00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Secretary of Justice Jesus Crispin Boying Rimulya
00:07as the new Ombudsman of the Republic of the Philippines
00:09following the completion of the term of the Honorable Samuel R. Martires in July.
00:17Secretary Rimulya has served as the 59th Secretary of Justice since June 2022.
00:23Under his leadership, the Department of Justice advanced major reforms
00:28to modernize the justice system, decongest prisons, accelerate case resolution,
00:34and expand access to legal services.
00:38His decades of service as a legislator, governor, and lawyer have earned him broad respect
00:44for his integrity and commitment to public service.
00:48The administration remains firm in its commitment to fight corruption wherever it exists
00:55as Ombudsman Rimulya is expected to uphold transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures,
01:02and ensure that justice is administered fairly and efficiently.
01:07There will be no sacred dows, no exemptions, and no excuses.
01:11Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable.
01:16President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirms that transparency, fairness, and the rule of law
01:23will remain the guiding principle of this administration's pursuit of a bagong Filipinas
01:29that truly serves the Filipino people.
01:32There's always a process, and a very stringent process required under our Constitution,
01:38and then Secretary Ramunio went through that process, and he was vetted by the JBC
01:45and appointed by the President.
01:47So I don't believe there is basis to that concern.
01:52I wouldn't say that he's the most controversial.
01:54As I said, there is a vetting process which is provided for by our Constitution and our laws,
02:01and he went through that very rigorous process, selection process, which started with the JBC.
