00:00College is the ticket to a well-paying job.
00:02No, it isn't.
00:03Over the past 30 years, getting a four-year degree,
00:06or even more than that, has gone from a pretty solid decision
00:09for individuals who are looking to open their career prospects
00:12and even ascend in class status to, in many cases,
00:15a fairly predatory institution that
00:17leaves young people in debt with vanishingly small
00:20opportunities for lucrative enough employment
00:23to justify all the money they took out.
00:25According to entrepreneur.com, a college degree
00:27isn't the stepping stone it once was
00:28to a better job and a better life.
00:30In fact, studies show that while less than 20% of college
00:33graduates leave campus with a job,
00:34a staggering 80% leave buried in debt.
00:37And yet, every spring, 18-year-olds around the country
00:39are being fed the narrative by basically every authority
00:43figure in their lives that a four-year degree
00:45is the primary, if not the only, ticket to the kind of life
00:48they're probably dreaming of.
00:49We've basically locked ourselves into a situation
00:51where young people are forced into a bad economic prospect
00:55in order to have a fighting chance at a job that
00:57doesn't pay them enough.
