00:00Zach Bryan, who is one of the biggest stars and really a huge country base,
00:06could get Dixie-chicked, and it has to do with a new song about ice.
00:13Yes, the song, by the way, they're the chicks now.
00:17But I know what you meant.
00:18Oh, yes.
00:19Well, no.
00:19Could get chicked.
00:20Nope, but when it happened, they were the Dixie-chicked.
00:22They were the Dixie-chicks.
00:23So I think I was correct.
00:24Okay, you are, we will allow it.
00:25But yes, Zach Bryan had a song when he posted it, he posted a clip of it on social media.
00:34It was unreleased at that point.
00:35We didn't know the title.
00:37Some outlets are now saying the title is Bad News.
00:40But this song is very much just about ice raids and kind of about police in general.
00:47This is what Zach is saying in the song.
00:50I heard the cops came.
00:53Cocky, ain't they?
00:55And ice is gonna come, but it's down your door.
01:00Try to build a house, no one builds no more.
01:02But I got a telephone.
01:05Kids are all scared and all alone.
01:09The bar stopped bumping the rocks, stopped rolling.
01:12My middle finger's rising, and it won't stop showing.
01:15Got some bad news.
01:17The fading of the red, white, and blue.
01:19The fading of the red, white, and blue.
01:23That's actually the caption that he put on the clip when he posted it.
01:26The song is more complicated, and we can get into why in a minute.
01:31But on the surface, this is a song that torches ice and what they're doing right now.
01:39He has a MAGA fan base.
01:42And I'm not saying it's his entire fan base, but it's a significant part of his base.
01:46It's just on the fact that he's a country star, right?
01:48And so you think that...
01:50I'm not saying that as shade.
01:51No, I don't.
01:51I'm just saying it as fact.
01:52But your point being that most country stars or country fans in the middle of the country
01:59are probably Republican.
02:01Yeah.
02:02Right?
02:03And I think, you know, they have been, that the immigration policy that Trump had during
02:10the election resonated.
02:12Right.
02:12So now the question, does he get boycotted?
02:16Are people going to be pissed off?
02:19Or does he go play a sold-out show in Chicago?
02:21Or does he buy a sold-out show in Chicago?
02:23I feel like he'd go to Soldier Field this weekend and probably draw quite a big crowd.
02:27That's right.
02:27I think this makes a lot of the people who love him love him more because he's not your
02:31heartland middle America kind of country singer.
02:33He's more like Johnny Cash, old school outlaw country.
02:37He hates authority.
02:38Remember in 2023, he got arrested for getting lippy with a cot.
02:41And he said, this is why everybody hates you.
02:43He just went off on authority.
02:44And then he apologized for that.
02:46But I think it's not...
02:47I mean, I think he has problems with ice, obviously.
02:48But I think he's got an issue with authority in general.
02:51He's always been that way.
02:52And that was the point I was making.
02:53Which is why his fans love him.
02:54That it's more complicated because it's not just ice.
02:58It has been law enforcement for him.
03:00That is a thread through just any authority.
03:02Anybody telling him what to do, he does not like.
03:04And that's why this is complicated.
03:06That doesn't come through in this song because it's not more general.
03:10It's really focused on...
03:10Well, we haven't heard the whole song yet.
03:12That's true.
03:13Yeah, who knows what the other verses are.
03:14I'm doubting it's like, and now let me talk about that.
03:17And actually, I think they're doing some great things.
03:19Yeah, I just can't imagine that.
03:20Interesting that the Department of Homeland Security, their statement about this was just
03:24stick to Pink Skies, which is his more friendlier song about kids going home for a parent's funeral.
03:29And it's more relatable to everyone.
03:31Sounds a little bit like shut up and sing.
03:33Shut up and sing.
03:34Shut up and sing.
03:34But also, better than, I don't know who Bad Bunny is.
03:39Because there's a whole other thing.
03:41I mean, that's kind of what Donald Trump said.
03:43So at least they're acknowledging they know who Zac Bryan is.
03:45And Pink Skies is a hit, but it's not his most famous song.
03:47So a little deeper cut.
03:49So does Zac Bryan, is he really in jeopardy of, as you put it, getting Dixie-chicked?
03:53Because his fan base, he has a big enough fan base that maybe he doesn't get hit that hard by it, right?
04:00And the only thing I'm thinking is, and I hope he doesn't get canceled for this, but you look at what happened with Bud Light.
04:08And all it took was a Kid Rock and a couple of others to kind of start shooting the can.
04:14And then all of a sudden, the snowball starts to roll downhill.
04:19And so you never know who's going to start this.
04:23But if it's somebody who's super influential on one side, who knows?
04:28But he doesn't seem to care about that.
04:29He does not care at all, which is why people love him.
04:31Well, hey, it's Buck in Nashville, where this is all exploding out here.
04:36Everybody's talking about it.
04:38I don't think Zac should be talking about politics, because this is a career killer.
04:43Why would he do this?
04:44This doesn't make any sense.
04:45He's not a big star.
04:47Why would he think he could bring people over with this song that is, it's really a depressing song.
04:53It doesn't further the conversation.
04:55He's talking about, beep, the police.
04:58That's all he's saying.
04:59And country music fans love the police.
05:01They love law enforcement.
05:02They're not going to stand for this.
05:04This is a career-ending type of move.
05:07I don't know who is managing him, but whoever told him he should do something like this, this is the dumbest thing.
05:13Nobody wants in country music to hear about, beep, the cops.
05:18But, Buck, I want to challenge you on two things you said there.
05:20To say that he's not a big star, I mean, he just played to 112,000 or something at Michigan Stadium.
05:27Biggest crowd for country music.
05:28And then to say that he's not going to bring anyone over, maybe he's not trying to bring anyone over, and he's just speaking how he feels in this song.
05:36And maybe it's not about converting anyone, just sharing his feelings.
05:40Well, and I think in country music you can have a conversation, like when Jason Aldean said, try that in a small town.
05:46That was opening up a conversation, I think.
05:48But this is not opening up a conversation.
05:50This is just like, ice is bad, the cops are going to break down your door, right?
05:55Try that in a small town was a call to arms.
05:58Yeah, that didn't feel like a conversation.
06:00That was a call to arms.
06:02It was like more of a warning than a conversation.
06:05Well, this one's even worse than that.
06:06I don't think that this one is going to do anything but ruin his career.
06:10Country music funds, I'm just saying, we don't want to hear about this stuff from country singers.
06:16And who would advise him to do that song?
06:18Hold on, but you heard it from Jason Aldean, right?
06:21I mean, Jason Aldean, you could say that song was political, but it was just on the other side.
06:25It was political.
06:27It was political, but I think that, you know, Jason Aldean is the bigger star.
06:30It was the right politics for the crowd.
06:33Way bigger than Zach Bryan.
06:34Zach Bryan is still building, he's still developing.
06:38Why would he even take a chance with something like this?
