00:00Hey, I'm Mark Wahlberg, and this is the Wired Autocomplete interview.
00:06Do you remember the last thing you Googled?
00:08No, but I remember the last thing my son Googled of me.
00:11Yeah, he was asking me how much money I had.
00:14Don't pay attention to that. That's inaccurate.
00:19Okay.
00:24No.
00:24Although I am named an honorary Philadelphian for playing Vince Papali in the movie,
00:30I made five movies in Philadelphia, and especially as a Boston native and a Boston sports fan,
00:36we have a major rivalry with Philadelphia, so to be named an honorary Philadelphian is a big deal.
00:43Okay, that's a lot of love.
00:44They threw snowballs at Santa Claus.
00:45So, yeah, so you'd be like, hey, you're from Boston.
00:48Like, what part?
00:48They're like, oh, Nashville, New Hampshire.
00:50Yeah, no, no, no. I'm from the hood.
00:51Mark Wahlberg making a new movie?
00:55I just, I'm about to make a new movie, and I just finished a movie.
00:58I don't know if you noticed, but I keep pretty busy in this day and age.
01:04That would be a yes.
01:06I am definitely a diehard Celtics fan, especially now with Coach Joe Mazzula.
01:13He and I share a special bond in our faith and our love for our family
01:18and putting our faith in our family first.
01:19So, shout out to the coach.
01:21I hope you enjoyed Rome, and I hope you enjoyed that restaurant I sent you to.
01:26Is Mark Wahlberg Italian?
01:29Yeah, this fucking guy over here is fucking Italian.
01:32Of course, I'm fucking Italian.
01:33Get the car.
01:34Fuck it.
01:35Hey, stupid.
01:36Get the fucking car.
01:38No, I'm not Italian.
01:39I am Swedish, French-Canadian, Irish, and whatever other little mixture my parents had along the way.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Fuck out of here.
01:49Fuck it, guys.
01:51Fuck it, guys.
01:52Stay right here.
01:53Okay.
01:54We good?
01:55Okay.
01:56Why does Mark Wahlberg work out at 4 a.m.?
01:59Well, I don't always work out at 4 a.m., but on most days, I do.
02:05People, there's been this whole thing about my schedule, and it's gotten way out of hand.
02:09I don't take hour and a half showers, but I do, no, I get up.
02:13If I get up at 3 a.m., there's a good chance that I went to bed at 7 p.m., so I always get eight hours sleep.
02:21I truly believe that recovery, good rest, is just as important as working out, if not more, as is nutrition.
02:26But, yes, I got up this morning at 3.
02:29I cold plunged at 3.45.
02:30I was in the gym at 4.
02:32I was out of the gym by 5.
02:34I was on the golf course at 6.45.
02:36I played 18 holes in two hours, and then I got stuck in this beautiful studio that I'm reminiscing about.
02:44We shot Boogie Nights here.
02:45That's a true story, too.
02:46Yeah.
02:47Okay.
02:48Why did Mark Wahlberg municipal?
02:50Oh, I missed one.
02:51Sorry.
02:53Why did Mark Wahlberg name his clothing line municipal?
02:56Because, as you know, municipalities are something that are accessible to the public and for everybody.
03:02We are encouraging and inspiring people and challenging people to be the best versions of themselves.
03:07So, whatever level you think you can attain, there's more.
03:11Everybody starts somewhere.
03:13You can start at a municipal basketball court.
03:15You can start a municipal golf course.
03:16You can become a member at Augusta.
03:18You can win the Masters.
03:19There isn't anything you can't do if you're willing to do the work.
03:21So, there is no better name.
03:23And this name is going to be around for a long time.
03:26You'll see.
03:26Why does Mark Wahlberg look like Matt Damon?
03:31I don't know.
03:32Why does Matt Damon look like Mark Wahlberg?
03:33I think, you know what?
03:34I take it as a compliment.
03:36I tell you what.
03:36If people say, hey, I loved you and fucking born identity, I say thank you and I keep walking.
03:41I am not about to try to correct somebody.
03:43I don't have enough time in the day to tell people the difference between myself and Matt.
03:47And he gets that a lot.
03:48And we got a lot of laughs about that when we were doing The Departed.
03:52Yeah.
03:53All good.
03:54Fuck out of here, man.
03:56Okay.
03:58When does Mark Wahlberg go to bed?
04:00You know what?
04:01I tell you, today, it's probably going to be about 6.15.
04:05I turn the television on and I choose not what I'm going to watch, but what is going to watch me sleep.
04:12And it takes about five minutes and I'm done.
04:15Because I usually have a very full day every day.
04:19I go, I get after it from the second I wake up.
04:22And by the time I lay my head down, ready for some snoring.
04:27Well, does Mark Wahlberg eat breakfast?
04:30Of course.
04:31Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
04:33I don't eat breakfast the way I used to eat breakfast.
04:35By the time I used to, I used to get up, I'd be up maybe 15 minutes and I had to eat something.
04:39I always felt like I needed to be eating all the time.
04:41Led to a lot of gut issues for me.
04:44Digestion issues.
04:45Stuff like that.
04:46So, I woke up this morning at 3 and I didn't have breakfast until after golf.
04:51I probably ate about 10, 45, 11 a.m.
04:54But biggest meal of the day is breakfast, small lunch, and a small dinner.
04:59That's usually it for me and I try to do that in a six-hour window.
05:02Maybe on my two toughest workout days, Mondays and Thursdays, my leg days, I'll do four meals.
05:09One little small meal in between in the afternoon.
05:11Nice little snack.
05:13Triple espresso in the morning and then that's it.
05:15But if I'm going to do a fast, four-day, five-day fast, I can drink as much espresso as I want and then water.
05:22That's it.
05:23But I like to fast every once in a while.
05:25Can Mark Wahlberg dance ballet?
05:27I did dance ballet in the other guys.
05:30That was me giving it my best shot.
05:32But I would not say that I'm like a qualified ballet dancer.
05:37That's for sure.
05:38Is Mark Wahlberg the youngest?
05:39Yes, I'm the youngest of nine children.
05:42Can you name all of your siblings?
05:44No.
05:44I forgot most of their names already.
05:46That's such a hard question.
05:48That's like asking me their birthday.
05:49No, of course.
05:50My sister Debbie, rest in peace.
05:53My sister Michelle, rest in peace.
05:55My brother Arthur.
05:56My brother Paul.
05:56My brother Jim.
05:57My sister Tracy.
05:58My brother Bob.
06:00And my brother Donnie.
06:01And my mom actually had two miscarriages very late in pregnancy.
06:04So I would have had an older brother, and I would have actually had a younger brother.
06:09You know, she never stopped trying to have more.
06:12How old is Mark Wahlberg?
06:16In Boogie Nights.
06:19When I shot Boogie Nights, I was 25.
06:23I was 25.
06:25So, yeah.
06:2729 years ago in this studio, popping fireworks.
06:30Paul was 25 as well.
06:3125.
06:34Imagine that.
06:35It's crazy, right?
06:36Long time.
06:37Goes by fast.
06:39I was just thinking of Bill Paxson and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
06:44They worked together on Twister before we shot Boogie Nights, and Bill was working across
06:47the street.
06:48He and I had just done a movie, and I was over here doing Boogie Nights and wanted to try
06:52to get them to reconnect.
06:54How much does Mark Wahlberg eat today?
06:55Well, I said that already.
06:57Three meals.
06:58Four meals.
07:00Every once in a while.
07:01How Mark Wahlberg gets started.
07:06How Mark Wahlberg gets started?
07:08Mark Wahlberg comes from very humble beginnings.
07:10Mark Wahlberg doesn't mind working.
07:13Okay?
07:14Grinding, working, dream, the plan, the hustle.
07:18Is that a good answer?
07:19Where's Mark Wahlberg's burger restaurant?
07:26We have many locations all over the country and all over the world.
07:29We're also, we're international.
07:31We're in Australia.
07:32We're in New Zealand.
07:33We're in Canada.
07:34We're here in LA on Hollywood Boulevard, and we have many, many new locations coming very
07:38soon.
07:39Never wanted to be in the burger business, but my brother is a very accomplished chef.
07:45He was always working for other people.
07:47He wanted to open his own business.
07:48He opened the first restaurant, which is Alma Nove, which was a tribute to my mother, Alma's
07:52Nine, for the nine children, and she was the hostess there.
07:55And then he wanted to start a burger chain, which I thought was a ridiculous idea.
07:59But then, of course, the entrepreneur in me was like, you know what?
08:02I can actually build this.
08:03So I take care of the business.
08:05He kind of comes up with the customer experience.
08:07Donnie does the marketing.
08:08And it really did bring us together.
08:10And I think the best thing about the show, which created a lot of awareness and excitement
08:13around the brand, really gave my mom the recognition that I think she really desired, but certainly
08:20deserved for raising nine kids in a very difficult situation under very difficult circumstances.
08:25So to kind of get her to reconnect, she became a celebrity herself.
08:30She was kind of like the star of the show.
08:33It really meant a lot to her.
08:34I mean, obviously, she was thrilled to see us become successful, but, you know, she had
08:38worked really hard.
08:39She had dreams of her own.
08:40And so it meant a lot to her when people recognized her and said, what a wonderful job she did with
08:44the kids, because, you know, it was not always the case.
08:49Where is Mark Wahlberg's Hollywood Star?
08:51Let's, on Hollywood Boulevard, by, across from, what's that theater?
08:58What's the hotel?
08:59The nice hotel.
09:01The Roosevelt.
09:01The Roosevelt.
09:02It's near the Roosevelt Hotel.
09:03Across the street, on the other side.
09:05Same side as Man's Chinese.
09:08So that would be north side of the street?
09:11I don't have my compass, I'm sorry.
09:14Um, where did Mark Wahlberg meet his wife?
09:16I actually met my wife through a mutual friend in New York.
09:21We had kind of crossed paths in L.A., but we met in New York through a mutual friend.
09:28How long have you been married?
09:30Trying to give me a lot of trouble.
09:32Uh, 15 years.
09:35Okay.
09:36Can Mark Wahlberg fly a helicopter?
09:38No.
09:39Fuck no.
09:39I could fly a remote control helicopter.
09:41Does Mark Wahlberg own a Chevy dealership?
09:45I own multiple Chevy dealerships.
09:47You want a deal?
09:49A little suburban?
09:51Silverado.
09:52My favorite Chevy?
09:53Camaro.
09:54Eh, Corvette.
09:55Camaro.
09:57Impala.
09:57I actually just had an Oldsmobile 442, 1971.
10:01It was pretty sweet.
10:02Can Mark Wahlberg speak French?
10:06I can say bad words in lots of languages.
10:09Yes.
10:09I've spoken French in multiple movies.
10:11I've spoken now Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Spanish, Hebrew.
10:19Yes.
10:19I spoke quite a bit of French.
10:20Actually, in the last movie I speak, in the last Family Plan, I speak even more French than
10:24I did in the first one.
10:26And I know all the curse words.
10:29Fuck, it's about time.
10:30Putain!
10:32Okay.
10:33What breed is Mark Wahlberg's dog?
10:35Well, I have more dogs than you're allowed in the state of Nevada.
10:38I have, we have, we have five dogs, but technically we have six dogs in the house, and really we
10:47have seven dogs, because now my daughter has a dog named Dickson, a Golden Retriever.
10:55He lives with her, but hopefully after school she'll come home and he'll be with us.
11:01My son Michael has a dog that lives upstairs in our house named Pickle.
11:07He's a wiener dog, you know, the long little, what are they called?
11:10Dotsons.
11:11Yeah, so cute, named Pickle.
11:13Oh, she's a sweetheart.
11:15And then we have two Pomskies, Jojo and Penny, and then we have a Pomeranian teacup named
11:22Champ, who's battling alopecia.
11:24So if anybody has a cure, not offer up some prayers.
11:28He doesn't notice, he doesn't mind, but he was like, oh.
11:31He was like Ted.
11:33And then we have two Boston Terriers, Lola and Nugget.
11:40Yeah, we got a house full of dogs, and usually a living room full of poop that we have to
11:46clean up in the morning.
11:48Jojo doesn't like Nugget.
11:50Jojo is the Pomsky.
11:53He's got that wolf mentality.
11:56Oh, shit, I missed one, sorry.
11:58I'll cover that up.
12:00Can't see that.
12:01What is Mark Wahlberg's accent?
12:04You know, I tried to lose my Boston accent when I got into the movies.
12:10I realized not everybody spoke like me, and for a lot of people it was like nails on the
12:15chalkboard.
12:16And so I was like, you know what?
12:17Going to lose my accent.
12:19Never going to play a Boston character, ever.
12:22I realized some of the most memorable films are me playing Boston guys, whether it be The
12:26Fighter or The Departed or Ted.
12:30Patriot Day, I mean, there's a lot of movies that I've done, Spencer, Confidential.
12:35You know, what's funny is, Perfect Storm, when other actors do a Boston accent, this is a
12:41nice little tidbit I'll share with you.
12:42We were doing The Departed.
12:43And Matt Damon and I are obviously both from Boston.
12:45Most of our other actors weren't from Boston.
12:47There were some actors, not all, but some were like, I think they're going to think that we're
12:52doing too heavy, fake Boston accents.
12:56A lot of people, you know, some people, they listen to JFK.
12:59You know, some people, you know, they all have their paktika and that's it.
13:02But it's a little more nuanced than that.
13:04But definitely try to shake the accent for a long time.
13:07If I have too much time at home or a little too much of something, then maybe it comes
13:14out a little bit thicker.
13:15But my kids love to make fun of my accent.
13:18Not the wicked good.
13:19That's terrible.
13:20That's terrible.
13:21I fucking hate that.
13:23I've never been able to get rid of it.
13:24Like when somebody says, hey, I'm a math hole.
13:26I'm a fellow math hole.
13:27I'm like, why would you call yourself that?
13:30We grew up in Dorchester, right?
13:32So people, they call us dot rats, right?
13:35It's not a compliment.
13:37And people who aren't from there or think, you know, it's cool to be from there.
13:41Like, they call you dot rat.
13:43We get offended by those things.
13:45Okay, what music does Mark Wahlberg listen to?
13:49Right now, I'm crazy into yacht rock.
13:55Like, yacht rock, I have a boat and I know we have the adult boat and the kids go out on
14:01the ski boat and wakeboard and tube.
14:03I go in that fucking, I want to hear some Todd Rundgren.
14:07I want to hear some Michael McDonald.
14:09I want to hear Journey.
14:11I want to see some fucking hit fucking records that take you back.
14:15A little bit of nostalgia.
14:16I don't really listen to music when I'm in the gym.
14:19I kind of have ESPN on.
14:20I'm watching sports highlights from the night before that I missed because I was asleep so
14:24early.
14:24Never know who won the game.
14:26Never usually make it past halftime.
14:28And that's like, it's a West Coast game.
14:30I like, obviously, hip-hop music.
14:32I like reggae.
14:32I like rock and roll.
14:33I like R&B.
14:34My kids are now in, like, not all of my kids, but two of my children specifically are into
14:40country.
14:41Which is like, so random.
14:43But it's cool.
14:44But yeah, I'm mostly listening right now.
14:47Yacht rock.
14:48Classic rock.
14:49All right.
14:51Well, thank you guys for all the wonderful questions.
14:53Hopefully, I answered as thoroughly as you'd hoped.
14:56And, you know, make sure if you get a chance, please check out Play Dirty on Amazon Prime.
