00:00Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is set to headline the Super Bowl 60 halftime show,
00:04but his upcoming performance is already causing a political uproar.
00:08According to Wired, the NFL confirmed that Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martinez-Ocasio,
00:14the world's most streamed artist from 2020 to 2022, will take the stage this February.
00:20Dubbed the King of Latin Trap, Bad Bunny is credited with helping Spanish-language rap music
00:24achieve mainstream popularity in the worldwide market. But the rapper's announcement quickly
00:29turned into a cultural war flashpoint. Right-wing commentators, including Benny Johnson from The
00:35Benny Show, accused Ocasio of being, quote, anti-ice and anti-Trump, citing the music producer's past
00:41criticism of U.S. immigration policy and Bad Bunny's decision to skip mainland tour dates over
00:47concerns that ICE raids could target his fans. While Homeland Secretary security Kristi Noem also
00:53weighed in, telling Benny Johnson on his podcast that ICE agents, quote, will be all over that place,
00:58adding that people should not attend the event unless they are, quote,
01:02law-abiding Americans who love this country. But the Bad Bunny backlash didn't stop there.
01:07The Hill reports that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called for Congress to make
01:11English the official language of the United States. Her recent push comes after Bad Bunny
01:16appeared on SNL this weekend.
01:18Demostrando que nuestra huella y nuestra aportacion en este país nadie nunca la podrá sacar ni borrar.
01:23If you didn't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.
01:32In a post on X, Greene slammed the Bad Bunny halftime show, calling it, quote,
01:36perverse and unwanted. But not everyone agrees with the outrage. According to The Breakfast Club,
01:42Charlamagne Tha God questioned why people were this upset now, asking if critics had the same
01:47energy when J-Lo and Shakira performed at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.
01:51J-Lo sings in English, though.
01:53Well, I don't know. I didn't know Bad Bunny didn't sing in English. I don't listen to Bad Bunny's music,
01:57but I do know one thing about Bad Bunny. He's one of the biggest artists in the world.
02:00And that's what the Super Bowl is about. The Super Bowl is about putting the biggest artists in the
02:04world on that stage.
02:05As for the NFL, they have not commented on the political fallout. But according to Wired,
02:10the decision to have Bad Bunny perform at the halftime show is a part of its ongoing
02:14partnership with Roc Nation led by Jay-Z. The partnership is reportedly aimed at making
02:18halftime shows more global and inclusive. Share your thoughts and follow us everywhere at What's Trending.
