00:00In the African savanna, a cheetah mother and her cubs spend the morning together when suddenly
00:04they hear a predator approaching. Soon after, a lion appears and heads toward the cheetah,
00:09who flees in an attempt to lure him away from her cubs. Despite her speed, she ends up being
00:14surrounded by a pride of lionesses and is eliminated by the pack's attack. Shortly after,
00:19the predators leave, unaware of the cubs' presence, who end up getting separated in the dense jungle.
00:24One of them walks through the night until it reaches a road, where it is about to be hit by
00:28a car. Luckily, Peter, the driver, manages to swerve in time, and when he sees the small animal alone,
00:35he and his son Zen decide to rescue it. The two soon realize that it is a cheetah cub,
00:39and Peter tells Zen that one day he will have to return it to the jungle. Even so,
00:44the boy becomes attached to the cub and decides to raise it until it is old enough to return to the
00:48jungle. The next day, Peter and Zen take the little cheetah to their farm, where they raise other
00:53abandoned animals. Once there, Zen introduces him to his mother, who names him Duma, and before long,
01:00the cub becomes part of the family. Over the months, Duma grows and becomes an extremely fast
01:05cheetah. Along with this, Peter raises Zen to be an independent boy, teaching him to drive,
01:10build, and repair all kinds of things. Unfortunately, one day while working on the farm,
01:15Peter feels ill and faints on the tractor, being rushed to the hospital. Some time later,
01:20he returns home and reunites with his wife, apparently recovered. One morning, he challenges
01:25his son to a race against Duma to see how fast the young cheetah can go. Peter then rides his
01:30motorcycle, with Zen sitting in the sidecar, and speeds down the road. The boy records everything
01:36on camera and sees Duma overtake them with ease, with the cheetah reaching over 50 miles per hour.
01:42Back home, Kristen helps her son with his studies, but she suddenly starts crying. The boy asks what's
01:47wrong, but his mother covers it up and asks him to continue reading his book. The next day,
01:52Zen and Duma are playing in the treehouse when Peter asks to come in and tells them that it's
01:56time for the boy to say goodbye to his friend. With Duma about to become an adult cheetah,
02:01he needs to return to his true home in the jungle. Zen refuses to leave his friend, but Peter insists
02:06that it must be done and shows him a map, pointing to a valley beyond the mountains where the cheetah
02:11can live in peace. Peter then promises that next week, they will have a picnic in the valley
02:15and enjoy their last day with Duma as best they can. With no other choice, the boy waits
02:20for that moment to come, but one night, Zen and Duma wake up to the sound of an ambulance
02:25outside. The boy goes to see what happened and finds Kristen, who hugs her son, saying
02:30that his father's health has worsened. Tragically, Peter does not survive the illness, and the next
02:35morning, during the funeral, Zen says goodbye to his beloved father for the last time. Faced
02:40with this loss, the next few days are the most difficult for the family, who try to adapt
02:44to their new reality. Things only get worse when Kristen talks to her son, telling him
02:49that they will have to rent out the farm and move to the city of Johannesburg. Now that
02:53Peter is no longer with them, the farm bills are piling up and they will live with his sister,
02:57Gwen, for a while. Zen, however, has no intention of abandoning his best friend, and even knowing
03:03the risks. Kristen decides to take Duma with them until the nature reserve comes to pick him
03:07up. Finally, moving day arrives and the family arrives at Aunt Gwen's house, who is not
03:13very happy to see a cheetah in her home. Kristen promises that Duma will behave, and
03:18the next morning, she drops Zen off at his new school and goes out in search of a new
03:22job. Meanwhile, Duma is sitting on the couch, but he gets bored and starts exploring the
03:26house. Suddenly, he jumps on the dining room table and scares Gwen so much that she runs
03:31out of the house, leaving the door open. Because of this, the cheetah runs through the city
03:36and chases after Zen, trying to follow his trail. Far away, the boy is watching class when,
03:41on the other side of the room, he sees his friend through the window, but Duma soon runs
03:46away, and seconds later, screams are heard throughout the school. Everyone panics and
03:50chaos ensues, with the cheetah running throughout the building. At that moment, two armed police
03:55officers storm the school to see what happened, and Zen rushes to find Duma before they do.
04:00The boy searches everywhere for the cheetah, but when he looks in the bathroom, he is surrounded
04:05by a group of troublemaking students. Zen is not intimidated and tries to resist, but the
04:10boys attack him and knock him to the ground. At that moment, Duma appears in one of the bathroom
04:14stalls and roars at the students to get away from his friend. After that, Zen tries to take Duma
04:20away from there, but the police officers see the cheetah with the boy and go after him.
04:24The pair flee as quickly as possible and manage to lose the police, hiding inside a park. Once the
04:29coast is clear, the two go to a remote location, and Zen soon realizes that the big city is not a
04:35safe place for Duma. The boy then remembers Peter's plan to take the cheetah to his new home in the
04:40valley. Determined to help his friend, Zen returns with Duma to the farm, picks up Peter's motorcycle
04:46and his old map, and sets off down the road. Hours later, the motorcycle runs out of gas and stops in
04:51a deserted part of the road. With only a bottle of water, Zen and Duma push the motorcycle forward
04:57until they find a crashed plane just ahead. The boy decides to camp there, and at the end of the day,
05:02he falls asleep inside the aircraft, while Duma keeps watch. Night is approaching when,
05:07on the horizon, the cheetah sees a wanderer approaching. The man sees the motorcycle in
05:12the middle of the desert and tries to steal it, but the noise wakes Zen up and the boy asks who he is.
05:17Shortly after, Duma appears at his side and the wanderer is startled, pulling out a knife to defend
05:22himself, but Zen says that the cheetah is with him and will not hurt him. The wanderer then introduces
05:27himself as Rip and says he is going to the southern region. Zen says he is traveling west and makes a
05:32deal with the man to give him a ride on the motorcycle in exchange for some water. Rip accepts
05:37and introduces the boy to his pet, Machaka, a small galago he found during his trip. Now they need to
05:43find a way out of the desert, and after searching inside the plane, Zen finds a parachute and has an
05:48idea. At dawn, the boy ties the parachute to a piece of wood and attaches it to the motorcycle to
05:53serve as a makeshift sail. Thanks to this, the motorcycle begins to move quickly with the force
05:58of the wind, and the group covers the entire stretch of dry land in a short time. After that,
06:05Rip goes out in search of more water and finds a piece of land where he believes there is a river
06:09buried deep underground. He then begins to dig until he finally finds enough water for the rest of the
06:14trip. Despite this, they still need to find something to eat, and while searching the area,
06:19Zen sees an adult ostrich nearby. He then decides to test Duma's hunting
06:23skills, and at his command, he sends the cheetah after its prey. Duma obeys and advances toward
06:29the ostrich, with both disappearing into the woods. Minutes later, Zen goes to see what happened,
06:34only to find that the ostrich is gone and Duma has only found its eggs. Although the eggs are still
06:39edible, Rip laughs at the situation and says that the cheetah will not survive in the African jungle if
06:44he does not act like a hunter. However, Zen shows him a map, indicating the location of a valley
06:50where Duma can live far from predators. Upon seeing the indicated location, Rip warns that to
06:55get there, they need to pass through the Okavango, a dangerous region from which few have emerged
07:00alive. He believes that the best thing to do is to return to the city and get good money for the
07:04cheetah, but the boy refuses to sell his best friend. Seeing that Zen will not give up, Rip agrees
07:10to accompany him for a while longer, and the two set off toward the valley. On the way, the boy takes a
07:15look at his father's old compass, which points west, while Rip follows another path. Even though
07:20he finds this suspicious, the boy continues to follow him until they arrive at an old village.
07:25The place, however, is uninhabited and littered with human bones, with Rip believing that the
07:30residents were victims of some mysterious attack. While exploring the site, Rip finds a sharp tip and
07:35assembles a spear with it, in case any predators appear. He and the boy continue searching the village
07:40when a helicopter begins to fly over the area. Rip says that there are bad people inside the
07:45aircraft and tells the boy and the cheetah to hide in one of the houses. However, it is revealed that
07:50Kristen is in the helicopter, having asked the authorities for help in finding her missing son.
07:55Minutes later, the helicopter leaves, and Zen has no idea that his mother was there. But this only
08:00makes Rip's intentions even more suspicious. When night falls, the man builds a fire to protect
08:06himself from lions and asks Zen if he knows the legend about the stripes on a cheetah's face.
08:10The boy says that according to his father, they serve to prevent sunlight from reflecting in their
08:15eyes while hunting. However, Rip says that a long time ago, a cub got lost from its cheetah mother
08:21and she searched everywhere for it, but never found it. The mother cheetah suffered greatly from the
08:25loss of her cub and cried for many, many days. Her tears ended up creating black lines on her face,
08:31which were passed on to all cheetahs born, as a sign of her suffering. After this story, the group rests
08:36for the rest of the night, and at dawn, Rip goes out to explore some more. He ends up finding an
08:41abandoned diamond mine and decides to go inside, hoping that there are still some precious stones
08:46left. Suspicious that Rip has other plans, Zen decides to leave him and runs away with Duma.
08:52However, seconds later, the boy hears Rip's screams inside the cave, followed by a noise that sounds like
08:57a collapse. Zen then runs into the cave and sees that Rip has been caught in a landslide.
09:02The boy rushes to help him and removes enough dirt so that Rip can breathe. Rip thanks him and
09:08asks the boy to remove the rest of the sand, but Zen refuses and asks where he was taking him.
09:13Rip doesn't understand the question, but the boy says he knows they were going south, not west,
09:18and suspects that Rip intended to take them back to the city. The boy also accuses him of wanting
09:23to sell Duma and get the ransom money. Rip tries to justify himself, saying he is taking the boy on a
09:28safer route through the mountains, but Zen doesn't believe him and leaves him in the cave to go his
09:33own way. In addition, the boy takes Rip's backpack, along with Machaka, and continues his journey to
09:39take Duma to the valley. Hours later, the two friends find a long river below the mountains,
09:44and according to the map, they must cross it to reach their destination. Thanks to his father's
09:48teachings, Zen builds a makeshift raft and then throws himself into the river. The water seems calm,
09:53but minutes later, Duma starts acting strangely, and when Zen looks ahead, he sees a rocky stretch
09:59just ahead. The boy tries to steer to the other side, but the raft ends up capsizing in the strong
10:04current. The trio struggles to get out of the water, and the situation becomes even more desperate when
10:09a group of crocodiles attacks them. Armed with Rip's spear, Zen tries to defend himself, but luckily the
10:15current carries the trio to shore and they narrowly escape the crocodiles. After this adventure,
10:20the journey continues through an extensive cornfield, until, upon reaching the other side,
10:25the boy sees a herd of African buffalo. Machaka is frightened by the noise and runs away,
10:30while Duma dashes off to capture one of the buffalo. Zen loses sight of the cheetah and runs after him,
10:36but hours pass and there is no sign of him around. As if that weren't bad enough, night is approaching
10:41and Zen is an easy target for the predators that live in the savannah. Even so, the boy does not give
10:46up and continues to search for his friend until he finds a forest, where he encounters a wild boar.
10:51Zen then climbs a tree to hide from the animal, when a poisonous spider begins to crawl down his
10:56face. In order not to attract attention, the boy remains motionless and silent until the wild boar
11:02leaves, clearing the way. After that, Zen climbs down from the tree and continues searching for Duma,
11:08who also entered the forest but ended up being caught in a trap. The cheetah tries to break free,
11:12but he is trapped in a cage set by hunters who trade wild animals. Zen must hurry to save his
11:18friend, and while searching the forest, he is startled by Machaka jumping on his face.
11:23The boy is relieved to see the little galago again, but the boar also appears and runs towards them.
11:28The boy tries to run away, but ends up tripping on the ground and losing consciousness.
11:33This seems to be the end, but minutes later, Zen wakes up in the middle of a campfire,
11:37with Duma by his side and being petted by Rip. The man says he released the cheetah from the trap,
11:42and saved the boy moments before he was attacked by the boar. Upon hearing everything, Zen apologizes
11:48for abandoning him, but Rip reveals that he planned to take the boy back and collect the
11:52rewards so he could return to his family. Rip says that years ago, he left his village,
11:57leaving his wife and children behind to try his luck in the big city.
12:01However, things went wrong and Rip had to resort to crime, being captured and kept in prison for years.
12:07Since his release, Rip has been trying to earn money to return to his family and continues to
12:12travel around the country in search of precious jewels. After hearing the whole truth, Zen begins
12:17to trust Rip, and he promises to help him take Duma to his new home. Before that, the two go out in
12:22search of food and find a pair of deer nearby. Again, Zen tells Duma to go after them, but the
12:28cheetah still doesn't know how to hunt and lets his prey escape again. The group remains hungry, but at
12:33dusk, they see several lights in a part of the forest where a group of tourists is camping. Rip and Zen come up
12:39with a plan, and when dawn breaks, the boy goes to the group, pretending to have been bitten by a
12:44poisonous snake. The tourists try to help him, but from under Zen's shirt emerges a snake, similar to
12:49a black mamba. The group panics and flees, allowing Zen and Rip to escape with all the food. After that,
12:56the group continues down the river in a boat, and Zen gives Rip his savings as a gift for all his help.
13:01Rip is grateful for the gesture and in return gives him a small diamond he found inside the cave as a sign
13:06of friendship between the two. After crossing the river, the journey continues along the mountain
13:11path, when Duma finds the remains of a deer on the ground. Rip warns them to be careful, as there
13:16must be lions nearby, but following his instinct, the cheetah begins to devour the deer's body. Zen tells
13:23Duma to share the food with them, but the cheetah doesn't like this and growls at him. The boy is
13:27surprised by this attitude, but Rip tells him to leave the cheetah alone, as he is beginning to adapt to
13:33life in the wild. As soon as Duma finishes his meal, the group goes to rest inside a cave, where they
13:38find several cave paintings. Rip says that his village is nearby and remembers the place as a
13:43spot where he and his father used to camp during his childhood. However, everything has changed over
13:48the years, and soon that cave, as well as the people who passed through there, will be forgotten.
13:53Upon hearing this, Zen becomes thoughtful, saying that he does not like change, as everything has gotten
13:59worse since his father perished, and he believes that the same thing will happen again when Duma leaves.
14:04However, Rip calms him down, saying that change is inevitable, but not all of it is bad. It was
14:10thanks to change that Zen became a stronger and more determined young man, as did Duma, who is becoming
14:15more adapted to the jungle throughout this journey. Zen understands, but that doesn't make the inevitable
14:20farewell to his best friend, which is getting closer every day, any easier. The next day, they leave the
14:26cave and walk through a huge field until Rip sees his old village in the distance. He takes Zen there,
14:31but suddenly, a swarm of flies advances toward them. To protect the boy, Rip takes off his coat and
14:37covers him completely, while being bitten by dozens of insects, which transmit the so-called sleeping
14:42sickness. The fly's venom causes Rip's entire body to swell and go numb, but he continues to protect Zen
14:48until the swarm leaves. Hours later, at dusk, he tries to move on, but Rip can barely keep his eyes open
14:55and his hands won't move. The situation becomes even more critical when heavy rain begins and
15:00predators start hunting in the dark. Rip then gathers some grass and tells Zen to light his
15:05lighter so they can protect themselves around a campfire. Fortunately, they manage to light the
15:10fire and are protected from predators while they wait for the rain to pass. As soon as things calm
15:15down, Zen decides to go to the village to get help and asks Duma to watch over Rip. However, as soon as
15:21the boy leaves the fire, a pack of lions attacks. Sensing that his friend is in danger, Duma runs
15:27after Zen and draws the lion's attention, who then head in his direction. With his speed, Duma runs to
15:32a cave and manages to shake off the predators, safely emerging on the other side. Meanwhile, Zen manages to
15:38reach the village and finds an elder, whom he asks for help in saving Rip. Even without understanding the
15:44language, the old man calls a group to follow the boy until they find Rip, asleep in the middle of the
15:49fire. As soon as they take him back, Zen calls for his friend, but Duma hears the sound of another
15:54cheetah and goes to see what it is. The next day, Zen waits outside while Rip is cared for by the
16:00village elders. Thanks to the treatment provided by the villagers, the wanderer is freed from the
16:04poison of the flies, and when he wakes up, he is reunited with his wife, his two children, and his
16:10mother. Rip is moved to see them again and asks for forgiveness for having disappeared all these years.
16:15He then calls Zen in and introduces him to his family, who thank the boy for all his help.
16:20Zen is happy to see Rip recovered, but he is worried about Duma, who has not yet returned.
16:25The boy then leaves the village to search for the cheetah, until he finds two cheetahs running
16:29together, chasing a herd of deer. The pair manage to capture their prey, and Zen recognizes Duma,
16:35who has finally become part of the jungle. Seeing this, the boy remembers his father's words about
16:41letting his friend live in his true home. Reluctantly, Zen accepts and leaves, but then Duma runs towards
16:46him and caresses him, as he always did. The boy returns the gesture of affection and says goodbye
16:51to the cheetah, wishing him well and that he will never forget him. Finally, Rip watches the two
16:57friends part ways and welcomes Zen, who cannot hold back his tears. More days pass, and far away,
17:03Kristen returns to the farm and continues to take care of the place, hoping that Zen will return.
17:07To her delight, the boy returns on Peter's motorcycle, wearing the clothes of Rip's village
17:12and bringing his new friend, Machaka. Seeing her son after so many days missing, Kristen runs towards
17:18him and hugs him, with Zen promising never to leave her again. The two resume their lives,
17:23and although things are no longer the same, Zen takes comfort in leaving Duma in a better place,
17:28thanks to everything he learned from his father. So what did you think of this movie?
