In 1973, during the Arab-Israeli War, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia made a bold move.

He cut off oil supplies to the West in protest of their support for Israel.

In response, the United States issued a stark threat.

If Saudi Arabia didn't resume oil exports, they would consider destroying the kingdom's oil field.

But King Faisal was not a man to be intimidated.

You may be the ones who can't live without oil.

Go ahead, walk with your oil. But perhaps you forget we come from the desert.

Our ancestors survived on nothing but dates and milk.
