Chesterfield Salvation Army store voted the best in the country
Transcript
00:00I'm Stuart Grove, I'm assistant manager at Chesterfield Donation Centre.
00:03We've just been voted number one centre for Donation Centre in Salvation Army.
00:10So that's voted for by the other donation centres.
00:13Yeah, we're just having a look round, show you some of the products.
00:18Tell us a bit about what you can pay, what different objects or different things you sell.
00:22Yeah, a variety of things that we sell.
00:24We've got a box, games, toys, bric-a-bric, lots of cups, craft.
00:31We have a closing section here.
00:33We have electrical, furniture.
00:37We also have lots of picture frames, mirrors.
00:41Wedding dresses are doing well at the moment, we've got lots of them.
00:44Yeah, sports equipment, jewellery over here.
00:48And yeah, some nice men's shirts this way.
00:53What does it feel to be voted?
00:55Yeah, it feels really good.
00:56It feels all the hard work that we've put into it, especially with the volunteers.
00:59It's been appreciated.
01:01We have put a lot of work into here.
01:02We have put a lot of work in.
01:05It's been coming up to five years in December that we've opened up.
01:09So for a shop to be open in just five years, to get to that point in Salvation Army,
01:15with the amount of shops that they have got, it's a great achievement for us.
01:20We've actually took over from Glasgow as being the number one on that level.
01:24But yeah, it's really, really proud.
01:27Especially with all the volunteers we've got.
01:29For us, size-wise, for the amount of donations we get through the door,
01:34which is amazing for Chesterfield as well.
01:36It's not just about the sense, it's about Chesterfield.
01:39The community in Chesterfield, they've opened up to us, realising better to recycle rather than throwing it away,
01:46donating it for us, helping us out.
01:49We help the community out as well because we're so inexpensive here.
01:53We're so cheap with what we sell because we want to get it out quick because we're getting a lot coming back in quick.
01:56So we also help the community out that way as well as what we get goes to the charity and goes to help the church.
02:02So yeah, it's a great achievement for Chesterfield as well.
02:06What's the secret of the success then how have you managed to do it?
02:08Have you managed to become so successful?
02:12Yeah, it's a good question.
02:13I mean, a lot of it's a bit of luck because where we're placed, you've got a lovely car park,
02:20you've got such advertisement on the main roundabouts people see you,
02:23but I do think the main one is just the Chesterfield people.
02:26That is the main thing, how they took us on and how they come.
02:29Word of mouth, it must have spread.
02:32The customers we get, some of them every day, every single day, the same ones keep coming back
02:37and the new ones, they always marvel and have a good word to say about it.
02:40They didn't know what variety of items we sold.
02:44So yeah, I do think a lot of it is the Chesterfield community.
02:48You've got a good set of people around here.
02:51They really are.
02:51I mean, I'm from Sheffield, so they're just community, but yeah, they are lovely people here.
02:56Derbyshire Times here at Chesterfield Salvation Army Donation Centre.
03:03Named the best in the country.
03:05And, you know, you can see why.
03:08There's so much, there's so much you can get in here.
03:11I mean, I actually haven't had a suit for ages because, you know, I'm just too tight to buy one.
03:19But this suit's cost me two quid and this faux silk shirt also just two pound.
03:26So yeah, I'm very happy with my purchases.
03:29Come down, check it out.
