THE ULTIMATE BEAR FISHING FRENZY
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
Watch as brown bears clash and compete for salmon in an incredible display of raw power and precision.
The dramatic scenes were captured by Christopher Ang, a wildlife conservation advocate from New York, USA, during a four-day trip to Katmai National Park, at Brooks Falls, Alaska.
Thousands of salmon fight their way upstream to spawn, creating a feeding frenzy that draws dozens of bears to the waterfall.
Normally solitary and territorial, the predators tolerate one another here, though fights and wrestling matches still break out over the best fishing spots.
The rare footage shows the split-second moment when bears catch salmon mid-air, proof of the extraordinary timing and instinct needed to survive in the wild.
Christopher said: “The leap, the bite, the snap of jaws—it can all be over in 1/1000 of a second. It’s pure chaos until suddenly, everything aligns in perfect harmony.”
