Transcript
00:00U.S. President Donald Trump gave Hamas until Sunday night to agree to his proposal,
00:05opens new tab to end Israel's war in Gaza, warning all hell would break out in the Palestinian
00:11enclave if it fails to get on board. After senior Hamas officials said they would reject being told
00:17to take it or leave it, senior Hamas officials said they were holding talks with Arab mediators
00:22to shape their response. On Friday, Trump issued his latest threat against the militant group in
00:28a post on social media. The group is under considerable pressure to accept the plan,
00:34backed by major Arab and European powers. As the war approaches its two-year mark,
00:39Trump's deadline and Hamas' apparent preference for additional talks highlight the wide gaps between
00:44the parties. Describing his plan as one last chance for Hamas, Trump wrote on Truth Social,
00:51an agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday evening at 6.06 p.m. Washington, D.C. time.
00:57Trump added, every country has signed on. If this last chance agreement is not reached,
01:03all hell, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas. Trump, who has frequently
01:10used violence against enemies who don't comply, said on Tuesday that he would give Hamas three
01:15to four days to accept his plan without specifying a time frame. Asked by reporters earlier this week
01:21whether there was scope for further talks on his proposal, Trump said, not much. Trump's plan
01:27specifies an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian
01:33prisoners held by Israel, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas
01:39and the introduction of a transitional government led by an international body. After presenting his
01:45plan to Arab and Muslim nations last week, Trump hosted Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House where the
01:51Israeli Prime Minister endorsed the document, saying it satisfied Israel's war aims. The proposal,
01:57which calls on the Islamist militant group to disarm, a demand that Hamas has previously rejected,
02:03was not reached through negotiations. Mohamed Nizal, a senior Hamas political official,
02:09told Al Jazeera on Thursday the group had many comments on the plan. He added,
02:14We do not speak in black and white terms, but rather we are looking for gray areas within which
02:19we can move. Also on Thursday, a Hamas official told Reuters that the group had yet to finalize its
02:26response to Trump's plan, but that intensive discussion is underway. The official said Hamas
02:32had held talks with Arab mediators, Turkey and Palestinian factions to shape the Palestinian response.
02:38Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said,
02:43The president has made it very clear to Hamas that this is an acceptable and detailed proposal
02:48that they must accept or the consequences are going to be very grave for them.
