00:00In 1973, during the Arab-Israeli War, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia made a bold move.
00:06He cut off oil supplies to the West in protest of their support for Israel.
00:10In response, the United States issued a stark threat.
00:13If Saudi Arabia didn't resume oil exports, they would consider destroying the kingdom's oil field.
00:19But King Faisal was not a man to be intimidated.
00:22He replied,
00:23You may be the ones who can't live without oil.
00:26Go ahead, walk with your oil. But perhaps you forget we come from the desert.
00:30Our ancestors survived on nothing but dates and milk.
00:33We can return to that life if we must.
00:35But never will we allow innocent blood to be shed without a stand.
00:39Even if all the Arab leaders gather and accept Israel's occupation and the division of Palestine,
00:44we will not be part of such betrayal.
00:47His message was clear. Dignity over dependence. Justice over convenience.
