00:00Ten years ago, I, sitting in my bedroom, when I was supposed to be studying for a history test,
00:05decided to whip out a phone and record videos to go public deep in the future
00:10and try to predict what my life would be like, what the channel would be like.
00:14And after ten incredibly long years, high me in ten years, finally went public.
00:19And I wanted to capture my reaction on this video that you're watching now, so let's do it.
00:24High me in ten years.
00:25Hey.
00:26I'm going to schedule upload this video ten years in the future.
00:29So, you're going to see this in 2025.
00:33Oh my gosh.
00:33It's 2015 for me right now.
00:35Oh, this is crazy.
00:37Look how young I look.
00:38Look at the difference.
00:39This, me, doesn't have a beard, doesn't have a mustache.
00:42Dude, what if I'm dead?
00:43Dude, if I'm...
00:44Ooh, that'd be weird.
00:45That'd be so weird.
00:46Thankfully, not dead.
00:48Dude, that'd be really weird.
00:49But, so, let's see.
00:50Dude, if I don't have a million subscribers when you see this video, my entire life has been a failure.
00:56Ironically, we actually have dozens of channels with millions of subscribers.
00:59And before we go too deep into listening to old Jimmy, 17-year-old Jimmy here ramble, I just want to, like, get you in the right mind space.
01:07I want you to understand what's going through this 17-year-old's mind.
01:10We didn't have tons of money growing up.
01:11I mean, it was probably, like, a normal middle-class family.
01:15But in 2008, we ended up going bankrupt.
01:17So, we had nothing.
01:18Like, my parents actually filed for bankruptcy.
01:21And I had poured year after year after year after year after year after year of my life.
01:25And people weren't watching the videos.
01:27Everyone in my school, everyone around me was saying,
01:29Jimmy, you will never be a YouTuber.
01:31This isn't realistic.
01:32You're chasing a fairy tale.
01:33And you need to, like, actually focus on whatever you're actually going to do with your life.
01:37And it started to really weigh on the Jimmy you see here because he's like,
01:40Am I wasting my life?
01:41Am I going to be a failure?
01:42Am I going to be homeless?
01:43Will this ever work out?
01:44And, you know, my mom didn't have much money.
01:46And I really wanted to not be a burden on her.
01:48And I want to be able to make money so I can help her.
01:49And all these thoughts are swirling.
01:51And that, like, storm is what's currently going on.
01:53And this Jimmy you see here 10 years ago, mine?
01:56Now, with that context, let's keep watching.
01:58But by the time you see this, I'll have finished high school.
02:02I did finish high school.
02:04Got into college.
02:05Technically, I went to college.
02:06I went for two weeks and then I thought it was super boring and didn't go.
02:09It was a community college.
02:10We could not afford real college.
02:11Probably be doing YouTube as a job.
02:13Hopefully, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe.
02:15About back then, I'm like, man, I would love to just be able to provide for myself as a job.
02:20And now I provide for hundreds of families.
02:21I have hundreds of full-time employees.
02:23And we help thousands upon thousands of people through our main channel videos.
02:26So it is kind of funny in retrospect that 10 years ago, which really isn't that far ago,
02:31I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to provide for myself.
02:33Yeah, as of right now, I'm enjoying YouTube.
02:36Hopefully, I still, future me still enjoys it.
02:39I don't think I'll ever get tired of YouTube.
02:41Honestly, I think YouTube literally runs in my veins at this point.
02:43I love creating content.
02:45I love telling stories.
02:46I love entertaining people.
02:47I love making your guys' day.
02:48I love being able to impact lives.
02:49It's literally everything I love.
02:51I don't know.
02:51I'd be crazy if I had some ridiculous amount of subscribers.
02:54I bet you if you went back in time and told this 17-year-old me I'd have 440 million subscribers,
03:00he wouldn't believe you.
03:00He would laugh, right?
03:02Because back then, I think the biggest channels in the world had like 10 million subscribers,
03:05if that.
03:06Like, I remember when Smosh hit 10 million subscribers and like being so mind-blown.
03:12Like, whoa, that's huge, right?
03:15I remember when PewDiePie hit 10 million subscribers.
03:17I remember all those things.
03:18And like, that seemed like the pinnacle.
03:20It was like, all right, they hit 10 million.
03:21They won the game.
03:22Like, that's as big as it gets.
03:24And like, now, I don't know.
03:25There's probably like 1,000 creators with 10 million subscribers.
03:28Like, it's just crazy how much the platform has changed in the last decade.
03:31At the time I'm recording this video, I have 8,000 subscribers and 1.8 million views.
03:37Wow.
03:38Look at that.
03:38Also, look at the old channel logo.
03:40I kind of miss that tiger.
03:41The only problem is it kind of looks like a high school mascot.
03:44Just to be blunt, this is why I ended up changing it.
03:47And the entire channel back then had 1,830,631 views.
03:52Which, it's funny because the main channel video does that in like six minutes when we upload now.
03:57And it probably goes without saying, but I want to make it exceptionally clear.
04:00I am living a fairytale life right now.
04:02And I just want to make sure everyone knows I'm very, very, very grateful.
04:06That 17-year-old, if he could talk to you right now, to those of you who watch the videos and allow me to become who I am today,
04:12he would be on his knees crying and be eternally grateful.
04:16And obviously, that 17-year-old is me now.
04:18And, you know, I'm not the best at being vulnerable and expressing emotion.
04:22It's not one of my strong suits.
04:23But I want to make it exceptionally clear that I'm beyond grateful for all of you.
04:28I will never take this for granted.
04:30And this is why I do everything in my power to make every YouTube video we upload on the Mr. Meese channel as freaking great as freaking possible.
04:36So whenever you see this, compare these numbers to whatever I have when you watch this.
04:40Dude, I really hope I have a million subs by now.
04:43You have way more than a million.
04:44Please, future me.
04:45Please.
04:45What am I doing with my hand?
04:47What am I doing?
04:47Please have a million subs.
04:50I probably should have thought about what I was going to say.
04:53So hopefully you have a million subs.
04:55In case you're wondering, I'm also talking a little quiet.
04:57It's actually because my mom's downstairs.
04:59And if she knew I was filming videos as opposed to studying, she would come up there and freak out.
05:04I'm pretty sure actually one of these cuts is because my mom came in to check in on me studying.
05:08And I had to like stop recording and act like I was studying.
05:11All right.
05:11So I should be studying for a history test.
05:13Yep, a history test.
05:14I wonder if you or me in 10 years remembers what grade I'm going to get on this history test that I take tomorrow.
05:21That I'm not studying for because I'm making these videos.
05:25Dude, if you still remember the grade I get on this history test in 10 years, that's crazy.
05:28I do remember the grade I got on this test because after high me a one year, I went back and I looked at it and then I left a comment.
05:34Dude, I'm probably going to be married and stuff.
05:36Man.
05:37Well, you're not married, but you're engaged.
05:41You will be married soon.
05:42I have a very, very beautiful fiance, Tia.
05:44Isn't she adorable?
05:45So much closer on that prediction than the sub count prediction.
05:48Oh, watch me not be married, not have a million subscribers, not have any of this.
05:51And then you guys just think I'm a big loser.
05:54I have most of those things.
05:55And a lot of you probably still think I'm a loser.
05:57Dude, what if I don't do YouTube when this goes public?
05:59That'd be weird.
06:00People don't realize this because I spend so many tens of millions of dollars on videos now.
06:04But when I was starting out, like I couldn't afford anything.
06:07I mean, look at the quality of this because I couldn't afford a camera.
06:11And so it's just so crazy that this somehow turned into this life I'm living now.
06:15If you want to, you want to see what time it is, just so you know what the date is.
06:19That's the date.
06:20Oh, yeah.
06:21The squiggly lines is the date.
06:23Hopefully you can see that.
06:25Hopefully, hopefully you still do YouTube.
06:28Hey.
06:29Oh, my hair is messed up.
06:30Awesome.
06:30All right.
06:31Yeah.
06:31I don't care.
06:32Hey, future me.
06:33Hopefully you're having a good day.
06:35I'm having an awesome day.
06:36I better have a million when this goes public.
06:39You have more than a million.
06:40Chill.
06:41You hit your goal.
06:41You're good.
06:42Ten years, man.
06:44Ten years.
06:47Man.
06:48I'm going to be so different.
06:50I really am going to be so different.
06:52You're different, but not that different.
06:54I mean, back then, I loved strategy games.
06:55I love board games.
06:56Obviously, I love YouTube.
06:57A lot of my differences between 17-year-old me,
06:59that you see here and me now,
07:01is probably more in confidence.
07:03I was very self-conscious back then.
07:05Fun fact.
07:06I loved YouTube so much when I was growing up
07:09that it was kind of all I talked about.
07:12And one time, a high schooler came up to me,
07:15and he's like,
07:15all you do is talk about YouTube.
07:17No one cares.
07:19And that really, really, really hurt me.
07:22Because it kind of hit me.
07:25I was like, wow, all I do is talk about YouTube.
07:27I talk about YouTubers that are doing well.
07:28I talk about ideas.
07:30It was just the thing that consumed me when I was young.
07:32And so, when I was around this age,
07:35I really, really struggled.
07:36Because I was like, okay, no one cares about YouTube.
07:39I just won't talk about it.
07:40And so, I stopped talking about YouTube.
07:42And it got to the point where one time,
07:43one of my teachers asked, like,
07:45am I mute?
07:46Because I talk so little.
07:48And I struggled really, really badly
07:50to connect with people.
07:51Because all I wanted to talk about,
07:52all I wanted to do was improve videos
07:54and study videos and work on videos
07:56and entertain people.
07:57And if you're surrounded by people
07:58who don't care at all by that stuff,
08:01you just become a nuisance to them.
08:03And so, when you're that age,
08:04you have to be around the people in your school.
08:06There are people you just kind of have to be around.
08:08And I was just forced to be around people
08:09who, truthfully, made me feel like a freak
08:11and made me feel like I didn't belong.
08:13And I didn't realize it because I was so young
08:16that, you know, I'm not a freak,
08:18or maybe a little bit,
08:19but it's okay to be obsessed with something.
08:21It's okay to love something.
08:23And so, as soon as I got out of school
08:25and I started hanging out with other people
08:26who love telling stories,
08:27who love making content,
08:28who love being YouTubers,
08:30that's where everything changed.
08:32People who don't care about content creation
08:33don't get it.
08:34And they think you're different and weird
08:36and will call you names.
08:37But who cares?
08:38Just don't, you don't need to be around those people.
08:39And that's how I'll be happy.
08:41Not by trying to change who I am,
08:42if that makes sense.
08:43Oh, man.
08:45Man.
08:46All right, well.
08:48Actually, you know what I just noticed?
08:49This gallon of water.
08:51For whatever reason,
08:52I suck at drinking water.
08:53So I used to carry a gallon of water around
08:55and try to like drink a gallon of water
08:57throughout a day.
08:57A lot of you probably don't know this.
08:59I have something called Crohn's disease.
09:00It's where your gut kind of attacks itself.
09:03It makes you very tired.
09:04Sometimes people will notice
09:05like that I look low energy in videos
09:06or sometimes even people will say
09:08I look soulless.
09:09Usually those images,
09:10those moments correlate
09:11when my Crohn's is acting up.
09:12And I say all that
09:13because I played sports like crazy growing up.
09:16But then when I was 15,
09:17I got Crohn's disease.
09:18I ended up losing 60 pounds.
09:19I really struggled to get out of bed.
09:21And this is like kind of that weird time
09:23where I was like,
09:24oh, well, now I suck at sports
09:25because I have Crohn's,
09:26but I still like train quite a bit.
09:28And so that gallon you see behind my head,
09:30I would drink a gallon of water every day.
09:31So some days I would have like two baseball practices
09:34in the same day.
09:35I'd come home and I'd grind YouTube videos
09:36and then my mom would be like,
09:38do homework and stop failing everything.
09:40And I'd be like,
09:40what time?
09:41I'm trying to be a YouTuber.
09:42All right.
09:42See you guys.
09:43See you guys.
09:44See me.
09:44Hey, me.
09:45Me?
09:45Hey.
09:47One last thing,
09:48just so you know.
09:49Look at that date.
09:50827, October 4, 2015.
09:53That's so crazy.
09:55Feels like literally just yesterday,
09:57but it also feels like 10,000 years ago.
09:59That is crazy to look at.
10:01That little table you see on the right,
10:02that was like a crappy little table that I bought.
10:05This monitor is like a cheap little monitor
10:07I bought at Best Buy.
10:08It's bringing back so many memories, man.
10:10It's currently October 4th.
10:12So many memories.
10:13So yeah, like I said,
10:15this is October 4th.
10:18Oh, an abrupt ending.
10:19Lovely.
10:20I didn't learn how to conclude a video, apparently.
10:23But anyways, my goodness.
10:24You know, to be honest,
10:25I've been a big YouTuber for so long
10:27that sometimes I forget about this past life.
10:30I forget about when I was 11, 12, 13-year-old,
10:3314-year-old, 15-year-old, 16-year-old.
10:34These year after year
10:36where I was making so many videos
10:37and pouring so many thousands of hours into the channel
10:39and no one was watching them
10:40and I couldn't afford anything.
10:42And it was a struggle, man.
10:43It was a freaking struggle.
10:45I'm so just glad that that young me there never gave up.
10:48I'm one of the most stubborn people on the planet.
10:50Even now to this day,
10:52if no one was watching the videos,
10:53I would still be making.
10:54I decided that I was going to be a YouTuber,
10:57I was going to die.
10:57Those are the only two outcomes in my life
10:59is I'm going to be a YouTuber
11:00or I'm going to die.
11:02That's it.
11:03I worked very, very hard
11:04to build the channel where it is today.
11:06But having said that,
11:07there's obviously luck involved.
11:08And I would say the luckiest thing
11:10that ever happened to me
11:11is I, at a very young age,
11:14found what I love.
11:15That 100% is the luckiest thing
11:17that ever happened to me in my life.
11:19Which is why I want to encourage you guys,
11:20you know,
11:21obviously not everyone's in a position
11:23where they can just chase their dreams
11:24and, you know,
11:25you have to put food on the table
11:26if you have kids
11:26and you have to provide for yourself.
11:27But if you do have time
11:29outside of your job
11:30and what you're doing to provide,
11:31really try to find what you love.
11:33Because when you do find what you love
11:35and it finally works out,
11:36it's amazing.
11:37I'm so grateful for the life I live.
11:39I'm so grateful
11:39for the life you guys allow me to live.
11:41I love everything I do.
11:43I love it.
11:44I love it.
11:44I love it so much.
11:45And so thank you.
11:47Thank you guys.
11:48I hope you enjoyed
11:49and let me know if I should react to other stuff.
11:53and let me know if I should react to other stuff.
