00:00For those of you who are not from Newcastle, welcome. This is our city, the
00:07place we're lucky enough to call home. At this time of year, at Bar Beach, the
00:12whales are playing, the weather is sensational, and the parking is free.
00:18Just look at that view. To me, this always felt like the right place to
00:27remember, reflect, and honour the lives lost and forever changed by the tragic
00:32events of October 1st, 2005. I'd like to begin by acknowledging the traditional
00:39custodians of the land on which we meet today, the Walburukul people. I pay my
00:44respects to the elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal
00:48and Torres Strait Islander's people here today.
00:52Today marks 20 years since the second Bali bombing in 2005. It was an event that
01:01robbed our community here in the Hunter, but so many people from all over
01:05Australia, and indeed the world, were devastated by what happened in those
01:10three restaurants that night. So we come together, not only to mourn, but to want
01:18the resilience, courage, and unity that emerged from that tragedy.
