'We demand the world to know who we are' – Thousands of Yazidis flock to Lalish Temple in Nineveh

Thousands of Yazidis from Iraq and abroad gathered at the sacred Lalish Temple in Nineveh province on Monday to mark the Jama Festival, the holiest celebration in the Yazidi religious calendar.

Footage shows people arriving at Lalish Temple to participate in celebrations and religious rituals, creating a vibrant atmosphere among the festival attendees.

A visitor from Syria described the festival venue as 'sacred.'

"Every Yazidi around the world dreams of coming to this land, meeting all the Yazidis here, and practising their own rituals," she commented.

Another visitor sent a message saying: "We demand the world to know who we are. [...] We are not asking for a state - we only want our human rights."

Another visitor to the Lalish Temple noted that the Jama Festival is one of the oldest celebrations in the Yazidi faith, observed annually from October 6 to 12.

He noted that more than 200,000 people are expected to attend the celebrations over the seven days, adding: "Lalish Temple brings together all Yazidis in this sacred place."

The Yazidi faith, believed to date back thousands of years, is among the world's oldest religions. Its followers are mainly based in northern Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, with smaller communities in Armenia.
