00:00Could you teach me? Teach me? Could you teach me, Alex? I want to be better.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo. And today, we're counting down our picks for the most memorably compelling
00:10scenes in Apple TV Plus' industry melodrama, The Morning Show. We should warn viewers that
00:16the following content contains spoilers. I'm not going to lie to you anymore. None of us
00:20are going to lie to you anymore. Number 10, The Fencer's Olympic Race. The newly rebranded UBN
00:27wants to keep things light with its coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
00:31Why do you love it? What does it give you?
00:36When you put on your mask, you can be anyone you want to be.
00:46It turns out to be a tense interview with teenage Iranian fencer Roya Nazari after her father
00:51Arsham slips Alex a note stating their intention to defect. The host blows the interview by
00:56talking politics, pulling the fire alarm, and lending her driver to the Nazarees.
01:01What's going on? We don't know yet.
01:03Everybody out.
01:04There's a freight elevator at the end of the hall. There's a black SUV across the street.
01:08She's on her way. Go, go, go, go.
01:09They then narrowly evade their handlers via an epic Manhattan car chase. Over the top,
01:14though it may be, season four kicks off with The Morning Show amping up production once again.
01:19And as it's revealed that Arsham works for Iran's nuclear program,
01:23the stakes more than match the spectacle of his and his daughter's escape.
01:27Oh my God, I have to interview them as soon as possible.
01:30Oh, and say what, that you supply the getaway car? Absolutely not.
01:33Stella, come on. A sit down with a defector choosing to leave her own country right before the games.
01:39Roya's father works for Iran's nuclear program.
01:42Number 9. Corey and Chip's Meeting
01:44From Bradley Jackson's viral vitriol at a protest,
01:47to Alex Levy's confrontation of ex-colleague and lover Mitch Kessler,
01:51there's plenty of drama packed in the first hour of The Morning Show.
01:55And I'm gonna lose everything, Mitch.
01:57There's no guarantees.
01:59Zero.
02:02Our star was built on chemistry and you just blew it up!
02:06And why? Why did you do that?
02:09But Corey Ellison sets the agenda during a dinner meeting with EP Chip Black.
02:12As they discuss scrapping plans to replace Alex amid Mitch's sex scandal,
02:17the UBA CEO monologues about how digital media has spiked a market for bleak and biased headlines.
02:23People get their horrible news delivered to the palm of their hand, 24-7,
02:27and they get it the way that they like it, colored the way that they want it.
02:30He feels the only way to save the network is to focus on entertainment over legitimate journalism.
02:35Corey succinctly exposes a modern crisis in the information industry and consumer psyche,
02:40but insidiously values profiting off of it.
02:43He'll soon find that the smart money is in controlling the chaos.
02:46News is awful, but humanity is addicted to it.
02:51And the whole world is depressed by it.
02:54That's why what we really need on television right now,
02:57it's not news or f***ing journalism, it's entertainment.
03:03Number 8. Bradley Jackson reporting from space.
03:06Bradley desperately needs a compelling story after she's denied a potentially controversial interview.
03:11Alex abandons the story of Hyperion's new space shuttle to cover a protest,
03:15quite literally leaving Bradley in the hot seat.
03:18What is it?
03:21Well, since you're in the neighborhood, want to go to space?
03:25The underprepared reporter is initially terrified as she joins Corey and Paul Marks in the shuttle's test flight,
03:31then astonished by the beauty of Earth from this angle.
03:33The panic then reignites when UBA's live feed suddenly cuts off during Bradley's awe-inspiring description.
03:40After two years of a pandemic and now a war in Ukraine,
03:46it's incredible to look down and see how connected we all are.
03:50It's so tragic.
03:52While it's no surprise that this was just a technical glitch instead of a space disaster,
03:57the season three premieres Cliffhanger shows that there's always a new frontier for high-flying thrills on the morning show.
04:03Don't you love when you go to the movies, you're expecting a drama, but instead you get a thriller.
04:09That's edgy your seat stuff.
04:11Number 7. Daniel Goes Off Script
04:14If Daniel Henderson wants to be taken more seriously as a media personality,
04:18this stunt is the wrong approach.
04:20The Weekend Edition TMS host welcomes Alex back to the show
04:23and addresses 2020's political climate with a rendition of Neil Diamond's America.
04:27The thing is, this skit was completely unsanctioned.
04:42Though Daniel is strangely not penalized for eating up airtime
04:45and apparently covering a song without the artist's permission,
04:48the indignity was in vain.
04:50News division president Stella Back missed the skit
04:59and Mia is embarrassed by the stereotypical music routine.
05:03This marks the beginning of the end of Daniel's time with TMS,
05:06but at least he'll be going out on a literal high note.
05:09Today!
05:14Today!
05:15Bradley's first broadcast on TMS goes off the rails
05:25when she clumsily reveals her troubled past, including a terminated pregnancy.
05:29I got suspended multiple times.
05:31I cost my high school track team a championship
05:34because I got caught with alcohol on me.
05:36Heck, I had an abortion when I was 15 years old.
05:39That controversial frankness later gets things back on track
05:42in an interview with Ashley Brown, a former production assistant
05:45and one of Mitch Kessler's accusers.
05:48As this poor woman details a disturbing workplace relationship,
05:51Bradley goes off script to press her about why she never confronted Mitch
05:55or filed a formal complaint.
05:56I guess what I'm asking is,
05:59was there something about the culture at this network, at this show,
06:04that made it feel impossible to complain?
06:08No.
06:08She ignores producers' panicked intervention
06:12to caringly guide Ashley through representing the climate
06:14that keeps so many women silent.
06:17The graphically sexual account may be a bit TMI for TMS,
06:20but such gutsy journalism affirms Bradley as an asset.
06:24Thank you so much, Ashley.
06:26Thank you for telling us your truth.
06:29You're an incredibly brave woman.
06:31Number 5.
06:33Alex Bursts the Boards Bubble
06:34Alex finds herself in hot water
06:36when she shockingly announces Bradley Jackson
06:38as her new co-host during an award acceptance speech.
06:41I would like to take this moment
06:43to announce my new morning show co-host,
06:49Bradley Jackson.
06:52She takes another opportunity when she's called
06:54before UBA's executive board,
06:57well aware that they've been coming after her for some time.
07:00Alex asserts her experience and value beyond the bad optics
07:03in questioning her pick for a female successor
07:05to alleged sexual abuser Mitch.
07:07The part you guys never seem to realize
07:10is that you don't have the power anymore.
07:14The news division is held up by my show
07:17and the only thing keeping us afloat is me.
07:22When Fred Micklin tries to speak up,
07:24Alex makes it clear that she's in charge this time.
07:27This sequence was the lead preview
07:28for the morning show for a reason.
07:30It's a stellar display of Jennifer Aniston's dramatic chops
07:33and a supposed puff journalist's authority.
07:36You also can't miss the perfect symbol of a woman
07:38not just taking a seat at the table,
07:40but taking charge.
07:41We are doing this my way.
07:45Because frankly, I've let you bozos handle this long enough.
07:49Not the apology you were expecting?
07:57Number four, the Sybil Reynolds interview.
08:00The biggest bombshell to come out of the UBA hack
08:02is a leaked memo in which board member Sybil Reynolds
08:05makes a racially insensitive joke
08:07about hiring Olympic gold medalist
08:09turned media personality Christine Hunter.
08:11A few days ago, a racially insensitive email surfaced
08:14from UBA board president Sybil Reynolds.
08:16The email contained comments about me.
08:21I haven't spoken out in public until now,
08:23and here to join me as I do so
08:24is the woman who wrote those comments.
08:26Eager to prove her worth as a TMS host,
08:29Chris herself sits down with Sybil
08:30to address the fallout.
08:32She ends up grilling her superior
08:33about her prepared apology
08:35and the network's history of racial bias.
08:37Were you aware that I was Q-tested
08:39more than any other person
08:42who has ever anchored the show?
08:45That I had to have eight different approval meetings
08:47in addition to the strategy discussions about my hair?
08:51Sybil is so overwhelmed by the line of questioning
08:53that she blurts out that Chris should be grateful
08:55for the opportunities she provided.
08:58This nafu seals the disgraced executive's professional fate.
09:01There's a new hard-hitting journalist in town,
09:03and this intense standoff effectively earns her respect.
09:06From this climate where racial divisions are exploited.
09:11But that's every climate, though, wouldn't you say?
09:16Um, s***.
09:21But yes, we will move on from institutional racism
09:26right after this break.
09:28Number three, Bradley deletes the footage.
09:31Bradley seems to be hiding something
09:32when her coverage of the January 6th riots
09:34earns her an award from the American Alliance of Journalists.
09:37There will always,
09:40always be someone
09:44who tries to silence you.
09:48A flashback episode halfway through season three reveals
10:02that her integrity has its limits after all.
10:04As Bradley intimately films the chaos at the Capitol,
10:07she spots none other than her brother Hal
10:10fighting a police officer.
10:11She later begrudgingly deletes the footage.
10:13You have to get out of here.
10:15You're gonna take a bus.
10:17And you were never here.
10:19And I never f***ing saw you.
10:20This heartbreaking coincidence with the family
10:22Bradley has been trying to escape
10:24finally presents an ethical dilemma
10:26she can't even resolve.
10:28Conscience ultimately prompts the siblings
10:30to surrender to the FBI at the end of the season.
10:32Though cooperation at least allows Bradley
10:35to keep her secretly blemished reputation.
10:37Okay, honey, you're just gonna breathe now, okay?
10:39Yeah, I'm trying.
10:40I just don't know how this is gonna go.
10:43You're doing the right thing.
10:44You know, you're doing the only thing.
10:46Hey, I'll be right there.
10:48Number two.
10:49Alex and Mitch's last dance.
10:51The tension in Alex quarantining
10:52in Mitch's Italian mansion
10:54is lifted by Adriano Celentano's cover of Stand By Me.
10:57As the two dance,
10:59Alex reveals that a pregnancy scare
11:00after sleeping with Mitch
11:01got her thinking about the prospect of being with him.
11:04It wasn't a bad thing.
11:06It wasn't, it wasn't a bad thing, honestly.
11:10I loved you so much.
11:12Not as a lover, you know, but as a partner.
11:15These old friends seem to reach bittersweet closure,
11:18but rampant media harassment leaves Mitch
11:21asking Alex how to be a better person.
11:23I wanna be better.
11:24I wanna be a better person, please.
11:26I know.
11:27Just, no, seriously, Alex.
11:29I just, I want to be a good person.
11:33After she's free to leave,
11:35Mitch spends the night
11:36with documentarian Paola Lambruschini,
11:38and the weight of the world
11:39comes down as he drives home.
11:41Mitch's last thoughts
11:42as he sails off the cliff
11:43over Lake Como
11:44are of dancing with Alex,
11:45and what could have been
11:47with the last person
11:47who truly understood him.
11:49Before we unveil our top pick,
12:05here are a few honorable mentions.
12:07Alex and Corey's duet.
12:09A karaoke rendition of
12:10Not While I'm Around
12:11symbolizes a dark professional relationship.
12:14Demons will charm you
12:16with a smile
12:18for a while
12:20but in time.
12:26Mitch's birthday party.
12:28A Martin Short musical number
12:29is spoiled by Dick Lundy's lewdness
12:31and Mitch's midlife crisis.
12:33The hustler turns 50 tonight.
12:37Corey talks with Hannah's father.
12:44The hotshot finds real crisis of conscience
12:46while trying to settle
12:47a wrongful death lawsuit.
12:48Your daughter's about to get smeared in the press.
12:53Smear?
12:55They're gonna try to...
12:57Oh, they're gonna do it.
12:58Not you.
12:59They.
13:00Yeah, they.
13:02Not me.
13:02Alex doesn't want to be alone.
13:05Chip proves to be Alex's literal lifeline
13:07when she calls sick
13:08with disgrace and COVID.
13:10I don't want to be alone.
13:15Okay, well...
13:17Let's just keep talking.
13:18Stella's Martini Meeting.
13:20Disturbing parallels
13:21in Stella tolerating investors
13:23who degrade a waitress
13:24for a $20,000 tip.
13:26I'd love to lock in a rate.
13:28She licks up that drink
13:29and I'll close it at $150,000
13:30per primetime spot.
13:32Guys, leave her out of this.
13:38Before we continue,

13:44You have the option
13:45to be notified
13:46for occasional videos
13:47or all of them.
13:48If you're on your phone,
13:50make sure you go into your settings
13:51and switch on notifications.
13:54Number 1.
13:55The real top story.
13:57The threat of exposure
13:58for UBA's silence culture
13:59seemingly dies with Hannah
14:00after an overdose.
14:01It turns out, however,
14:03that Chip leaked
14:04the initial misconduct story
14:05to protect Alex's job.
14:06They were investigating Mitch,
14:08but they were getting rid of you.
14:11Leaking to the Times,
14:12it was a last resort.
14:16I didn't know what it was going to do.
14:17Alex becomes so distraught
14:19that she can't bring herself
14:20to cover the top story
14:21of a quarantine cruise ship.
14:23Instead, she reveals to the audience
14:25that the internal investigation,
14:27which found no wrongdoing
14:28at the network was fraudulent.
14:29UBA is about to release
14:31an internal investigation
14:32saying that they have been cleared.
14:34This is not true.
14:35It is mostly bull****.
14:37It is all bull****.
14:38It's bull****
14:39and I'm not going to lie to you anymore.
14:40Bradley joins her co-host
14:42in profanely demanding action
14:43against men like UBA
14:44president Fred Micklin,
14:46who is too late
14:47to cut the broadcast.
14:48His career is justly destroyed,
14:50but as season one silently ends
14:52with Mitch mourning
14:52his missed interview,
14:54the morning show's moral ambiguity
14:55speaks as loudly
14:56as it's reckoning
14:57for a corrupt system.
14:58As many Fred Micklins
15:00are out there,
15:03there are billions more people
15:05like me and like Bradley
15:06and like you.
15:07So get loud.
15:09We hope the Freds
15:10and the Mitches
15:11are out there.
15:13What moments on the morning show
15:14do you think should be covered?
