The latest Demos–PwC Good Growth for Cities Index reveals the UK’s top-performing cities based on jobs, crime, transport, and quality of life.

00:00The UK's best cities to live in have been revealed and there are some surprising results.
00:07Cities across the country were rated on a range of factors including crime,
00:11jobs, transport, work-life balance and the local environment.
00:16The 2025 Demos Good Growth for Cities Index ranks 50 UK cities excluding London,
00:24with positive scores showing above average performance and negative scores showing below
00:30average. This year's table includes some big movers including one city that stands out for
00:36its strong work-life balance. Here's the countdown of the top five. In fifth place Swindon with a score of 0.57
00:46In fourth place Exeter with a score of 0.61
00:57Third place goes to Bristol with 0.62
01:05Edinburgh takes second with 0.63
01:08And at the top of the list York with a score of 0.73 up from 0.54 last year.
