00:24Circorama soon evolved into Circle Vision.
00:28The nine 35 millimeter cameras increased the image quality and reduced the number of frame breaks.
00:35The 360 degree experience virtually transported the viewer into another photo reality.
00:46America the Beautiful, of course, is the one that most people remember from Disneyland.
00:49We see these rugged mountains as a challenge of a human kind.
00:53To bring America the Beautiful to Disneyland, a motion picture theater in the round was installed.
01:01Here is Circle Vision 360, a presentation in which the audience is completely surrounded by the scenic splendor of America.
01:09A major remodel of the theater began in early 1967 and lasted into June.
01:31The attraction's name changed again, this time to Circle Vision 360.
01:36All new film by an all new Disney motion picture technique.
01:39Visit historic landmarks and scenic locations throughout the nation, including journeys to Hawaii, Alaska, national parks, and other interesting areas.
01:48The audience is completely surrounded by the spectacle of America through Circle Vision 360 Walt Disney Productions technique.
01:55All new film by an all Rare Friends kedies.
02:11The major리 helps to look at a notification frequency themselves today.
02:24Oh, my name is Kenino.
02:54On behalf of Disneyland, I would like to welcome you to Circle Vision.
02:58As you may know now, Disneyland is now preparing for any generation of Tomorrowland attractions.
03:04So as a special tribute to 40 years of Circle Vision,
03:07we are currently presenting the 1960s classic Walt Disney's America the Beautiful.
03:14Although Disney has created many memorable Circle Vision films over the years,
03:18America the Beautiful has remained one of the most popular and best loved of any of the films.
03:23There are versions that play here from 1960 until 1984.
03:29Does anybody know where the idea for Circle Vision came from?
03:32Walt Disney himself!
03:34Great! The idea for Circle Vision came from Walt Disney himself.
03:41Back in 1955, before the opening of Disneyland,
03:45Walt asked his creative team to develop an all-new motion picture system,
03:49one that would surround his audiences with sights and sounds.
03:54That was a tall order, but in time they created a new system, which they called Sir Grandma,
03:59to capture the 360-degree views, 11, 16-millimeter cameras were mounted on a special base
04:07and then attached to a specially-equipped station wagon, which traveled through the West.
04:12The film was then projected on small overhead screens that completely surround the theater.
04:17At the time in which this motion picture was filmed, Lyndon Johnson was president.
04:24The average salary was just over $6,000.
04:27He could buy a hot dog for just one quarter.
04:30Many skirts were in fashion, and you could buy a brand-new car for just $2,000.
04:37Take your personal belongings and walk up to the black line.
04:41Please, please do not step over the black line, because the doors do open automatically.
04:49When we reach 10, shall we count down from 10?

05:47the 1960s classic, America the Beautiful.
06:09I am the waves of grain, for the world of their majesties upon the prudent name.
06:25America, America, God shed his praise on me, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
06:56Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to America the Beautiful. Through the magic of Circle Vision,
07:03you'll see it now, as perhaps you've never seen it before, in the round.
07:11As we take you on a magic carpet journey across the continent, we shall attempt to capture the
07:16American scene in all its panoramic variety.
07:19First stop, fabled Manhattan, city of dreams, and our gateway to adventure.
07:31Standing before us, a monument to man's highest aspirations, the United Nations building.
07:38Its towering form matches well this exciting metropolitan skyline.
07:43This building is a busy place, crowded every day of the year, for it attracts visitors from
07:52all over the world.
07:58This, too, is America.
08:01Rockport, Massachusetts, where a rousing chatty reminds us that its fishermen have followed
08:07the sea for generations.
08:08Come on, young say, earthmen, listen to me, I'll sing your song of the fish of the sea,
08:14and blow you its westerly, westerly go, We're bound to the southward, so steady she holds.
08:22Rustic America in Vermont, where the old covered bridge is still to be found.
08:38If you listen closely, in imagination, you may hear the hoofbeats of the countless horses
08:44that have passed this way.
08:51A peaceful village green and a little country church, symbol of a God-fearing people who
08:57carved a nation out of the wilderness.
08:59New Salem, Illinois, this typical village of the early 1800s has been recreated to remind
09:12us of our pioneer beginnings.
09:15Here it was that Abraham Lincoln spent his youth as storekeeper and postmaster.
09:20Mount Vernon, the stately home of George Washington, overlooking the broad Potomac.
09:31Our first president loved this site for its serenity and its magnificent vistas.
09:40Williamsburg, Virginia.
09:50The Duke of Bluster Street, Williamsburg, its appearance the same now as it was in pre-revolutionary
10:08times, except for the modern-day vistas.
10:11Here, in modern Philadelphia, stands Independence Hall.
10:26In its chambers, the Constitution was wrought and signed.
10:30And here was met the first government of the new nation so created.
10:34The same historic building from Independence Square and framed in the doorway the Liberty Bell,
10:44which rang out at the Declaration of Independence, echoing the words encircling its crown,
10:50proclaimed liberty throughout all the land and unto all the inhabitants thereof.
10:55Now to the city bearing Washington's name in the District of Columbia,
11:10and citizens of all ages and many colleagues gathered on the wall to observe a pageant out of history.
11:16In the shadow of the Washington Monument stands the White House,
11:24home of our present chief executive and symbol of the presidency.
11:28Now along famous Pennsylvania Avenue, and looming up ahead, the Capitol building on Capitol Hill.
11:47This, too, is America, where the laws that govern our land are enacted.
11:52In the peaceful countryside near Gettysburg, scene of the decisive battle of the Civil War,
12:07there stand in silent glory the monuments that honor the fall.
12:11The Lincoln Memorial, a nation's heartfelt homage to the president who preserved the Union.
12:27Abraham Lincoln, a man for the ages, a man who lives on in the hearts of free men everywhere.
12:34The splendor of Niagara Falls.
12:59The splendor of Niagara Falls. Here, too, is part of the American Senate. Natural grandeur went into power to serve a growing nation.
13:11And this is America, historic West Point, oldest of the service academies. Here, young men are trained for the tasks of tomorrow with a scholar's broad knowledge of yesterday and today.
13:30And here at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, we find more of these young men of tomorrow, soon to be off in that wild blue yacht.
13:45At Annapolis, these midshipmen who will follow the sea are trained in the same spirit of duty and sacrifice and service to country.
14:00Chicago's Lakeshore Drive takes us swiftly along the shores of Lake Michigan.
14:24Chicago's Lakeshore Drive takes us swiftly along the shores of Lake Michigan.
14:29As a residential area, this section known as the Gold Coast is one of the city's finest.
14:39And now downtown, along Michigan Avenue bridging the Chicago River.
14:44And now to southern climes. Connecting Florida with Key West and its superb fishing grounds
14:56is its 100 mile long causeway over the Gulf of Mexico.
15:03Cape Canaveral, launching site for our astronauts.
15:07These towers are symbols of our nation's quest for new knowledge in outer space.
15:15Fabulous Miami Beach.
15:17Along this narrow strip of sand, the luxury hotel's number, at last count, 362.
15:24Practically one for each day of the year.
15:41Now a journey to yesterday.
15:43A lovely setting outside Charleston, South Carolina, where the city actually had its beginning long ago.
15:56In the colorful French Quarter of Old New Orleans, American jazz was first heard.
16:01And to this day, Dixieland jazz still echoes through these quaint streets.
16:06Along New Orleans riverfront, ships and shipping create a busy scene.
16:19For the city is the port of entry for the entire Mississippi basin.
16:23Over a thousand miles upstream at St. Louis, Missouri, rises the elegantly simple gateway memorial.
16:38Signifying that this was once the jumping off place for the pioneers.
16:41And at its very foot, standing with dignity in a city very much of today, is the old St. Louis Courthouse.
16:50A graceful blending of the old and the new at the midline of the nation.
16:56And now, as the Colorado River leads the way, cutting through the mountains, we follow a trail into the great American West.
17:15We follow a trail into the great American West.
17:18We follow a trail into the great American West.
17:22The American West.
17:27And as I was out walking one morning, for pleasure, I spied a cup-puncher to ride with moan.
17:34His dad was thrown back, and his birds were ginguin'.
17:39And as he approached, he was singin' this song.
17:43Now through rugged fat country to one of America's great natural wonders, Zion National Park in the state of Utah.
18:07Here, in nature's workshop, is a spectacular scene of wind-carved cliffs and sun-baked rocks.
18:17Fasten your seatbelts as we venture into Zion's deepest gorge.
18:23And now, our magic carpet must navigate with considerable care.
18:28Uh, please don't pick the flowers as we pass.
18:37Natural grandeur untouched and unspoiled.
18:43Inspiration point Yosemite, high in the California Sierras.
18:48And framing the scene, majestic El Capitan and Half Dog.
18:56Sun Valley Ida, garbed in a mantle of purest white.
19:00Here is a superb ski setting known the world over.
19:07After a strenuous day on the slopes, a pleasant interlude in the quaint streets of the Alpine village.
19:16Now off to our newest frontier, Alaska.
19:20Here is true wilderness as we follow the frozen Yukon.
19:27The city of Anchorage, Alaska's crossroads of the world.
19:32Here is the stopping point for nearly all air travel between North America and the Orient.
19:37Mount McKinnell, glorious interglacial grandeur, 20,300 feet high.
19:51The highest point on the North American continent.
19:57That sprinkle of buildings snowed in on the edge of the Bering Sea is Nome, Alaska.
20:02A community standing literally at the ends of the earth.
20:06On a nice warm day in summer, the temperature here will average 49 degrees.
20:17Ahead of us, crowning its famous hills, San Francisco, city of light, city of elegance and grace.
20:25One other city can boast a street like Lombard Street, where one almost meets oneself coming and going.
20:40Here you don't need to turn your head to see the scenery.
20:46To really know San Francisco's charm is to know at a dusk at Fisherman's Wharf.
21:01Here a rich variety of sea bear may be found at every door.
21:05A different mood in a different town.
21:20A wild ride with a hook and lighter company through the streets of Los Angeles.
21:32Behind the cameras on a movie set.
21:35A scene that was once the real America has become make-believe America.
21:40Recreated on every TV screen.
