Ted Stryker (Dana Andrews) has drifted through life unsuccessfully since he led a dreadful air attack in World War II. When his wife, Ellen (Linda Darnell), and his son leave him, Ted hurries onto their plane, where he tries to convince Ellen that he has changed. Meanwhile, many of the people on the flight, including the pilot (Elroy Hirsch), fall ill with food poisoning. It's left up to Ted, with help from Captain Treleaven (Sterling Hayden) in air control, to safely land the plane.

00:01:59The 172nd Squadron of the Royal Air Force crossed the boundary of Germany under the command of Canadian squadron leader Ted Stryker.
00:02:07Their mission? Penetrate enemy fighter cover and hold the formation intact for a vital incendiary raid on the German supply depots of Weisbaden.
00:02:16At 0730, 12 miles from the target, enemy fighters were sighted directly ahead.
00:02:22Stryker led his planes to meet them.
00:02:24The 171th Guard.

00:02:41Let's go.
00:03:11Let's go.
00:03:41Let's go.
00:04:11Five weeks later, the war in Europe was over.
00:04:15But for squadron leader Stryker seriously wounded in the course of the raid, a new kind of war was just beginning.
00:04:23It's closed in, Ted. What about the alternate target?
00:04:28We can't see anything in this board.
00:04:29We're off course.
00:04:30We're on course.
00:04:31We're too low, Ted. We're too low!
00:04:33It seems to be healing very nicely, everything considered.
00:04:48The pressure on the optic nerve is almost completely gone.
00:04:57Is there any pain left in there?
00:04:59No.
00:04:59Well, keep looking straight ahead.
00:05:03I heard about that meeting at headquarters this morning.
00:05:11You're taking all the blame for what happened in that raid.
00:05:13It's a pretty courageous thing to do.
00:05:15Was it?
00:05:19Because of my mistake, six men didn't return from that raid.
00:05:23What's the good of condemning yourself?
00:05:28Nothing you can do about it now.
00:05:29No, there's nothing I can do about it.
00:05:31But that doesn't mean I can live with it.
00:05:33You're going to have to.
00:05:34Sooner or later, you might as well get used to it.
00:05:36If you don't, you haven't got much of a life ahead of you.
00:05:39It's easy to say.
00:05:41But those were my men.
00:05:43They've been through a lot together.
00:05:46They were depending on me.
00:05:48They'd be going home now if I hadn't failed them.
00:05:51What about failing yourself?
00:05:55You know, I...
00:05:56I've been watching you the past few weeks here at the hospital.
00:06:00Seeing no one, speaking to no one.
00:06:03You're on the run, Strecker.
00:06:06You've got to face what happened.
00:06:08Forget it.
00:06:08Nobody's got a corner on mistakes.
00:06:10In a war or any other time.
00:06:13Good luck, Strecker.
00:06:26You have the authority to hire anybody you want, haven't you?
00:06:39After they're cleared for the kind of highly classified government work we're doing?
00:06:43Yes.
00:06:44What is it?
00:06:45My war record again?
00:06:46No, not really.
00:06:48You're the only one keeping that alive.
00:06:51For most people, it's ancient history.
00:06:52You expect me to believe that?
00:06:54It's the truth.
00:06:55Frankly, what bothers us is your record since the war.
00:06:59Twelve jobs in ten years.
00:07:02And not one of them shows you can accept any responsibility.
00:07:05Not one of them was worthy of a man of your training and experience.
00:07:08But I've stayed away from the thing I was really trained for.
00:07:13You know why.
00:07:15But now...
00:07:18Look, Frank.
00:07:19I may be all the things they say I am.
00:07:22But I think I can handle that job and I need it very badly.
00:07:26My wife and I...
00:07:28Well, we're right at the breaking point.
00:07:32I'll do anything you say if you'll just give me a chance.
00:07:34I won't let you down, Frank.
00:07:36I promise you.
00:07:39All right.
00:07:39I'll see what I can do.
00:07:42Thanks.
00:07:43Thanks.
00:07:56Hi, Mrs. Clirty.
00:07:57Anything for me?
00:07:58No.
00:07:59There's one for your wife.
00:08:01What you say?
00:08:02It looks like you two are going to do a little celebrating.
00:08:04Well, everything the law allows.
00:08:05After all, this is a pretty special occasion.
00:08:07I bet I know.
00:08:08You've got that job you've been wanting.
00:08:09It looks that way.
00:08:10I'll tell you all about it later.
00:08:16Ellen?
00:08:21Oh, Ellen, I think...
00:08:22Oh, Ellen, I think...
00:08:52When do we take off, Mom?
00:09:22Oh, any minute now, dear.
00:09:24They've almost finished loading the baggage.
00:09:30We'll be taking off in a few minutes, sir.
00:09:31Do you want to take the empty seat right up there?
00:09:52Oh, my God.
00:10:02Oh, my God.
00:10:04Let's go.
00:10:34Let's go.

00:12:16Let's go.
00:12:17Get back.
00:12:18Where did you guys go?
00:12:19All right.
00:12:20There's only room for one mantenor.
00:12:21Dad.
00:12:22Dad!
00:12:23I thought you weren't coming.
00:12:24Hi, Joey.
00:12:25I came home early and found your note.
00:12:26I guess you meant for me to read it later.
00:12:28Marilyn, I've got to talk to you.
00:12:29Joey can sit in my seat back there.
00:12:30I just don't want to go over it anymore.
00:12:32I just thought...
00:12:35How'd you like to go up in the cockpit, Joey?
00:12:37Could we?
00:12:39I'll check with his tour deists and see if they'll let us up there.
00:12:41Be reasonable, Janet.
00:12:43I can't help breaking our date in Vancouver.
00:12:45I've got to be in Seattle by tomorrow night or I'll lose the late club job.
00:12:48You know what it means if I can work myself into that MC spot?
00:12:51We could be married by summer.
00:12:53Sounds a little familiar, like one of your routines.
00:12:56I'm sure whatever your reasons are, they're excellent, Mr. Decker.
00:12:59Your name, sir?
00:13:00Stryker.
00:13:01Oh, yes, Mr. Stryker.
00:13:02I was just speaking to your wife and little boy.
00:13:04I didn't know you were traveling together.
00:13:06That's all right.
00:13:06Look, I wonder if you could do me a favor.
00:13:09My boy has never been inside of a cockpit before.
00:13:13And like old kids, he's crazy about planes and pilots.
00:13:16Oh, I'm sure we can arrange that.
00:13:18The impter's creeping up again on number three, Bill.
00:13:20I'll open the cowlclap for a moment.
00:13:24Still running a little hot.
00:13:26We have visitors.
00:13:27Hello.
00:13:28Hi.
00:13:29This is Captain Wilson and our first officer, Mr. Stewart.
00:13:31And this is Mr. Stryker and his son, Joey.
00:13:34We don't want to be in the way up here,
00:13:35but I just know the boy might have a quick look.
00:13:37You feeling any better?
00:13:39Yeah, I'm okay now.
00:13:40I'll be serving dinner pretty soon.
00:13:42We have a choice tonight, grilled halibut or lamb chops.
00:13:44I'll try the fish.
00:13:45It was pretty good last week.
00:13:46Same for me, Janet.
00:13:47Okay.
00:13:47That's what I'd like to, please.
00:13:49All right.
00:13:49I'll serve it to you as soon as you come back.
00:13:51What about you, Mr. Stryker?
00:13:52I'll have the meat.
00:13:54All right.
00:13:54Come on, move up here.
00:13:55You can see better.
00:13:58Joey, here's something we give our special visitors.
00:14:00Would you like to have it?
00:14:03Thanks a lot.
00:14:05You ever been in the cockpit before?
00:14:06No, sir.
00:14:07I've never been up in a plane before.
00:14:09How do you like it?
00:14:10Swell.
00:14:11Are those the things that work the propellers?
00:14:14How'd you know that?
00:14:15My dad.
00:14:16He was a flyer in the war.
00:14:17He flew jets.
00:14:18I told you before, Joey.
00:14:20They didn't have jets when I flew.
00:14:22Oh.
00:14:23Well, he flew a lot anyway.
00:14:25Fighters.
00:14:26Shot down a lot of planes, too, didn't you, Dad?
00:14:28Joey, can you never fly anymore?
00:14:31I thought you service guys never got out of your system.
00:14:33Do you want me to check the weather, Bill?
00:14:35No, I'll get it.
00:14:35Excuse me.
00:14:36We better get back now.
00:14:38Joey can stay up here for a while if he'd like to.
00:14:41Could I, Dad?
00:14:42Okay.
00:14:42If you don't get in the way.
00:14:43Thanks very much.
00:14:46Flight 714 to Winnipeg Radio.
00:14:48Climbing, climbing to cruise 8000.
00:14:50What's the latest on the weather, please?
00:14:52It's not good.
00:14:53Looks like snow and ice crystals around vagina.
00:14:55Most likely some fog in an hour or two.
00:14:57But you're not going into Calgary, so that shouldn't bother you.
00:15:00What's the forecast on Vancouver?
00:15:02Should be all right when the fog clears, Captain.
00:15:04Flight 714.
00:15:05Thanks a lot.
00:15:08Well, Joey, what do you think of all this?
00:15:10Would you like to grow up and be a pilot like your dad?
00:15:12Try it again, Whitney.
00:15:14Just try.
00:15:15I have.
00:15:17I've tried to believe that you'd take hold somewhere.
00:15:21Dad, face it for once.
00:15:22We've been on the run ever since the war.
00:15:25Different cities, different jobs.
00:15:27And all the time you've kept going further and further away from Joey and me.
00:15:32He's needed you, Ted.
00:15:36I've needed you.
00:15:38But you were never there.
00:15:39I know things haven't been right for a long time, Ellen.
00:15:43But it'll be different.
00:15:45Like it was in the beginning.
00:15:47Remember?
00:15:47I remember everything.
00:15:49It's all I've ever had to go on.
00:15:52Mostly I remember the nights when we were together.
00:15:55I remember how you used to hold me.
00:16:01And then afterwards, how we watched until the sun finally came up.
00:16:06When it did, it was almost like...
00:16:09Like each new day was created only for us.
00:16:14That's the way I've always wanted it to be.
00:16:16No matter what's happened, Ellen.
00:16:18But I remember other things, too.
00:16:20How you began to change right in front of my eyes.
00:16:23Everything that we had together, Ted, has...
00:16:27It's gotten lost somewhere.
00:16:30It isn't what you did.
00:16:32It's more and more what you didn't do.
00:16:36Maybe I should have been of more help to you.
00:16:40But you wouldn't even let me do that.
00:16:43All I've ever wanted was to see you stop running away.
00:16:46To face the one big mistake you ever made in your whole life.
00:16:50It's the kind of a mistake that any man could make under fire.
00:16:54And I've waited...
00:16:55And I've waited so long for you to...
00:16:57Make a stand somewhere.
00:16:59For the three of us.
00:17:00I will.
00:17:01I promise.
00:17:03Joy and I can't live any longer on your promises.
00:17:05I'm sorry.
00:17:06Don't you feel anything for me at all anymore?
00:17:11It takes so many things to make love last.
00:17:15Most of all, it takes respect.
00:17:17I can't live with a man I don't respect.
00:17:21I can't live with a man.
00:17:22I can't live with a man.
00:17:23It's a very well-known story.
00:17:29Hello, Dick.
00:17:30I'll drink some beer.
00:17:30You can put it in the cupboards quick.
00:17:31Good.
00:17:32I'll drink some beer, кто and I'll drink some beer, mister.
00:17:34Hey, let's eat some beer.
00:17:35This is just a drop of water, you know.
00:17:36Are you about ready for something to eat?
00:17:38Well, we're about worked up to it at that.
00:17:40What would you like, grilled halibut or lamb chops?
00:17:42Well, now, isn't this just like home?
00:17:44I'll have a wee bit of the halibut.
00:17:46Are the chips come with it?
00:17:47Well, no, not chips.
00:17:48We have the specialty of the house.
00:17:49We have a gratin' potatoes.
00:17:50Uh-huh.
00:17:51What about you, gentlemen?
00:17:52I believe I'll have the meat, miss.
00:17:53It's all I.
00:17:54Okay.
00:17:55Say, why don't you come to the big game with us tomorrow?
00:17:57It should be a good one, you know.
00:17:58Oh, I don't know anything about football.
00:18:00Well, you'll be right at home with my two friends here.
00:18:03They don't know anything about it either.
00:18:05Oh, I can hardly believe that.
00:18:07You just don't understand this new formation the Argos have.
00:18:11This chap goes way out into the flat where he can take off fast or go long.
00:18:15That's what they call a flanker.
00:18:17And you just cannot defense against it.
00:18:26We'll see you later, Joey.
00:18:27Okay.
00:18:28Thanks a lot.
00:18:29Nice boy, huh?
00:18:30Sure is.
00:18:31Hey, we've been waitin' for you.
00:18:32A little bit late tonight.
00:18:34Who wants to be first?
00:18:36Go ahead, Walt.
00:18:36I got it.
00:18:37Okay.
00:18:39How's the weather?
00:18:40Not so good.
00:18:41We've got some heavy stuff ahead of us.
00:18:42It might get rough unless we can climb on top.
00:18:44Oh, do you think we'll get in on time?
00:18:46About a half hour late, I'd say.
00:18:48Hey, Jan.
00:18:48Yeah.
00:18:49How are you and that boyfriend of yours doing back there?
00:18:51You think you'll ever get him to the altar?
00:18:52I'll get him there if I have to drag him every inch of the way.
00:18:55After all, remember, I've been trained for every kind of emergency.
00:18:59How's the fish?
00:19:00Not bad.
00:19:01Not bad at all.
00:19:02Save me some seconds if you have some left over, huh?
00:19:04Save you some seconds?
00:19:05Mr. Stewart, I think with your appetite that this airline can't afford you any longer.
00:19:10Well, back to the kitchen.
00:19:13I sure wish you had flown jets, Dad.
00:19:15I'm afraid they're a little too fast for me, Joy.
00:19:17Why don't you fly anymore?
00:19:19I wish you would.
00:19:21Then you could take me up with you.
00:19:23Maybe you could even teach me to fly.
00:19:26That'd be great.
00:19:27We could have a lot of fun.
00:19:30I just don't seem to have the time anymore, Joy.
00:19:33You never have time for anything.
00:19:35I know.
00:19:37Dad.
00:19:39Why were Mom and me going away without you?
00:19:44Joy, your mother felt it might be a good idea.
00:19:47for you two to have a little trip together.
00:19:50I just didn't know whether I could go or not.
00:19:53Until the last minute.
00:19:55I was afraid we weren't going to see you again.
00:19:58Ever.
00:20:00Where did you ever get that idea?
00:20:12Are you finished?
00:20:14Oh, thank you.
00:20:16I don't like this rain, love.
00:20:17Our boys would get hurt on a wet field.
00:20:19It's going to clear off in Vancouver by tomorrow, Mr. Whitman.
00:20:22We just got that report.
00:20:23Well, I'm glad to hear it.
00:20:24I could rest a bit easier now.
00:20:25You see, between you and me,
00:20:27I have some fairly nice wages on the contest tomorrow.
00:20:30Oh, well, I wish you a lot of luck.
00:20:31Well, thank you very much.
00:20:38Would you care for a drop, madam?
00:20:39I had such a good sleep.
00:20:49Wait a minute.
00:20:49I think there's someone staring at us.
00:20:51Patty, we're on an airplane.
00:21:03There are other people with us, remember?
00:21:04He's not joining our act now, is he, Tony?
00:21:06You know I work alone.
00:21:08Oh, stop.
00:21:09I'll find out for meself.
00:21:11Excuse me, young man.
00:21:13Are you in show business?
00:21:14Who, me?
00:21:15He's a nice-looking boy.
00:21:17He might be movie material.
00:21:19Say, what's his name?
00:21:21Patty.
00:21:22He works for me.
00:21:23Hello, darling.
00:21:25Oh, fasten your safety belts.
00:21:27It's going to be a rough ride.
00:21:29It certainly is.
00:21:30Joey, here's your dinner.
00:21:32Well, you didn't bring me my dinner, darling.
00:21:34Well, what would you like?
00:21:35A little kiss.
00:21:36Not now, later.
00:21:38He's got a one-track mind, just like me.
00:21:40Oh, Patty, you're impossible.
00:21:55Yes?
00:21:56I can't stand it.
00:21:58What is it?
00:21:59My stomach.
00:22:01I've never felt anything like it before.
00:22:03Help me.
00:22:06Please help me.
00:22:07Just a moment.
00:22:08I'll get you some Dramamine.
00:22:12Help me.
00:22:18Yes?
00:22:19Captain, one of the women passengers is very sick.
00:22:22Airsick?
00:22:23I think so, but I've never seen it so acute.
00:22:26Find out if there's a doctor on board.
00:22:28As quietly as you can.
00:22:30I'll be back as soon as we get over this weather.
00:22:33We're running into icing conditions.
00:22:36Can you clear us to get over it at 10,000 feet?
00:22:38Okay.
00:22:39ATC clears flight 714 to 10,000.
00:22:43Go ahead.
00:22:45714 to ATC.
00:22:54Here, these pills should help you.
00:22:55Now try to relax.
00:22:56The captain will be back to see you in just a moment.
00:22:58How long before we land?
00:23:00Almost five hours.
00:23:01Oh.
00:23:14I'm sorry I had to wake you.
00:23:16There's no emergency.
00:23:17It's just a passenger who's in a little discomfort, and we thought perhaps a doctor could help.
00:23:20So go back to sleep, fasten your safety belts, and we'll be out of the storm in a little while.
00:23:24Stewardess?
00:23:25Yes.
00:23:25I think the man next to me is a doctor.
00:23:27Oh, thank you.
00:23:28Sir, excuse me, sir.
00:23:30I'm sorry to have to wake you.
00:23:31Are you a doctor?
00:23:32That's right.
00:23:32We have a passenger who's very sick.
00:23:34Could you come and take a look at her?
00:23:35Yes, of course.
00:23:37My boy is sick to his stomach.
00:23:38It's like air sickness, but it's a lot worse.
00:23:40I've never seen anything like it before.
00:23:42Well, this gentleman's a doctor.
00:23:43I'll be with you in a moment.
00:23:44Try to keep him as quiet as you can.
00:23:46All right, but hurry, will you, doctor?
00:23:47Yes.
00:23:47Yes.
00:23:47Yes.
00:23:47This gentleman is a doctor.
00:23:51He's going to help you.
00:23:52May I see your tongue, please?
00:24:00There's the pain there.
00:24:02No.
00:24:03There.
00:24:10I'll be back in a minute.
00:24:15You'd better tell the captain.
00:24:16We've got to land as soon as we can.
00:24:18This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.
00:24:19What do you think it is?
00:24:20Well, I can't be sure yet.
00:24:22But I know it's serious enough to land
00:24:23in the nearest city with hospital facilities.
00:24:25Better tell the captain I want to speak to her.
00:24:27Certainly.
00:24:29Put this around you, Joey.
00:24:30Keep you warm.
00:24:32Well, son, sorry I'm not feeling well.
00:24:34Would you put your tongue on, please?
00:24:40What's he had to eat in the last 24 hours?
00:24:41Oh, just the usual things.
00:24:43Bacon and poached eggs for breakfast,
00:24:45a roast beef sandwich at noon,
00:24:47and dinner on the plane.
00:24:49Well, he should help him.
00:24:53I'll be back in a minute.
00:25:05Captain, how soon do we land?
00:25:06Can't.
00:25:07Why?
00:25:07Weather conditions.
00:25:08Fog is closed down everything this side of the mountains.
00:25:10We'll have to go through to Vancouver.
00:25:12But is that faster than turning back?
00:25:13Yes, we passed the point of no return.
00:25:15Well, how soon do you expect to land?
00:25:17About 2.15 Pacific time.
00:25:19Roughly four hours from now.
00:25:21Well, I'll just have to do what I can.
00:25:28Get him out of there!
00:25:29What is it, Doctor?
00:25:50What's happening?
00:25:50There's a common denominator to these attacks.
00:25:52There's got to be.
00:25:54Most likely thing is full.
00:25:57What was it we had for dinner tonight?
00:25:58Well, the main course was meat or fish.
00:26:01Yes, yes, I remember I had meat.
00:26:03What did he have?
00:26:04Fish.
00:26:05Remember, two sick passengers?
00:26:06Well, the little boy had fish.
00:26:08I don't remember about the woman.
00:26:09Well, find out quickly, please.
00:26:14Yes.
00:26:15No, Stuart, as my wife is very sick,
00:26:16can you do something, please?
00:26:17Well, the doctor will be with you in just a moment.
00:26:20One thing.
00:26:21Do you know what she had for dinner?
00:26:22Yes, of course.
00:26:23We both had fish.
00:26:24Why?
00:26:25Oh, it's nothing to be alarmed about.
00:26:26We'll get back to you very quickly.
00:26:28We'll need ambulances standing by,
00:26:30and the hospital should be notified.
00:26:31They have to have special equipment ready.
00:26:32Right.
00:26:34Is there any chance at all of landing near Calgary?
00:26:36None.
00:26:37Doctor,
00:26:39the woman ate fish, too,
00:26:41and there are two more cases,
00:26:42and they ate fish.
00:26:43Well, now we know what we're facing.
00:26:46Why not everybody on the plane who had fish
00:26:48and helped me get medicine to them?
00:26:49Captain, you better notify Vancouver
00:26:51to put a ban on serving any food
00:26:53from the source that furnished that fish.
00:26:54The doctor?
00:26:56Yeah?
00:26:56I just remembered something.
00:26:59I ate fish, too.
00:27:00Oh, darling.
00:27:02Oh, here's the teeth hurting.
00:27:09Try to stay covered, Joey.
00:27:10I know it hurts, darling,
00:27:12but your father's just gone for the doctor.
00:27:16Stewardess, what's going on?
00:27:17Just keep your seat, please.
00:27:19Joey's worse.
00:27:20I've got to see the doctor.
00:27:21He'll be with you in a minute.
00:27:22Several people are ill.
00:27:23We're doing all we can.
00:27:24What's the matter?
00:27:24Does he know what it is?
00:27:25You better talk to him.
00:27:29Can I help?
00:27:30Oh, yes, Tony.
00:27:31Would you help me give out the medicine?
00:27:32Sure.
00:27:34Calgary Radio, this is 714.
00:27:36We're in trouble.
00:27:37We've got to have all altitudes below us cleared
00:27:39and priority approach and landing at Vancouver.
00:27:41Go ahead.
00:27:43Stand by, 714.
00:27:46Air traffic control, Vancouver.
00:27:47Priority message.
00:27:50Calgary Radio for Vancouver, dispatcher.
00:27:52Hold it.
00:27:53This is Cross Canada.
00:27:55Calgary Radio, flight 714, notifies emergency.
00:27:59Once all lower altitudes cleared,
00:28:01priority approach and landing.
00:28:02Hold it.
00:28:04Flight 714 notifies emergency.
00:28:09Hold all takeoffs.
00:28:10That's right.
00:28:11I don't want another plane in the air.
00:28:13I don't care what the commitments are.
00:28:15Charter flight 714 is in trouble.
00:28:17Food poisoning.
00:28:18I can't go into detail now,
00:28:20but it's coming in without a co-pilot.
00:28:22That's what I said.
00:28:23The co-pilot's unconscious,
00:28:25and there's a chance the food poisoning
00:28:26will strike the captain, too.
00:28:27What about that Air Force North Star
00:28:29just reported at 18,000?
00:28:30Tower, when the North Star reports,
00:28:32bring it straight in.
00:28:33And clear green airway 1.
00:28:35Yeah.
00:28:36I'll let you know the minute anything happens.
00:28:38You don't really believe there's a chance of that, do you?
00:28:40The captain getting sick, I mean?
00:28:41You read the message.
00:28:43This is going to be a real sweat.
00:28:45Let's take this in the verdict.
00:28:49Put out a general bulletin
00:28:50to suspend all meal service
00:28:51on unscheduled flights out of Winnipeg,
00:28:53and try to keep everyone out of this area.
00:28:55We don't want a mob out here.
00:28:56What's the latest on the weather at Calgary?
00:28:57Close right down.
00:28:58Low stratus and ground fog.
00:29:00So are Edmonton and Lethbridge.
00:29:01You working them direct?
00:29:03No, through Calgary.
00:29:04All right, get a message through.
00:29:05Ask them if they've got a doctor on board,
00:29:07and tell them we're getting
00:29:07the best possible medical advice here.
00:29:09Get me Dr. Davidson.
00:29:11You'll find his home number in the emergency list.
00:29:12Then get me the police.
00:29:14I want the weather on every kind of landing field
00:29:16on their side of the mountains.
00:29:17Do you understand?
00:29:18Any place where there's a chance to land this plane.
00:29:20No dice.
00:29:21Calgary's run that check.
00:29:23There's fog down to the deck
00:29:24everywhere east of the Rockies.
00:29:26He'll have to come through.
00:29:28How long ago did Calgary talk to Captain Wilson?
00:29:31About 10 minutes.
00:29:32Is he still feeling all right?
00:29:33Hasn't affected him at all so far.
00:29:37He's got to fight it off.
00:29:43The morphine should help you hold it off.
00:29:46Does he still feel all right?
00:29:47Yeah.
00:29:48With all the solemn and illogic to these things,
00:29:49you might not be affected at all.
00:29:51How are the people back there?
00:29:52We'll take care of them all right.
00:29:54You're sure there's no possibility
00:29:56of the weather clearing long enough
00:29:57for us to land before we start over the mountains?
00:29:59Not a chance.
00:30:00I'd better get back.
00:30:03I think I'll tell them all
00:30:03what's causing the trouble.
00:30:05You agree?
00:30:07Go ahead.
00:30:09Doctor.
00:30:12I'm glad you're here.
00:30:20May I have your attention, please?
00:30:23My name is Baird.
00:30:24I'm a doctor.
00:30:26As you know,
00:30:26some of the passengers are sick.
00:30:28We suspect that the fish
00:30:29which was served for dinner
00:30:30might have been contaminated.
00:30:31There's no cause for alarm.
00:30:33Even if you had fish,
00:30:34you might not be affected.
00:30:35And if you did have fish,
00:30:37we'll tell you what to do.
00:30:42The boy's in an awful lot of pain.
00:30:44Can you do anything for him?
00:30:45He'll be asleep before long.
00:30:47Keep him quiet and warm.
00:30:48That's your job.
00:30:49What's going on up there?
00:30:50I think I have a right to know.
00:30:52Don't worry.
00:30:53Everything's all right.
00:30:54Dad, don't leave me.
00:30:56I won't, Joey.
00:31:04Pardon me, Mr. Whitman.
00:31:05Did you have meat or fish for dinner?
00:31:06I had the blinkered fish.
00:31:07Well, here, take these pills.
00:31:08They'll make you sick.
00:31:10Fine.
00:31:10How do you do this is?
00:31:11They give you your dinner
00:31:12and come around and aspirate back.
00:31:19Captain?
00:31:20Captain Wilson?
00:31:21Quickly, it's the captain.
00:31:34Bill!
00:31:35You've got to give me something
00:31:36so I can hold out until we land.
00:31:38You understand?
00:31:39The automatic pilot will fly itself
00:31:41on this course,
00:31:41but I've got to take it in.
00:31:43Oh, watch the control.
00:31:45Get up, Mike.
00:31:48We've got to keep him warm.
00:31:51Doctor, can you do it?
00:32:09Can you help him make a landing?
00:32:11Stewardess.
00:32:12What's your first name?
00:32:13Janet.
00:32:15Well, Janet,
00:32:15you're a member of this crew.
00:32:17Can you face some unpleasant facts?
00:32:20I think so.
00:32:21All right.
00:32:22Unless I can get all these people
00:32:23to a hospital quickly,
00:32:24I can't even be sure
00:32:25of saving their lives.
00:32:26I don't understand.
00:32:28What is it?
00:32:28Well, something toxic
00:32:29in that food tonight.
00:32:30Some kind of bacteria poison.
00:32:31How did it get there?
00:32:33There are hundreds of ways.
00:32:34That's not important.
00:32:34What is important,
00:32:36these people need hospital facilities.
00:32:38Stimulants,
00:32:38intravenous treatment for shock.
00:32:40But the pilots...
00:32:41How are we going to land?
00:32:44Is there anybody else on board
00:32:45who can land this plane?
00:32:47There's no one on board
00:32:47from the airline.
00:32:48I don't know about anybody else.
00:32:49How many passengers are there?
00:32:50Thirty-eight.
00:32:52I think you ought to know
00:32:53what our chances are.
00:32:54The life of everybody aboard
00:32:55depends on just one thing.
00:32:57Finding someone back there
00:32:58who not only can fly this plane,
00:33:00but who didn't have fish for dinner.
00:33:03Well, I suppose I better begin asking.
00:33:05Wait.
00:33:06I don't want the passengers to know yet.
00:33:07It might start a panic.
00:33:08Well, what am I going to tell them?
00:33:09Tell them, uh...
00:33:11Tell them the first officer is sick
00:33:12and the captain wondered
00:33:13if there's someone with flying experience
00:33:15who can help with the radio.
00:33:16Do you understand, Janet?
00:33:19Yes, doctor.
00:33:20Okay.
00:33:21Excuse me, but the first officer is ill
00:33:36and the captain would like someone
00:33:38with flying experience
00:33:39to help him with the radio.
00:33:41Do you know anything about planes?
00:33:42I flew in the war,
00:33:44but that was a long time ago.
00:33:47I wouldn't know anything about it.
00:33:48Would you go up, please?
00:34:04The steward is set.
00:34:10But both pilots.
00:34:12Can you fly this airplane and land it?
00:34:14No, not a chance.
00:34:17Doctor, I ask everyone,
00:34:19Mr. Stryker's the only one.
00:34:21What flying experience have you had?
00:34:23I was a fighter pilot in the war,
00:34:25but I flew little combat planes with only one engine.
00:34:27This has four.
00:34:29There's no comparison.
00:34:31The flying characteristics are completely different.
00:34:33It's a different kind of flying altogether.
00:34:36Besides, I haven't touched any kind of a plane for ten years.
00:34:39Mr. Stryker, I know nothing about flying.
00:34:42All I know is this.
00:34:44You're the only person on this plane who can possibly fly it.
00:34:47You're the only chance we've got.
00:34:49Are you sure?
00:34:50What about the pilots?
00:34:52You're a doctor. Can't you do something?
00:34:54Unless I can get all these people to a hospital quickly,
00:34:56I can't be sure of saving their lives.
00:35:00Mr. Stryker, the same thing is true of your son.
00:35:07How long can they stay alive without help?
00:35:09Two hours, maybe. Two and a half at the most.
00:35:17What are you going to tell the people back there?
00:35:19Nothing yet.
00:35:20What are you going to tell the people back there?
00:35:21Nothing yet.
00:35:22I'm going to tell my wife something.
00:35:23She's expecting me back.
00:35:24What are you going to tell the people back there?
00:35:28I'm going to tell my wife something.
00:35:29She's expecting me back.
00:35:30She must be brought up here.
00:35:31She'll have to know about this.
00:35:32Janet, you better go and get her.
00:35:33Wait.
00:35:34What about our boy?
00:35:35Oh, I'll see that he's taken care of.
00:35:40Let's see.
00:35:41Altitude.
00:35:4210 feet.
00:35:4310 feet.
00:35:44I'm going to tell the people back there.
00:35:45What are you going to tell the people back there?
00:35:46Nothing yet.
00:35:47I'm going to tell my wife something.
00:35:48She's expecting me back.
00:35:49She must be brought up here.
00:35:50She'll have to know about this.
00:35:51Janet, you better go and get her.
00:35:52Wait.
00:35:53What about our boy?
00:35:54Oh, I'll see that he's taken care of.
00:35:56Let's see.
00:35:57Altitude.
00:35:5810 feet.
00:35:59Level flight.
00:36:00Air speed.
00:36:01140 knots.
00:36:02Course 290.
00:36:03Air on automatic pilot.
00:36:04Thank you for that.
00:36:05Proper controls.
00:36:062,000 rpm.
00:36:09Trim.
00:36:10speed, 140 knots, course 2-9-0.
00:36:17Your own automatic pilot, thankful for that.
00:36:22Proper controls, 2,000 RPM.
00:36:27Trim, mixture, landing gear.
00:36:33Flaps should be an indicator somewhere.
00:36:36There it is.
00:36:37I'll need a checklist for landing.
00:36:39Maybe we can get that on the radio.
00:36:41Doctor, did they say anything about the weather?
00:36:43The captain said we were near Calgary,
00:36:45but we couldn't land because of bad weather.
00:36:47Fog?
00:36:48Yeah, it's closed down everything around here,
00:36:49except we'd have to go through to Vancouver.
00:36:52Across the mountains?
00:36:53That's right.
00:36:54What about Vancouver? Is it clear at Vancouver?
00:36:57I think it will be by the time we get there.
00:36:59It's got to be.
00:37:07Ted, what are you doing?
00:37:09You can't fly this plane.
00:37:11That's what I've been trying to tell these people, Ellen.
00:37:13But they seem to have other ideas.
00:37:15Mrs. Stryker, I haven't time to put this gently,
00:37:17so I'll be very direct.
00:37:19Both pilots are sick.
00:37:20Every one of us on this plane is in a desperate situation.
00:37:23Yes, including your son.
00:37:25Your husband is the only hope we've got.
00:37:27But he's...
00:37:28If we're gonna come through this,
00:37:29he's gonna need some faith from all of us.
00:37:31Including you.
00:37:32Do I make myself clear, Mrs. Stryker?
00:37:38I understand.
00:37:39I'm gonna need someone to help me up here,
00:37:40to work the radio and a few other things.
00:37:42You're the only one of the crew left, stewardess.
00:37:44I'll need her with the passengers.
00:37:46Then get someone else.
00:37:47Well, the fewer people know about this, the better.
00:37:49Mrs. Stryker, you'd better stay with your husband.
00:37:51But Joe is so sick.
00:37:52No, you can do more here.
00:37:53I'll look after your boy.
00:37:55He's right, Ellen.
00:37:56Get in this seat and strap yourself in, will you?
00:37:59Ted, I don't know anything about all this.
00:38:02We're starting even.
00:38:03Hold on, I'm back now.
00:38:04Well, stewardess.
00:38:05You must have watched the pilots a lot.
00:38:07Do you know how the radio works?
00:38:09They've added a lot of gizmos since I did any flying.
00:38:12It's the panel down here they use.
00:38:14I know that.
00:38:15Where's the VHF?
00:38:18They do something with that thing up there.
00:38:21That's the frequency selected.
00:38:23We'd better leave that where it is.
00:38:25Oh, but they do something with a little knob.
00:38:27Oh, that's it.
00:38:28Transmit.
00:38:29This is flight 714, isn't it?
00:38:32Yes.
00:38:33I'd better go help the doctor.
00:38:35Mr. Stryker?
00:38:36Yes.
00:38:37Good luck.
00:38:38Thanks.
00:38:40Ellen, you'd better put on that other headset.
00:38:44Or I'm going to try to kid you, Ellen.
00:38:46This is going to be tough.
00:38:48So if you want to go back with the others...
00:38:51I'll stay.
00:38:54All right.
00:38:56Let's see.
00:38:57What do I do now?
00:38:58I'll call Mayday, I guess.
00:39:00What does that mean?
00:39:01It's a pilot's call for help when he's up against it.
00:39:04It takes precedence over anything else.
00:39:07Here goes.
00:39:09Mayday.
00:39:10Mayday.
00:39:11Mayday.
00:39:12Mayday.
00:39:13This is Cross Canada Charter.
00:39:15Flight...
00:39:16Flight 714.
00:39:17In distress.
00:39:18Come in, anyone.
00:39:19714.
00:39:20This is Calgary radio.
00:39:21Pass your message.
00:39:22Calgary to all stations.
00:39:23714.
00:39:24Called Mayday.
00:39:25Frequency 126.7.
00:39:26Now closed to all other traffic.
00:39:27My name is Ted Stryker.
00:39:28I'm a passenger on this airplane.
00:39:29Correction.
00:39:30I was a passenger.
00:39:31Where are the pilots?
00:39:32Both pilots are inferior to you.
00:39:33Mayday.
00:39:34Vancouver.
00:39:35This is Calgary.
00:39:36We're getting a Mayday from 714.
00:39:37It's coming in now.
00:39:38Right.
00:39:39Winnipeg.
00:39:40You on the line?
00:39:41714 called Mayday.
00:39:42No details yet.
00:39:43Get Ballard.
00:39:44Hold, please.
00:39:45714 called Mayday.
00:39:46Standby.
00:39:47714 called Mayday.
00:39:48Clear everything and hold all traffic.
00:39:49Right.
00:39:50But all my flying is safe.
00:39:51I'm not safe.
00:39:52I'm not safe.
00:39:53I'm not safe.
00:39:54I'm not safe.
00:39:55I'm safe.
00:39:56I'm safe.
00:39:57I'm safe.
00:39:58I'm safe.
00:39:59I'm safe.
00:40:00I'm safe.
00:40:01I'm safe.
00:40:02I'm safe.
00:40:03I'm safe.
00:40:04I'm safe.
00:40:05You're safe.
00:40:06I'm safe.
00:40:07I'm safe.
00:40:08But all my flying has been done in single-engine fighters.
00:40:11And also, I haven't done any flying for 10 years.
00:40:14So what you'd better do is get someone on this radio who can give me instructions in flying this plane and landing it.
00:40:20That's the story.
00:40:21It's your move down there.
00:40:27I want to take a bet that stirred up some excitement.
00:40:30Calgary 2714.
00:40:31Stand by, please.
00:40:33Okay.
00:40:34Tell Calgary to acknowledge and have him stand by.
00:40:35Tell him we're getting help.
00:40:36We'll be on the air with him as soon as we can.
00:40:37Winnipeg on the wire, Harry.
00:40:38Ballard says he'd know something about this man's striker.
00:40:39Perdic, yeah.
00:40:40Perdic, yeah.
00:40:41We'll do everything we can.
00:40:42We'll do everything we can.
00:40:43Yes, I understand.
00:40:45do everything we can.
00:40:46Yes.
00:40:47I understand.
00:41:04Burdick here.
00:41:09We'll do everything we can.
00:41:11Yes, I understand.
00:41:14Get every piece of emergency equipment you can reach.
00:41:16Alert it every mile of the way from here to the mountains.
00:41:18And I want every light you can get poured on that field.
00:41:21We might try praying a little too. They're gonna need it.
00:41:23Get me Captain Trello.
00:41:24Be clear what this man's strike on the war ballot tells me.
00:41:26Knows him inside out. We've got to have him.
00:41:28Then get me my office.
00:41:30How about some coffee, Johnny? Strong.
00:41:31We're office line four.
00:41:35Is that you, Max?
00:41:36I want a complete cockpit diagram for a DC-4 and a pre-landing flight check.
00:41:40I'm in the dispatch office and I want him over here fast.
00:41:42Right.
00:41:45Yeah.
00:41:46The last ETA we had was 02-15, local time.
00:41:49We'll want all air traffic cleared from this area.
00:41:51This guy doing the flying's had no airline experience at all.
00:41:55He'll be a menace to himself and everything else in the air.
00:41:58All right. Let's work for that.
00:42:01I'll call you if there's a change in time.
00:42:04It's gonna be a late night.
00:42:05Harry, Captain Trello is not in. I have his babysitter off.
00:42:07Okay. Get a police car and pick him up as soon as I locate him.
00:42:10This is the operations manager at the airport.
00:42:13Now, this is very important.
00:42:14Do you know where Captain Trello was going this evening?
00:42:16Can you please tell me where Captain Trello was going this evening?
00:42:24Oh, just a minute.
00:42:25What did you want?
00:42:25Please. This is urgent. Where is Captain Trello?
00:42:27Uh, I think they said they were going to the Hotel Vancouver.
00:42:31Yeah, uh, the Panorama Roof.
00:42:35Sure.
00:42:36Bye.
00:42:36What's the matter with them down there?
00:42:38Calgary, this is 714. Have you any message for me yet? Go ahead.
00:42:42Stand by, 714. Vancouver is doing everything possible. We'll be calling you very shortly.
00:42:47Okay. Look, Ellen, in a little while I'm gonna be pretty busy in here. You'd better take over the radio from here in.
00:42:55I'll be calling you very shortly.
00:42:56Okay.
00:42:57Look, Ellen, in a little while I'm gonna be pretty busy in here. You'd better take over the radio from here in.
00:43:01How will I know what to do? There's nothing to it. Just take that microphone up there. That's the one.
00:43:06Push that button on the side when you're ready to talk. I'll tell you what to say.
00:43:10Chief, this is Cross Canada Dispatcher. We have an emergency room.
00:43:13I'm going to be calling you very shortly.
00:43:15I'm going to be calling you very shortly.
00:43:17I'm going to be calling you very shortly.
00:43:19Okay.
00:43:21Look, Ellen, in a little while I'm gonna be pretty busy in here.
00:43:24You'd better take over the radio from here in.
00:43:26How will I know what to do?
00:43:27There's nothing to it. Just take that microphone up there.
00:43:29That's the one.
00:43:30We have an emergency on Flight 714 due here at 0215 local time.
00:43:34It may be a crash landing. Stand by with everything you've got.
00:43:36And alert the Air Force, too.
00:43:38And will you call the city fire department?
00:43:40They may want to move equipment into the area.
00:43:42Right. Got the city police?
00:43:44On your line now.
00:43:45This is Cross Canada Charter. Who is this police?
00:43:48Oh, Inspector. We're in bad trouble.
00:44:00And that's all we can now do.
00:44:04Have you told the brass yet?
00:44:34I've got a call in to Montreal now.
00:44:36I'm not going to like this.
00:44:37Well, that'll be a real help, won't it?
00:44:39We've got to get a statement to the press.
00:44:40Better get Cliff Howard here to handle it.
00:44:42Okay, and the boss on the line now, number three.
00:44:58No, sir, he isn't qualified.
00:44:59But I've got our senior captain coming in.
00:45:01He flew his striker in the war.
00:45:03Of course, it's a terrible risk.
00:45:04But can you think of something better?
00:45:07No, I haven't given any statement to the press.
00:45:09Howard's coming in for that.
00:45:10Harry.
00:45:12The ETA is 0215 Pacific Time.
00:45:17I've got a lot to do, sir.
00:45:18I'd better get on with it.
00:45:19I'll call you as soon as I know anything more.
00:45:21Bye.
00:45:23Well, that's the whole story, Martin.
00:45:24Everything we know.
00:45:26All right, Harry, let's face a few facts.
00:45:28As you know, I flew with this man striker during the war.
00:45:31What you don't know is, it doesn't make my job any easier here tonight.
00:45:35Frankly, I think you'd be a lot better off if you got somebody else who doesn't know him at all.
00:45:39I don't think that has anything to do with it.
00:45:41It has everything to do with it.
00:45:43In the first place, I think it's a mistake if he knows that I'm the man who's talking to men.
00:45:46He'll have a million things in his mind without being reminded of those days when things weren't so good.
00:45:51Right now, things aren't so good.
00:45:53And while we're talking, there are 38 lives waiting on us for a decision.
00:45:56Let me tell you something.
00:45:57Ted Stryker was a cracked flight leader up to a point.
00:46:00But he was one of those men who, well, let's just say he felt too much inside.
00:46:04Maybe you know the kind.
00:46:06Ate his heart out over every name on a casualty list.
00:46:08Well, what's wrong with that?
00:46:10I'll tell you what's the matter with that.
00:46:12He went all to pieces on one particular mission.
00:46:15But I've never felt there was the slightest excuse for it.
00:46:19The upshot of it all was that everything turned sour.
00:46:23He left some mighty fine men behind him.
00:46:26Now, I may be wrong.
00:46:27I hope I am.
00:46:28But my feeling is that when the going gets really rough upstairs tonight,
00:46:31Ted Stryker's gonna fold up.
00:46:33That's all I can tell you.
00:46:35Look, Martin.
00:46:36I want you to get on the horn and talk this guy down, no matter what you think.
00:46:39Now, you're gonna have to let him get the feel of this airplane on the way.
00:46:42You'll have to give him a landing check.
00:46:43You'll have to talk him on to the approach.
00:46:45And so, help me, you'll have to talk him right down to the ground.
00:46:49All right, Burdick.
00:46:50I just want you to know what we have to contend with.
00:46:54Very well, it's settled.
00:46:57Who's got the cigarettes?
00:46:58Here.
00:46:59Here.
00:47:00Thanks.
00:47:01Yeah.
00:47:02Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
00:47:04All right, let's get started.
00:47:05Can you work 714 direct now?
00:47:06Yeah, reception's good.
00:47:07We can take over anytime.
00:47:08Okay.
00:47:09Calgary Radio, Vancouver Radio.
00:47:10We'll work 714 ourselves now.
00:47:12714, this is Calgary Radio.
00:47:14Vancouver Radio is taking over now and will work you direct.
00:47:17Keep your transmitter at the same frequency.
00:47:18714, good luck.
00:47:19Over.
00:47:20Thanks, Calgary.
00:47:21714 standing by for Vancouver.
00:47:22The one hope we have is to build this man up.
00:47:23I've got to give him all the confidence I can along with the technical end of it.
00:47:24He keeps calm, cool.
00:47:25That's what I tell him, we'll bring that plane in.
00:47:26But above all else, I don't want him to know that I'm as full of doubts as I've got to admit I am.
00:47:27All right, let's go.
00:47:28Put Stryker on the speaker.
00:47:30Okay.
00:47:31Good luck. Over.
00:47:32Thanks, Calgary. 714, standing by for Vancouver.
00:47:36The one hope we have is to build this man up.
00:47:39I've got to give him all the confidence I can, along with the technical end of it.
00:47:43He keeps calm, cool. That's what I tell him, we'll bring that plane in.
00:47:47But above all else,
00:47:49I don't want him to know that I'm as full of doubts as I got to admit I am.
00:47:54All right, let's go. Put Striker on the speaker.
00:47:56Okay. You can use that hand mic there.
00:47:58Flight 714, this is Vancouver. Can you read?
00:48:01Go ahead.
00:48:02Here they are. I'll talk to them first.
00:48:04Yes, Vancouver. We read you. Go ahead, please.
00:48:07Okay, Captain. It's all yours.
00:48:11Hello, Flight 714. This is Vancouver.
00:48:14Striker?
00:48:16Striker, this is Captain Martin Trelevin speaking.
00:48:19If you read me, go ahead.
00:48:23Yes, Captain Trelevin.
00:48:25I read you loud and clear. Go ahead.
00:48:28All right. It's obvious you remember me.
00:48:30So what do you say you and I just forget about everything except what we have to do now?
00:48:34You and I are going to bring this plane in together.
00:48:37Before we start, I'd like to say something.
00:48:39I know that right now things must look pretty rough up there.
00:48:43But if you do what I tell you, when I tell you to do it, there's no reason you can't bring that plane in.
00:48:48Let's not kid each other, Trelevin. You know I've never flown a bucket like this.
00:48:53I haven't been at the controls for over ten years.
00:48:56I'm going to need all the luck there is, if that's all.
00:48:59All right, Striker. Now you listen to me and you listen close.
00:49:02You begin thinking that way and we're finished before we start.
00:49:05Flying is no different than riding a bicycle. It just happens to be something you never forget.
00:49:10Now, are you still an automatic pilot? Go ahead.
00:49:14Yes, we're still an automatic pilot.
00:49:16Very well.
00:49:18You just make yourself comfortable up there.
00:49:20In a minute, I'd like you to disengage the automatic pilot and begin to get the feel of the controls.
00:49:24But first, let me tell you, the controls will feel very heavy compared with the fighter.
00:49:29Don't worry about that. It's perfectly normal.
00:49:32You must watch your airspeed closely. Don't let it fall below 120.
00:49:36Now, I know you recognize the importance of that, but I would like to repeat it.
00:49:39Under no circumstances must you let that airspeed fall below 120 miles per hour.
00:49:44Now, there's one other thing.
00:49:46Have you someone up there who can work the radio and leave you free for flying?
00:49:51Yes, I have a...
00:49:54A passenger here with me who will take over the radio.
00:50:00All right. I'm going to unlock the automatic pilot.
00:50:09The radio's all yours now. Keep your eye on that airspeed.
00:50:14Listen, I've got a lot of work to do with this man,
00:50:16but we might as well start planning the approach and the landing while there's plenty of time.
00:50:19Get the chief radar operator up here, will you? Tell him I want to talk to him.
00:50:21Hello, Stryker. How are you making out? You got the feel of it yet?
00:50:24Tell him we're on manual now. We're trying out some shallow turns.
00:50:43I should have asked you this before. What kind of weather you in up there?
00:50:46Rain. And a little ice.
00:50:51And a little ice.
00:50:52Start your de-icers working.
00:50:54The control is on the fuse panel at your left knee.
00:51:01De-icer's on.
00:51:04Tell him we're coming into some heavy clouds and we'll be on instruments.
00:51:11How does she handle now, Stryker?
00:51:13Sluggish. Like a wet sponge.
00:51:17Sluggish. Like a wet sponge.
00:51:19Well, as I told you to begin with, that's perfectly natural
00:51:21because you're used to handling smaller airplanes.
00:51:23The radar chief's on his way up.
00:51:25Tell him to get the lead out.
00:51:26Hello, Stryker.
00:51:27Watch any violent movement of the controls like you used to make in Spitfires and Mustangs.
00:51:32If you do move the controls violently, you will overcorrect and be in trouble.
00:51:35Is that clear? Go ahead.
00:51:36Tell him I understand.
00:51:38Yes, Vancouver. He understands.
00:51:41Now I want you to try climbing.
00:51:44Leave your throttle the way it is.
00:51:45Bring your airplane to approach speed, which is 130.
00:51:49That should put you in a very gentle climb.
00:51:51But whatever else you do, watch that airspeed closely.
00:51:53Oh, we're going to crash.
00:51:55I know we are.
00:51:56Please, Mark.
00:51:57Be calm.
00:51:58The doctor will be here in a moment.
00:51:59See if we've leveled out again.
00:52:00Look.
00:52:01He'll be all right now.
00:52:02How are you feeling now?
00:52:03I feel terrible.
00:52:03I didn't need those pills to make me sick.
00:52:06And never mind tonight's dinner.
00:52:08Right now, I'm working on yesterday's breakfast.
00:52:10Would you keep him covered, Mrs. Summers?
00:52:12Hi, Joey.
00:52:13How's the boy?
00:52:14Your stomach's still hurting?
00:52:15Say, you know, Pat?
00:52:16You know, Pat?
00:52:17You know, Pat?
00:52:18You know, Pat?

00:52:20You know, Pat?
00:52:21You know, Pat?
00:52:22You know, Pat?
00:52:23You know, Pat?
00:52:24You know, Pat?
00:52:25You know, Pat?
00:52:26You know, Pat?
00:52:27You know, Pat?
00:52:28You know, Pat?
00:52:29You know, Pat?
00:52:30Your stomach's still hurting?
00:52:32Say, you know, Patty's been asking about you.
00:52:34Patty?
00:52:35Hey, Patty?
00:52:37There he is.
00:52:38Hiya, Patty.
00:52:39Say, you know, he doesn't look so good either.
00:52:41Patty, let me see your tongue.
00:52:43Now, come on.
00:52:44Let me see your tongue.
00:52:45Come on, now.
00:52:46Oh, you know, I've seen it look better.
00:52:49Patty, why don't you stay right here with Joey
00:52:52and he'll take good care of you?
00:52:54Okay.
00:52:55Okay.
00:52:56There you are.
00:52:57I'll just take you off here and you take good care of me.
00:53:00Joey.
00:53:01Put it right in there.
00:53:02Oh, that's good.
00:53:03Now, lift your hand up there and I'll show you how to do it.
00:53:06Hey, how are you, Patty?
00:53:08Fine.
00:53:09Okay.
00:53:10You two try to get some sleep.
00:53:12All right?
00:53:13We'll be there before you know it.
00:53:15Okay, Joey.
00:53:24As soon as he shows up on your radar,
00:53:25you can feed me the information and I'll reel him.
00:53:27How about the final approach?
00:53:28We'll handle that the same way.
00:53:30As soon as you have him in the scope and he's steady on the course,
00:53:32we'll move to the tower.
00:53:33You report up there,
00:53:34we'll decide on the runway and plan the final approach.
00:53:36Understood?
00:53:37Yes, sir.
00:53:38We're on top of the clouds at 11,000 feet.
00:53:47Leveled off.
00:53:48We're now on top of the clouds at 11,000 feet and we are leveled off.
00:53:53What is your present heading, Stryker?
00:53:57Well, and the compass is still about 2-9-0.
00:54:00The compass is still at 2-9-0.
00:54:03All right, try to stay on that heading.
00:54:05You may be a few miles off course,
00:54:07but we can correct that easily when you get in radar range.
00:54:09Right now, I want you to feel how the ship handles at lower speeds
00:54:13when the flaps and the gear are down.
00:54:15But don't do anything until I give you the word.
00:54:17Is that understood? Go ahead.
00:54:18Yes, we understand, Ben.
00:54:26All right, Stryker.
00:54:27The first thing is to throttle back slightly,
00:54:29get your airspeed steady at 120,
00:54:31and then tell me when you're ready.
00:54:33Keep your fingers crossed.
00:54:37Ellen, what's the airspeed?
00:54:38You'll have to call it off when we land,
00:54:39so you may as well start practicing now.
00:54:41140, 135, 130, 125, 120,
00:54:47steady at 120.
00:54:49Tell them.
00:54:50Hello.
00:54:51Our airspeed is now steady at 120.
00:54:53115, 110.
00:54:55That's too low.
00:54:56He's at 120.
00:54:57I know. I know what?
00:54:58115, 120.
00:55:04125, 120.
00:55:08Steady at 120.
00:55:09Tell them.
00:55:10Hello.
00:55:12Our airspeed is now steady at 120.
00:55:14Our airspeed is now steady at 120.
00:55:17Now, Stryker, I want you to put down 20 degrees of flap.
00:55:20Be careful not to make it any more.
00:55:22The flap handle is on the lower right-hand side of the control pedestal.
00:55:2520 degrees will be moving the handle down to the second notch.
00:55:29You'll have to put the flaps down, Ellen.
00:55:31There's the handle there.
00:55:32Can you see the flap indicator, Stryker?
00:55:34It's near the center of the main panel.
00:55:36There's the indicator he's talking about.
00:55:38When I tell you, put the handle down two notches,
00:55:41and watch that indicator.
00:55:43All right.
00:55:44Tell him we're going to put the flaps down now.
00:55:47We're going to put the flaps down now.
00:55:50Okay, 714.
00:55:51Go ahead with your flaps.
00:55:53Then, when they're down, get your airspeed steady at 120,
00:55:56adjust your trim, and call me once again.
00:55:5820 degrees of flap, Ellen.
00:56:00All right.
00:56:02The flaps are down, and the airspeed is steady at 120.
00:56:14All right, Stryker.
00:56:15The next thing is to drop your gear,
00:56:17and then you'll have the feel of the ship as it'll be when you're landing.
00:56:20Are you still in level flight?
00:56:22By any remote chance.
00:56:24More or less.
00:56:24Ask him about prop controls and the mixture.
00:56:34Vancouver, what about prop controls and the mixture?
00:56:39Well, at least he's thinking, anyway.
00:56:41Never mind that for the time being, Stryker.
00:56:43Just concentrate on holding that airspeed steady with your flaps and gear down.
00:56:47Okay, Ellen.
00:56:49Put the gear down.
00:56:51Call for that airspeed.
00:56:53Okay, Stryker, your gear should be down by now.
00:57:10Look for three green lights to show you that it's locked.
00:57:13Also, there's a hydraulic pressure gauge just above the three green lights,
00:57:16and that needle should be in the green range.
00:57:18Three green lights.
00:57:21The pressure is up.
00:57:23Tell him the gear and the flaps are down.
00:57:25She's still handled like a wet sponge, only more so.
00:57:28The gear and the flaps are down now,
00:57:30but he says that she still handles like a wet sponge, only more so.
00:57:34You'll get used to that.
00:57:36Now I'm gonna give you instructions for holding your altitude and airspeed steady
00:57:40while you raise the landing gear and flaps.
00:57:42Then we'll run through the whole thing again.
00:57:44Again?
00:57:45Look, Trelevin, I'm giving you all I've got the first time.
00:57:50So don't expect me to sit up here and go through a lot of dry runs.
00:57:53Are you gonna bring that plane in alone or could you still use a little help?
00:57:55He's up, Martin.
00:57:56He's up, Martin.
00:58:01All right, Stryker, get a hold of yourself.
00:58:03We don't have long to go now.
00:58:04Sorry.
00:58:05Sorry.
00:58:09I'm sorry.
00:58:11Let's go.
00:58:41Ted, look at the speed, look at the speed, Ted, we're falling, Ted, we're falling.
00:59:11I'm going to get out of here.
00:59:14I'm going to get out of here.
00:59:18Come on! Dad, come on!
00:59:31I've got to get out of here! I've got to get out of here!
00:59:38I've got to get out of here! I've got to get out of here!
00:59:43Look, he is my pilot.
00:59:48Now you know. Mr. Stryker is the only person aboard who can fly this plane.
00:59:55He was a pilot in the war, and we can all help him by not getting in a panic.
00:59:59We all know there are dangers involved, but is there anyone here who'd like to take his place?
01:00:10They've faded out completely. Aren't you getting anything?
01:00:14714. 714.
01:00:18814.
01:00:21814.
01:00:25Hello, Vancouver.

01:01:27Are you getting anything yet?
01:01:28No.
01:01:31Harry, they won't leave without a statement from you.
01:01:52You've got a runaway plane loose up there. That's what it comes down to, doesn't it?
01:01:55The fact is, this plane could crash anywhere in the city.
01:01:57Into homes, factories, anywhere. Isn't that true?
01:02:00Right now, we can't be sure of anything. We're doing everything we can.
01:02:30We're doing everything we can.
01:02:36Repeating 714. This is Vancouver. Vancouver calling 714.
01:02:42Come in.
01:02:45Flight 714. This is Vancouver. Do you hear me? Come in, please.
01:02:48Vancouver. We're reading you again. Come in, please.
01:02:51What happened? Are you all right?
01:02:52We stalled. The radio went off, but we're all right now.
01:02:54We're climbing.
01:02:55All right, Stryker. Here's what you must do next.
01:02:57Take a look at your fuel tank gauges. Give me their exact reading.
01:02:59Can't take much more of this. Johnny, how about some more coffee?
01:03:04Johnny, how about some more coffee?
01:03:05I'm not going to go.
01:03:07I'm not going to go.
01:03:08I'm not going to go.
01:03:09I'm going to go.
01:03:10I'm not going to go.
01:03:11All right, Stryker. Here's what you must do next.
01:03:13Take a look at your fuel tank gauges. Give me their exact reading.
01:03:15I can't take much more of this.
01:03:16Johnny, how about some more coffee?
01:03:17Hello?
01:03:34Mrs. Wilson?
01:03:35Yes, this is Mrs. Wilson.
01:03:38This is John Arnold calling from the airport.
01:03:40There's some trouble on your husband's flight.
01:03:42We don't know yet how serious it is, but Harry Ballard thought you'd want to get down here right now.
01:03:45but Harry Ballard thought you'd want to get down here right away.
01:03:48Yes, I'll be there right away.
01:04:09Captain Wilson hasn't come out of it at all.
01:04:12None of them have.
01:04:15And Joey's words.
01:04:23Vancouver.
01:04:24We've got to start down, Mom.
01:04:26Not just yet.
01:04:27We'll have you on radar any second now.
01:04:35I don't understand it.
01:04:37He should have been arranged ten minutes ago.
01:04:39Don't forget, he lost a lot of time.
01:04:40We don't know how far off course he went.
01:04:42Radar, you getting anything?
01:04:43Hold it. Hold it a minute.
01:04:45This may be something coming up.
01:04:48Yeah, I have him now.
01:04:51He's ten miles south of course.
01:04:54Tell him to turn right onto a heading of 305.
01:04:58Nice work.
01:04:59Now, Stryker, we have you on radar now.
01:05:01You're off course ten miles to the south.
01:05:04Please turn right onto a new heading of 305.
01:05:05Then, when you're ready, start losing altitude.
01:05:08Tell him we're on the new course and ready now to lose altitude.
01:05:24Hello, Vancouver.
01:05:25We're now on the new course and ready to lose altitude.
01:05:29All right, throttle back slightly, but hold your airspeed steady until you're losing altitude at 100 feet a minute.
01:05:35Watch your instruments closely.
01:05:37You'll have to trust them all the way.
01:05:39How long, you figure, before the landing?
01:05:41I don't know.
01:05:42What luck about?
01:05:44I'll say 30 minutes.
01:05:45Harry, call the tower, will you?
01:05:46Tell him we may need a double emergency crew on this one.
01:05:48Make sure those hospital units are standing by.
01:05:50Get me to the fire department and the city police.
01:05:51Also, I want all traffic blocked off from this airport.
01:06:05Now, here are the runways.
01:06:08We have apartment buildings here, there, and there.
01:06:11Actually, what we'll have to do is alert the entire area.
01:06:14So contact all fire departments, emergency equipment, the works.
01:06:18There's no telling where this plane might come down.
01:06:21Here are the banner sheets.
01:06:34We're ready to roll either way.
01:06:42Ted, I'd like to go back and see Joy again for just a minute.
01:06:45All right.
01:06:45This would be a good time.
01:06:46She's holding fairly steady right now.
01:06:51I'm going to tell you, Mr. Stryker.
01:07:08We're running out of time.
01:07:10How soon do you think we'll be landing?
01:07:11Well, I really don't know, but we're getting close.
01:07:14Well, I better go and talk to your husband.
01:07:15Please, God.
01:07:23Will the hospital equipment be at the airport?
01:07:25Yes, everything they've got.
01:07:27The captain wants to talk to the stewardess.
01:07:30They want to talk to the stewardess.
01:07:32I'll get off.
01:07:34Excuse me.
01:07:36714, stand by.
01:07:39How is he?
01:07:41Still unconscious.
01:07:43The doctor says everybody...
01:07:46I know. He told me.
01:07:49Ellen, we're going to make it.
01:07:52You've got to believe that.
01:07:56They want to talk to you, stewardess.
01:07:58There's a headset there.
01:08:00I've got it.
01:08:01They've got the stewardess.
01:08:02All right, what's the girl's name?
01:08:03Janet Turner.
01:08:05How are you, Janet?
01:08:06This is Captain Drew Levin here.
01:08:08Janet, when we make this landing,
01:08:10I want you to use emergency crash procedures
01:08:12for protection of passengers, understand?
01:08:14Tell them I understand.
01:08:15Yes, she understands.
01:08:17That's fine.
01:08:19Just before the landing,
01:08:20I'll ask the pilot to ring the emergency bell.
01:08:22Now, the button for that bell
01:08:23is right over the co-pilot's seat.
01:08:25There it is.
01:08:26You see it, Ellen?
01:08:27Remember it.
01:08:28That'll be your warning for final precautions.
01:08:30Oh, stewardess.
01:08:31Yes.
01:08:32Are the pilots strapped to seats?
01:08:33Yes.
01:08:34Good luck back there.
01:08:35We'll be ready.
01:08:36We'll be ready.
01:08:4529 miles from the field.
01:08:47Turn left onto 300.
01:08:50All right, Stryker.
01:08:52Change your heading slightly.
01:08:54Turn left onto 300.
01:08:56What is your altitude?
01:08:57Altitude is 2,500.
01:08:59Bad news.
01:09:00The fog's getting thicker.
01:09:02There's nothing we can do about that.
01:09:04Tell the tower to light up.
01:09:05Put on everything they've got.
01:09:07We'll be coming up there in a minute.
01:09:08I'll want their radio on the same frequency as this.
01:09:10Stryker won't have time to fool around changing channels.
01:09:12Right.
01:09:13All right.
01:09:14Listen!
01:09:15You!
01:09:16I'm following me.
01:09:17I'm trying to help.
01:09:18I won't let me go!
01:09:19All right.
01:09:20Leave her to people.
01:09:21All right.
01:09:22Now listen to me.
01:09:23Listen!
01:09:24Calm down.
01:09:25Relax.
01:09:26Come on now.
01:09:27Oh, Tony.
01:09:28I'm all right.
01:09:29It's just everything at once.
01:09:31Here.
01:09:32Drink this.
01:09:33Come on.
01:09:34Drink it.
01:09:35Come on.
01:09:36Remind me never to travel this airline again.
01:09:37I have terrible coffee.
01:09:38I'll get you the best coffee in Vancouver just as soon as we land.
01:09:39Tony, I'm sorry about what I said to you before.
01:09:40I forget it.
01:09:41You know, honestly, I couldn't have done it without you.
01:09:43You know, I'd like it to go on that way for at least the next hundred years.
01:09:44Oh, me too.
01:09:45Oh, me too.
01:09:46You are now approximately nine minutes from the airport.
01:09:47Are you ready to begin your final descent?
01:09:48Tell him we're on top of the overcast.
01:09:49Nothing but fog below.
01:09:50Not a break in it anywhere.
01:09:52I'm sorry.
01:09:53I'm sorry.
01:09:54I'm sorry.
01:09:55I'm sorry.
01:09:56I'm sorry.
01:09:57I'm sorry.
01:09:58I'm sorry.
01:09:59I'm sorry.
01:10:00I'm sorry.
01:10:01I'm sorry.
01:10:02I'm sorry.
01:10:03I'm sorry.
01:10:04I'm sorry.
01:10:05I'm sorry.
01:10:06I'm sorry about what I said to you before.
01:10:07I forget it.
01:10:08You know, honestly, I couldn't have done it without you.
01:10:10You know, I'd like it to go on that way for at least the next hundred years.
01:10:13Oh, me too.
01:10:14We're on top of the overcast.
01:10:15There's not a break in it anywhere.
01:10:16No, this would be a tough landing for anybody to make.
01:10:21Maybe if we hold them off for a bit, we'll get a break in the weather.
01:10:25All right, Stryker, you better stay up there for a bit.
01:10:29Keep circling.
01:10:30We got everything else out of the air so you won't have too much trouble.
01:10:32As soon as the fog lifts, we'll bring you in.
01:10:35I'll take it out.
01:10:37No dice, Vancouver.
01:10:39I'm coming straight in now.
01:10:41Dr. Baird says the sick people are in critical condition and every minute counts.
01:10:45Don't be a fool, Stryker.
01:10:46You know what a landing like this means.
01:10:48You more than anybody.
01:10:51That's right.
01:10:52But we've got to come in.
01:10:53But he can't.
01:10:54Tell him he's got to stay up there.
01:10:56Let's face it, Harry.
01:10:57There's nothing we can do about it.
01:11:00All right, Stryker.
01:11:01Level off at 2,000 feet and wait for instructions.
01:11:03I'm going to the tower now so you won't hear from me for a bit.
01:11:05We'll decide on the runway to use at the last minute so you can land into the wind.
01:11:08But he can't bring it down in this soup.
01:11:10It's 100 to 1 anyway.
01:11:11I know, I know, but it's his ship now.
01:11:13His command.
01:11:15Stand by, Stryker.
01:11:16I'm going to the tower.
01:11:17And good luck.
01:11:19We're on our way up now.
01:11:33We're on our way.
01:11:34We're on our way.
01:11:35We're on our way.
01:11:36We're on our way.
01:11:37We're on our way.
01:11:38Runway 9.
01:11:39It's the longest and pretty well into the wind.
01:11:42Radar.
01:11:43Yes, Captain.
01:11:44This is the way we'll handle it.
01:11:45Right now, he's here.
01:11:46I'll turn him so he begins to make a wide right-hand circle.
01:11:49At the same time, bring him down to 1,000 feet.
01:11:52I'll start the pre-landing check here, then have him make a slow turn on to final.
01:11:55Is that clear?
01:11:56Yeah.
01:11:57The phone hooked up to radar.
01:11:58Right there, sir.
01:11:59How do I talk to the field?
01:12:01I'll just flip that speaker on, sir.
01:12:05Tower to all emergency vehicles.
01:12:07Runway is 9.
01:12:09Airport tenders take positions number 1 and 2.
01:12:12Civil equipment number 3.
01:12:14Air force positions number 4 and 5.
01:12:16All ambulances to position 3.
01:12:19714.
01:12:20This is Trelevin and Vancouver Tower.
01:12:21Are you ready to line up for the landing?
01:12:23Okay, Vancouver.
01:12:24We're ready.
01:12:25Harry.
01:12:27Your cigarette now?
01:12:28Joe.
01:12:29I thought you'd like to know the latest.
01:12:31Now, your husband and the others are alive, but unconscious.
01:12:35Now, there's a good chance we can save them if Stryker can get this plane down in time.
01:12:39That isn't really much of a chance, is it?
01:12:41It's the only one we've got.
01:12:43Eight miles.
01:12:45Turn right to heading 080.
01:12:48Stryker, after this message, do not acknowledge any further transmissions unless you want to ask a question.
01:12:53You are now eight miles from the airport.
01:12:55Turn right to a heading of 080.
01:12:57Throttle back slightly and begin to lose altitude to 1,000 feet.
01:13:00I just want to tell you both good luck.
01:13:02I'll keep your son with me.
01:13:05Thanks, Doctor.
01:13:06All right.
01:13:07Hold your air speed steady at 120.
01:13:09Tell him we're at 1,000 feet and leveling off.
01:13:12We're now at 1,000 feet and leveling off.
01:13:16Now, set your mixture controls and order rich.
01:13:18That is, in the top position.
01:13:20Close four levers, Ellen.
01:13:21Pull them all the way up.
01:13:23All right, Stryker, put down 20 degrees of flap.
01:13:2820 degrees of flap.
01:13:2920 degrees of flap, Ellen.
01:13:35When your flaps are down, retrim for level flight.
01:13:46He's all over the place.
01:13:47900 feet up to 1,300 feet.
01:13:49Watch your altitude, Stryker.
01:13:50It's too erratic.
01:13:51Try to hold steady at 1,000 feet.
01:13:53Any break in the fog up there?
01:13:58No, nothing yet.
01:13:59I can't see a thing.
01:14:05Keep checking those instruments.
01:14:06You'll have to trust them all the way.
01:14:23Close up.
01:14:24Stay in formation.
01:14:25Target's just ahead.
01:14:26Target should be clear if you go in low enough.
01:14:29You'll have to decide.
01:14:39Come on, Jack.
01:14:40We're too low!
01:14:42Stryker!
01:14:43Stryker, can you hear me?
01:14:44You've got to keep her up.
01:14:45Keep her up!
01:14:46Stryker, get your altitude back.
01:14:47You need 1,000 feet.
01:14:50He's dropping off fast.
01:14:52Almost 700.
01:14:53Stryker, get back to 1,000 feet.
01:14:59Captain, he's below 700 now, and he's still going down.
01:15:02Stryker, you can't come straight in.
01:15:03You've got enough fuel left for two hours flying.
01:15:06You've got to stay up there till we get a break in the weather.
01:15:09I'll take it, Ellen.
01:15:11Listen, Trelevin.
01:15:12I'm coming in, do you hear me?
01:15:13I'm coming in right now.
01:15:14We have people up here, including my own son,
01:15:16who'll die in less than one hour, never mind two.
01:15:18I may bend your precious airplane, but I'll bring it down.
01:15:21Now get on with a landing check.
01:15:23I'm putting the gear down now.
01:15:35Ted.
01:15:36Yes?
01:15:37I just wanted you to know now.
01:15:40I'm very proud.
01:15:45Tell them the gear is down and we're ready to land.
01:15:47He may not be able to fly, but he's sure got guts.
01:15:54Keep your heading steady on zero nine zero.
01:15:56Increase your throttle settings slightly to hold your airspeed.
01:15:58Advance your prop controls so that you're getting a reading of 2250 RPM on each engine.
01:16:032250 RPM.
01:16:04He's still dropping.
01:16:08Just under 600.
01:16:10550.
01:16:11500.
01:16:12500.
01:16:13Striker, you're too low.
01:16:14Still on 140.
01:16:15Altitude steady at 500.
01:16:16He's right on the heading.
01:16:17All right.
01:16:18He's on final now.
01:16:19Put out all the runway lights except number nine.
01:16:21Turn on your landing light, Striker.
01:16:22Turn on your landing light, Striker.
01:16:23You're too low.
01:16:24Still on 140.
01:16:25Can you find the switch?
01:16:26No.
01:16:27No.
01:16:28No.
01:16:29No.
01:16:30No.

01:16:50No.
01:16:52Look.
01:16:53Look.
01:16:54Follow me.
01:16:55Hi.
01:16:56Watch out, love.
01:16:57Stop.
01:16:58All right, now listen carefully.
01:17:04You should be able to see the runway at 300 feet.
01:17:07Aim to touch down a third of the way along.
01:17:09There's a slight crosswind from the right, so be ready for it.
01:17:11If you land too fast, use your emergency brakes.
01:17:13The red handle is right in front of you.
01:17:16If that doesn't stop, you'll cut the four ignition switches over the co-pilot's head.
01:17:20You see them, Ellen?
01:17:22Uh-huh.
01:17:22If I want them off, it'll be in a hurry.
01:17:24So don't waste any time about it.
01:17:25All right.
01:17:26Now, Stryker, hold your present heading.
01:17:28Put down full flap, bring your airspeed back to 110, adjust your trim, and start easing her down.
01:17:34Everything ready on the field?
01:17:35Ready as we'll ever be.
01:17:37Give me altitude and speed.
01:17:38400 feet, speed 115.
01:17:40350, speed 110.
01:17:42Do you see us now?
01:17:44You should be able to see the field now.
01:17:58There he is.
01:18:19I know, I know. Keep watching.
01:18:21300, speed 125.
01:18:23300, speed 130.
01:18:25Dregger, now listen to me.
01:18:27You're coming down too fast.
01:18:31Sound your alarm bell now.
01:18:35All right.
01:18:37You're coming down too fast.
01:18:43Sound your alarm bell now.
01:18:45All right, everybody get in crash position.
01:18:53Put your heads down. Everybody put your heads down.
01:18:57Now let down. Easy.
01:19:05Watch your nose. It's too low. You're coming in too hot.
01:19:07Remember your brakes and switches. Get ready to flare it up.
01:19:11Stop.
01:19:13You're coming in too fast.
01:19:17Now these are down. Down.
01:19:23Left the nose. Trattle back.
01:19:29The brakes. Pull that right handle.
01:19:31The brakes.
01:19:41Cut the grid.
01:19:45Hold her steady.
01:20:01Everything's all right back here, thanks to you.
01:20:13And we're in time.
01:20:13Oh, my God.
01:20:15Thanks.
01:20:18Spreaker, Spreaker, you all right?
01:20:23Okay.
01:20:24Ted, Ted, that was probably the lousiest landing in the history of this airport.
01:20:31But some of us here, particularly me, would like to buy you a drink and shake your hand.
01:20:39We're coming over.
01:21:01We're coming over.
01:21:09We're coming over.
01:21:10We're coming over.
