to be shaping up.
09:20What's her name?
09:23Mercy.
09:24Mercy.
09:25Okay.
09:26M-E-R-C-I.
09:27Okay, and then what are the older two named?
09:32Raphael.
09:32We call him RJ.
09:33That's my son.
09:35He's five.
09:36Okay.
09:37And Sean, she's eight.
09:39Sean, and she's eight.
09:40Okay.
09:41I just want, like, we're going to need these names.
09:43You know what I mean?
09:44We're going to need these.
09:45If they're going to talk to us this much on the radio,
09:47we're going to need to be able to talk to them as well, John.
09:50Two weeks, two more shows, and I'm fucking, oh.
09:58At least it wasn't me that got you mad this week.
10:02It's your two-year-old daughter.
10:04I feel better about that, big John.
10:07Yeah.
10:08All right.
10:08Anyway, as you were, you were talking about, I don't know.
10:12The Rams defense.
10:13Oh, the Rams defense.
10:13The Rams defense, yeah.
10:15Run the blanking ball.
10:17I think George Kittle is just – his absence is really hindering our offense.
10:27He is bar none the best tight end in the league, blocking and receiving.
10:34He really helps make everything go.
10:36Obviously, I think the O-line needs to play better.
10:41I think Christian's been doing everything he can, playing great in the pass game
10:45and, you know, hitting them runs when he can get something.
10:50I think hopefully Barch comes back soon.
10:53I think he'll be a big, big help.
10:56I think this is – these are great reps for Kobe to get right now.
11:02And I think that will help him down his career.
11:04But it's just – he's just not ready yet.
11:06It's not, you know, not his hole at all.
11:07He's doing everything he can out there.
11:10I mean, he's playing, you know, decent ball.
11:14And for a rookie, he's playing really good for a rookie.
11:19Obviously not like Poonie last year.
11:20Poonie is one of the – I think Poonie is starting to turn it around.
11:24I think he had a better game last week.
11:27So, I think it's just a matter of time before we get it going.
11:31John Feliciano is with us every Tuesday here on Willard and Dibs at 5 o'clock
11:35here on 95.7 The Game.
11:37John with the Niners the last couple of years.
11:39So, great to have his insight here.
11:42And so, stick with that run game a little further, John.
11:45And this is my question.
11:46Like, it feels like what Kyle Shanahan normally would do is not available.
11:54They love to run their defense through the pass rush.
11:58Nick Bosa's gone.
11:59They love to run the ball on offense.
12:02They're not running the ball.
12:04So, he's totally out of his comfort zone, yet they're 4-1.
12:06What do you see him do right now?
12:09Like, what are – is he having to kind of reinvent himself on a weekly basis?
12:14How is he functioning on offense without his best pitch?
12:19How is he looking right now?
12:20I haven't seen him recently, but it's getting to the point in the season
12:23where he's going to be looking like he's starting to die.
12:25Yeah.
12:25I mean, this guy, he is just constantly watching film, and it's crazy.
12:37So, I can imagine the amount of film research and just, like, the things going around in his head right now.
12:44So, like you said, I don't – it's obviously not what he wants to do all the time.
12:52But I get a sense that he's kind of excited with all these down pieces,
12:56and he gets to really game plan something up where he could get the most out of the players
13:03that I think he's been doing.
13:05I mean, we're 4-1.
13:06We're – I mean, got to be the most injured team in the league again.
13:09And it's really a testament to Kyle and all the guys in that building that they're 4-1 right now.
13:18Yeah, and Tampa's also 4-1, and they're doing it in kind of a similar way
13:23with a lot of games rescued from the jaws of defeat.
13:26What have you made of that offense, especially, you know, Baker Mayfield
13:31and what they've been able to do also missing a bunch of pieces on offense?
13:34Tampa has just climbed up my board of teams I like.
13:43Obviously, right now, 1A, 1B is Buffalo and San Francisco.
13:49And then, like, Tampa's right there, man.
13:51I mean, I hung out with Baker, their left guard, Ben Bredesen,
13:56and Tristan, their left tackle, at Ben's wedding this offseason.
14:02And, like, those guys get after it.
14:05Those are my kind of guys.
14:07I love – hey, Baker Mayfield is my kind of guy.
14:11And we were talking about this earlier on the pod, not our fault podcast on YouTube.
14:18Yep.
14:18Check it out.
14:21What's the head coach's name again at Tampa?
14:23Bulls.
14:25Bulls, there we go.
14:25So, him – like, he's a defensive head coach.
14:31Baker is literally, like, has a mindset of a linebacker.
14:35So, him and Baker, like, must be, like, jiving great because you can just tell
14:40throughout the whole team is, like, they all believe that regardless of what's going
14:44to happen, they're going to end up winning the game.
14:46And it's just – it's been fun to watch, man.
14:48So, how do you see the matchup this weekend between the two considering their
14:52current circumstances?
14:56You know, it's going to be a tough one.
14:58Well, I'll say this.
15:00We've had Tampa's number in the last few years.
15:04It's going to go down to the wire again, like all Tampa's games do.
15:09But I think Kyle's going to work that clock and make sure that we got the last
15:13possession and we're going to pull it out at the end.
15:15And my boy, Eddie, is going to kick another field goal.
15:18I was with Eddie when he was a rookie in Oakland.
15:22That's my guy.
15:24That's your guy.
15:25Yeah, they almost gave it away last year with not your guy, Jake Moody,
15:30missing a bunch of kicks against Tampa.
15:33Yeah, I remember that.
15:36And, by the way, Diebel did not put his hands on that white man.
15:39Yeah, okay.
15:42Okay, wait a minute.
15:44That's what I said, John.
15:45Were you on the field or were you hurt?
15:47What was the situation in the Tampa game?
15:49I was on the sideline.
15:51I was there.
15:51I was still on IR.
15:53All right, but take us through it.
15:55Tabor Pepper, Jake Moody, Debo Samuel were missing kicks.
15:58Like, what happened?
16:02I mean, it's just, you know, each phase of the ball has, like, their own sayings.
16:07So, like, offense, like, we would always say, like, tighten up or things like that.
16:13So, like, it's just, like, a common phrase for, like, the huddle.
16:16So, Debo had said that to Moody, but, you know, Moody's special teamers are, you know, they're punter, kicker, snapper.
16:31Like, they're, you know, they're on the softer end of the spectrum of guys, you know.
16:35So, they kind of just took it the wrong way.
16:38And, you know, not knowing that, like, that's a common thing that we just tell each other on offense.
16:42Yeah.
16:43Wait, what was the thing?
16:45Interesting recollection, John, because I'm looking at the video right now.
16:48And, well, he didn't put hands on him, but he basically gave him the old choke push where he thrust his hand into Tabor's neck and pushed him away.
16:58There was nothing in the locker room.
17:03Got it.
17:03Gotcha.
17:03Got it.
17:04Wait, what was the phrase again?
17:05So, Debo says to Jake Moody, what?
17:07I think Debo's just, like, tighten up.
17:09Tighten up.
17:10Tighten up.
17:10Yeah.
17:11Okay.
17:11It's like we say lock in.
17:13Lock in.
17:13All the time.
17:14And Tabor Pepper didn't like that.
17:16Yeah.
17:17Tabor's, you know, trying to protect his guy.
17:20Yeah.
17:21And now neither one of them is a 49er or so.
17:24Actually, none of the three.
17:25All three guys involved in this little thing.
17:270 for 3.
17:29Yeah.
17:30They're all gone.
17:30Hey, how often do little things like that happen?
17:33I mean, you're all alpha males and it's a testosterone sport.
17:37Is there a lot more of this type of thing that goes on behind closed doors than we know about?
17:44I mean, sometimes.
17:47I mean, like you were saying before, there's, like, tons of fights.
17:50But it's this thing where, like, there'll be a fight, but as soon as you get in the locker room, you're just like, hey, how about that fight?
17:58I got you with that hook, right?
18:00It's like, we're big kids.
18:02Like, we're just big, dumb football players.
18:05You know, we just want to sometimes, sometimes you can't use words.
18:08You use fists and then you use words.
18:10Hey, what did you think of the Bills on Sunday night, John?
18:17I know.
18:17Yeah.
18:18I mean, it's a weird thing where, like, obviously, I don't really, I hate the Patriots.
18:24I don't like them at all.
18:27But, like, Diggs is my guy.
18:30Like, I love Diggs.
18:31So, like, every time he would make a play, I'd be like, oh, let's go.
18:35And I'm like, oh, shit.
18:36Like, obviously, I was pulling for the Bills.
18:39But, I mean, great for 10 catches, 146.
18:42I mean, that's, and I always like when older guys ball out because I'm like, yeah, we still got it.
18:49Yep.
18:50So, did you play with Diggs in Buffalo?
18:53Yeah, I was with him for two years.
18:54Okay, so why have four teams been like, dude, you got to get off of our roster?
18:59Like, what's going on with him?
19:02Um, I don't know.
19:06I love Diggs.
19:07I think, obviously, in Minnesota, he showed his ass a little bit.
19:12I think in Buffalo, it was not the case.
19:15I think it was just a cap thing.
19:17And, like, all all-stars, all big-time receivers, they all want the ball.
19:24Um, and I think it might have just been the case where, you know, quarterbacks love to, love to make sure their guy is good, make sure the, the, the star has, is calm and relaxed.
19:38Um, so I think, I think just, you know, Bean and Sean, they're just like, with the money, especially with, like, the money they've had to spend, it was just kind of the thing where they're like, let's ease Josh with not having to give anyone the ball at any time.
19:54Because, as you've seen, like, they don't really have a number one guy.
19:57I mean, Khalil Shakur is, is really good.
20:00He's probably their number one.
20:02But, and that offense is just like, kind of like, like in, in, in Tampa, where they just give the ball to everybody.
20:09Um, I, I, while we're on this subject, um, this is something we've been talking about this week.
20:15I don't know if you followed the Philly game against Denver, but that, that Eagles team, that offensive line, the way they run the ball, and a 14-point lead at home in the fourth quarter, but they only run the ball 11 times all game long.
20:30But they target the hell out of A.J. Brown and Devontae Smith, and this is after a report comes out that both of them are really ticked off about how they're not getting the ball.
20:41So, like, I don't know.
20:42What's the right thing to do there?
20:46Um, well, like, A.J.'s never been a high reception guy.
20:52Uh, but he, he would have, like, three catches for, like, one, 125.
20:58You know what I'm saying?
20:59Right.
20:59He's special.
21:01Um, but, yeah, you know, they got a new O.C.
21:04Uh, I think they're just trying to figure out what, who they are this year.
21:09Um, and I will say, I know Saquon well from our one year.
21:13I know Saquon is just, like, I want to win kind of deal.
21:17Yep.
21:18But after last week, they just, like, Saquon needs to go, and they're, like, give me the damn ball and let me run it 25 times.
21:24All right, so, Sean, Rafael, and Mercy.
21:27And what do you call Rafael?
21:29R.J.
21:31R.J.
21:32Okay.
21:32All right.
21:33I think we got it, John.
21:34And then how's the Not Our Fault podcast going?
21:36It's going well.
21:39Um, we just shot our next episode, or our newest episode will be out on Thursday.
21:44Uh, we're having a lot of fun.
21:46We went a little off the rails at the end of this podcast.
21:48Good.
21:48Um, which we'll definitely leave in.
21:51I'm not about taking off anything.
21:54Um, so, if you want to laugh, get to the end, and it'll be, uh, it'll be, uh, something.

22:38Great to have you.
