Health sector reform is one of the items high on the agenda for stakeholders... and one which the Trinidad and Tobago National Nurses Association says the public healthcare sector is in dire need of.
Transcript
00:00The association is looking forward to the government's own promises it would have made
00:05in its manifesto and previously and previous commitments given by several successive governments
00:11since health sector reform and that promise of creating a national health insurance system.
00:19This will allow the public health care system to have its own funding sources and not have to be
00:28totally reliant on the subvention from the government which is often fluctuates and it is
00:36placed in a predicament whenever there is some other major issue on the agenda.
00:44The temptation by successive governments to tap in to that finance being given to health care
00:52and be redirected to some other purpose.
00:56So this is why we are seeing similar to what property tax would have envisioned, where
01:02property tax would have gone direct to the corporations, the regional corporations, so
01:07too it is envisioned that this national health insurance system, the funding that is generated
01:13from it will go towards offsetting the costs of health care in Trinidad and Tobago.
