00:00The potential health risks of vaping have been all over the news.
00:03But if you're thinking about switching to rolling your own, that has risks too.
00:07A new study published in ACS Omega delves into the elemental composition
00:11of a variety of commercially available cannabis rolling papers.
00:14Forbes reports that the authors found that about one-quarter of the papers tested
00:18contained elevated concentrations of copper.
00:21And some of the papers contained other dangerous heavy metals like chromium and vanadium.
00:25These substances can cause health problems.
00:27The study's authors identified certain inks as a major source of copper in the papers
00:32and recommended that those inks' use be discontinued by manufacturers.
00:36This isn't the first time that concerns about rolling papers' safety have been raised.
00:40In 2020, SC Labs reported a cluster of rolling papers which had been contaminated
00:44with the pesticide chlorpyrifos.
