Timothy Gaston clashing with chairwoman Caral Ni Chuilin at Stormont on October 6, 2024, and being told to resume his seat for 'disrespecting' the rules
Transcript
00:00Today while we rightly think of what could have happened but for the prompt action of
00:06the security forces and in particular the British army bomb squad my mind turns back
00:14to the events on this very day exactly half a century ago the 6th of October 1975.
00:23On that date 45 year old RUC Detective Constable David Smith Love responded to reports of a robbery at a bar on the Dengiven Road three miles outside Limavady.
00:38The criminals held staff and customers at gunpoint and demanded the contents of the till.
00:46Timothy I appreciate your trying to expand this because of the date that other people lost their lives but I would respectfully ask you to return to the content which is central to the matters of the day please thank you.
01:02The principal deputy speaker Nat was bringing me back to where I was going on my next paragraph and as the men fled they told the barman they had left a 10 pound bomb which would go off in 10 minutes.
01:14Timothy, Timothy, if you don't, very relevant to what we have, we have the hypocrisy of Sinn Féin, they're experiencing today what they inflicted in many people up and down this country through their years of terrorism.
01:30Timothy, take your seat, take your seat, thank you.
01:32The principal deputy speaker I'd like you to let me finish what was going to say.
01:36I think you've exhausted your opportunity to speak so take your seat.
01:41I strongly disagree. Sinn Féin are feeling today what they inflicted in many people over the years.
01:46Okay, you're challenging the speaker, please take your seat.
01:48Timothy, okay.
01:50Timothy, please.
01:52If you insist, if you insist, there will be consequences.
01:57So thank you very much.
01:58I'm now going to move on to Gerry Carl.
02:00The climate in which this attack took place also needs to be acknowledged.
02:06For years, anti-Israeli protests have featured anti-Semitic slogans and placards perpetrating harmful Jewish stereotypes.
02:17Even after Thursday, that rhetoric didn't stop.
02:22On Friday, I wrote to the Chief Constable after being advised that on a legal roadblock at York Street, there were chants of we got to shame.
02:33I regret that members of this House, including a member for South Belfast and the Alliance Party, ought to contextualise these illegal protests.
02:45Decency should have kept the protesters in the House on Thursday evening of all nights.
02:52And it's shameful that the member for South Belfast couldn't even bring herself to say that.
02:58Let us also recall that just last week, a member's statement was used by a member, by the member for West Belfast to laud kneecap.
03:08After the case against one of their number collapsed.
03:11Timothy, Timothy.
03:12What were they accused of?
03:13The principal deputy speaker.
03:14Timothy.
03:15The displaying a Hezbollah flag.
03:16Timothy.
03:17Take your seat.
03:18Take your seat.
03:19It seems, principal deputy speaker, you want to hear from people that-
03:21Take your seat.
03:23Take your seat.
03:24Take your seat.
03:25Take your seat.
03:26Take your seat.
03:27Take your seat.
03:29Take your seat.
03:30Take your seat.
03:31Take your seat.
03:32Take your seat.
03:33Okay.
03:34Well, that's your opinion.
03:35But can I just say this?
03:37Order.
03:38Everybody.
03:39Please.
03:40Can I just say this?
03:41You brought this very important matter of the day to the House.
03:45Excuse me.
03:46Have a bit of manners.
03:48Have a bit of manners, please.
03:49And let me finish my point.
03:51And you're the one who disrespected the rules.
03:56And I am seriously advising you to think again.
04:01Because this should have been about the attacks in Manchester.
04:05Rather than you using your statement to attack other members of this House.
04:10So I'm going to move on to Declan Kearney.
