00:20Sustainable travel means more than just visiting places.
00:23It is slowing down, connecting with nature,
00:27respecting traditions and leaving a light footprint.
00:31In Uzbekistan's Navoi region, those values are alive.
00:35Sentob, a village near the Nurata mountains and the Kizilcum desert,
00:40was recognized by the World Tourism Organization as one of the best tourist villages in the world.
00:46It provides an authentic cultural experience focused on sustainability and the preservation of national values.
00:53The road turns into a path and the path into open sky.
00:58Here, you measure time by footsteps and flocks, not by hours.
01:03In Sentob, tourists can stay in family-run guest houses,
01:08participate in cooking classes,
01:10feel the warmth of the local people and spend time in nature.

01:28After a one hour drive in the desert, travelers discover Nurata city.
01:33In the center of Nurata stands the sacred Chasma Spring,
01:38a medieval pilgrimage site connected to Hasratali,
01:41where mineral waters feed pools filled with hundreds of holy trout.
01:46But one of the most important places of the city is the fortress,
01:50strongly connected with the ancient Greek presence in this area.
01:54Nur Fortress is said to have been built by Alexander the Great in the 4th century before Christ,
02:01which makes it one of the most ancient monuments in Uzbekistan.
02:05It was an important location for defending Samarkand against nomadic raiders from the north.
02:11The name Nur means light and it was on the main caravan route from Samarkand to Buhara.
02:17Nurata was also one of the leading centers of artistic embroidery in the 19th century.
02:24A new generation of embroiderers preserve these traditions.

02:56These stones are older than memory,
02:58etched with hunters, animals and shams that watched over bronze age lives.
03:04The Samir Shai tract, less than 50 km north east of Navoe city,

03:22The stones of Samir Shai whisper the voices of our ancestors,
03:27while the yurts by Aydarkul Lake carry their spirit into today's nomadic life.
03:32The area is perfect for resting, walking, swimming or simply taking a boat ride.
03:39Visitors can choose between modern yurts with all amenities and the traditional ones.

04:04Among the most memorable experiences is a camera safari across the desert.
04:08As dinner is prepared, smoke rises into the fading sunset,
04:13and later travelers gather by the fire,
04:16wrapped in the music of traditional songs under the night sky.

04:32As voices rise with the flames, the stars feel close enough to touch.
04:37People around the fire in this fairy-tailed place become more relaxed.
04:42They enjoy the power of the nature,
04:44and they leave all the cruelty of their everyday life behind.
