00:00Spanish activists of the Gaza humanitarian aid flotilla have returned home, alleging
00:07mistreatment and rights violations by Israeli authorities. Arriving in Madrid on Sunday
00:13after flying back from Tel Aviv, the activists were greeted with cheers and hugs. They claimed
00:19they were denied access to medicines, legal counsel, contact with their families and consular
00:25assistance during their detention.
00:55Our families, all, as I say, repeatedly in a tone of humiliation and of violence.
01:02We have been in the same situation as them. We know that they give them water, they give
01:06their food, they give them food, they give them food, they give them food, they give them
01:10hunger in a situation where they don't have any water. We are worried about them.
01:15A colleague of 75 years old was asking for insulin from three days. He said that they had no
01:20medicine for animals in the prison. Another Mexican colleague who was asking for medicine
01:27for their cardiac disease said that it was urgent and said that it would only be urgent
01:31when the heart breaks.
01:32The flotilla, which set sail in late August, represents the latest effort by activists to
01:38challenge Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, where Israel has been conducting an offensive since
01:43Hamas' attack in October, 2023. Israel maintains that the blockade is legal and described the
01:50flotilla as a provocation. So far, Israel has deported at least 170 of the more than 450 activists
01:59it detained. The government has faced accusations of mistreatment, including claims that some activists
02:06were denied access to their lawyers, allegations denied by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
