00:00
The Attitude Era was great and amazing and peaches and cream.
00:03
That's what the power of nostalgia does.
00:05
And yes, it was brilliant, but it wasn't a constant home run.
00:08
There are some truly bizarre participants we have totally forgotten about.
00:12
So I am Simon Miller.
00:13
Let's drag them back into the conversation right now.
00:16
Number 10, Giant Silver.
00:18
That's right.
00:19
Giant Silver was part of the Attitude Era.
00:21
But how?
00:22
He was part of the group known as the Oddities,
00:24
which was just famous for hiding people like this
00:26
because John Tenter was in there too.
00:28
It's a flippin' earthquake.
00:29
I suppose this is why the WWF snuck Giant Silver in there,
00:32
because look at his CV.
00:34
The man was a former basketball player and MMA fighter,
00:37
known very well to a specific audience,
00:39
when he did pop up in the company for a year from 1998.
00:42
Really, it was just a look to the future
00:44
as he was out there in the Happy Giant role,
00:46
which Vince McMahon loved.
00:47
Think Albert when he became the hip-hop hippo,
00:50
or Broadus Clay,
00:52
when for no reason he was a dinosaur.
00:54
I'm not sure I can even give you one story about Silver
00:56
in terms of what he did during his run.
00:57
It was just sort of there.
01:00
That was really weird.
01:01
Number 9.
01:01
Just Joe
01:02
Joey Legend helped train me when I jumped into wrestling,
01:05
and I can tell you this.
01:06
He is way better than you realize.
01:08
It's why he made it to the top,
01:09
because that doesn't just happen when he was indeed reborn as Just Joe.
01:13
That was his gimmick tool.
01:14
For no reason he popped up in backstage segments,
01:17
and before other wrestlers could get mad,
01:18
he extended his head and said,
01:20
It's cool.
01:21
It's Just Joe.
01:22
You really could have made something from this,
01:23
given how mad the late 90s were,
01:25
but this was very much a case of creative getting bored.
01:28
After a few weeks,
01:29
there was no more word about it.
01:31
When the WCW buyout happened,
01:33
legend was never seen again.
01:34
Given the whole point was for Joe to cause havoc behind the scenes,
01:37
this could have been great,
01:38
and a perfect way to fill in some holes,
01:40
because trust me,
01:41
in the Attitude Era,
01:42
the amount of plot holes we did have was ridiculous.
01:45
So,
01:45
you need to make sense of it.
01:47
It's Just Joe.
01:48
Number 8.
01:48
Pantera.
01:49
No,
01:50
not a metal band from the 90s.
01:52
That also would have been odd.
01:53
From 1997 to 1999 though,
01:55
which many people do dub as part of the Attitude Era,
01:58
Pantera had 19 matches in the then light heavyweight division.
02:02
And yes,
02:02
that's ridiculous,
02:03
19 matches over two years.
02:05
In your house,
02:06
no way out of Texas in 1998 was his biggest moment,
02:08
where he faced Takamishinoku,
02:10
and lost.
02:11
Of course,
02:12
WWE then signed a deal for a lucha show called Super Astros,
02:15
and Pantera got drafted to that.
02:17
It was a huge error.
02:19
I don't think that program had more than two episodes.
02:22
In terms of the WWF side of things,
02:24
he really could have been their Rey Mysterio,
02:25
but we have talked about this.
02:27
The company was not interested,
02:29
and the only reason wrestlers of this ilk even got on the show
02:32
was to try and combat what WCW was doing.
02:35
What could have been.
02:36
Number 7.
02:37
Brackus.
02:37
This guy always comes up.
02:39
Seems to have somewhat of a nice following.
02:42
All people just found him strange.
02:43
Brackus was in the door in 1996,
02:45
because he looked like a pro bodybuilder,
02:47
and we know the deal there.
02:48
Vince McMahon loved it.
02:50
There are plenty of stories of Vince backstage,
02:52
just in awe of his vascularity,
02:54
and that is fine.
02:55
If that's your thing,
02:55
it's cool.
02:56
The problem was Brackus could not go in the ring.
02:58
He certainly tried,
02:59
and even had a small excursion to ECW
03:01
before returning in 1998,
03:03
but yeah,
03:04
with no clue what to do with him,
03:06
he was put in the brawl for all,
03:07
and got his ass kicked.
03:09
That was the end.
03:09
He was soon released,
03:11
which goes to show,
03:12
muscles do help.
03:13
They are not everything.
03:15
Number 6,
03:15
Southern Justice.
03:16
Now this could have worked.
03:17
It was the team,
03:18
formerly known as the Godwins,
03:20
and as their gimmick was pig farmers,
03:21
they needed an updated one for the Attitude Era.
03:24
Enter Southern Justice.
03:26
They debuted in June 1998,
03:27
under their real names,
03:29
Dennis Knight and Mark Canterbury,
03:30
and looked like they could kick your ass.
03:32
We all forget this,
03:33
but these two were huge.
03:35
Everybody was back then.
03:36
They affiliated themselves with Jeff Jarrett 2,
03:38
which should have been a great unit.
03:40
When Canterbury's issues caught up with him,
03:42
and he was forced to retire through injury.
03:44
Jeff would head back to the competition eventually too,
03:46
and of course,
03:47
Knight became Midian.
03:49
What a damn shift.
03:50
It's why we don't remember them,
03:51
because they were barely together before they split up,
03:53
so it is a shame.
03:55
This could have gone a lot differently,
03:56
especially in the late 90s.
03:58
Groups really were the in thing.
04:00
Number 5,
04:01
K Quick.
04:01
I am pretty sure R-Truth was around
04:03
when wrestling first kicked off as an idea.
04:06
The man doesn't age,
04:07
and he just keeps going.
04:08
His win with the Miz at WrestleMania 40
04:09
sort of summed up how the fans feel about this guy,
04:12
because it was nothing but love,
04:13
and yeah,
04:14
K Quick,
04:14
as he was known then,
04:15
was around during the Attitude Era.
04:17
This was the year of 2000,
04:18
where the chess pieces were being moved,
04:20
including the New Age Outlaws.
04:22
Because the Road Dog needed a new partner,
04:24
these two were put together.
04:25
It felt like they could become a thing,
04:27
when disaster struck again.
04:29
Jesse James left the company after some personal issues,
04:32
and that all became quite problematic.
04:34
Quick had him any singles run,
04:35
before he was let go,
04:36
and yeah,
04:36
he soon went to TNA as R-Truth,
04:38
and became the world champion.
04:40
And be warned,
04:41
if you do track this down,
04:42
some of his promos,
04:44
he was not holding back.
04:45
It does mean it was a blink,
04:46
and you'll miss it cameo throughout this period,
04:48
and here we are in 2024,
04:50
and truth is still around.
04:52
I absolutely love it.
04:53
Number 4,
04:54
BB.
04:55
Brace yourselves,
04:56
the madness has arrived.
04:57
It's no big secret now,
04:58
though,
04:59
that women during the Attitude Era
05:00
were not treated right.
05:01
It was more than them just being eye candy.
05:03
Sometimes it got really dark.
05:06
It feels like this is why BB was hired,
05:08
also known as Barbara Bush,
05:10
because her main role seemingly was just to be a model
05:12
under the banner of wrestling.
05:14
Know the deal.
05:15
She dated in 1999 as a paramedic,
05:17
which is when,
05:17
yep,
05:18
Jerry Lawler especially,
05:19
was stunned that somebody working in the medical industry
05:22
could have big breasts.
05:23
Don't know how to put it,
05:24
but now I hate myself.
05:25
I think even WWE realized they needed more than this,
05:28
so in 2000,
05:29
the Dudleys got their hands on her,
05:31
and powerbombed BB through a table.
05:34
This was their gimmick at the time.
05:35
You do not remember this,
05:36
though,
05:36
as from saying hello to being written off.
05:39
Only four months passed.
05:40
Alrighty then.
05:41
She only had one proper match,
05:43
too,
05:43
which of course was an evening gown encounter
05:45
with Miss Kitty Ivory and Jacqueline
05:46
at Armageddon 1999.
05:49
Now,
05:49
I have said that.
05:50
Let's just move on.
05:51
Number three,
05:51
Sniper.
05:52
It's another weird group,
05:53
and boy,
05:54
howdy.
05:54
In hindsight,
05:55
this was crazy.
05:56
The Truth Commission.
05:57
If you know,
05:58
you know.
05:58
You will instantly notice
05:59
Bulba Cannon and Currigan in there,
06:01
who is also linked to the oddities.
06:02
So who is the third guy?
06:04
Well,
06:05
that's Sniper.
06:06
Of course it is.
06:07
Between 1997 and 1998,
06:09
this was Bill's go-to partner of choice,
06:11
and man,
06:12
did that become a thing.
06:13
Old Snipe only worked one singles WWF match
06:16
the whole time he was there.
06:18
This was against Ken Shamrock
06:19
in February of 1998 on Raw.
06:21
Somehow,
06:22
he lasted five minutes.
06:23
By April,
06:24
he was gone when he returned
06:25
to his native Germany,
06:26
although that wasn't the worst.
06:28
He was CWA champion when he left,
06:30
so I'm sure they were all very happy
06:31
when he came back.
06:32
Number two,
06:33
Key.
06:34
Ah,
06:35
boy.
06:35
If you thought this was Gangrel at first,
06:37
I get it.
06:38
Yes,
06:38
the name.
06:39
Just think about it for a second.
06:41
I bet you'd like a Key event.
06:43
This is also Vic Grimes,
06:44
for people with the knowledge,
06:45
who debuted on Raw in July 1999,
06:47
and had a grand total of one match
06:49
after that on WWF Shotgun.
06:52
Key teamed with Droz and Prince Albert
06:54
to get a squash win.
06:55
What a trio that is.
06:57
Almost like we just pushed
06:57
our hands together.
06:58
He was going to work with the Godfather
07:00
when an injury to the pimp stopped that,
07:02
which is when Grimes was sent to ECW.
07:04
Management felt like he needed
07:05
more experience.
07:06
There really isn't much else to say
07:07
about his Attitude Era run
07:09
as he was basically forgotten about,
07:10
but again,
07:11
he was called Key.
07:13
I'm not sure what people were thinking.
07:15
Number one,
07:15
Babu.
07:16
Or Abu.
07:17
That was his name when he debuted in 1998
07:19
alongside Tiger Ali Singh,
07:21
when magically he became Babu.
07:23
Either way,
07:24
this was the worst part of the Attitude Era.
07:26
It's just offensive stuff.
07:27
Babu had wrestled a lot for ECW,
07:29
whereas the WWF just wanted him
07:31
to be an on-screen character
07:32
for the most part,
07:34
although he was Pablo Marquez at one stage,
07:36
fighting in the Cruiserweight division.
07:37
He then got two matches in the B-Shows
07:39
when he was tied to Tiger,
07:40
which was an issue,
07:42
because as soon as Singh was let go,
07:43
he was too,
07:44
Babu was gone.
07:46
I wouldn't bother looking up this gimmick either.
07:48
It's just the bad side of wrestling.
07:50
Basically,
07:51
one horrible stereotype.
07:53
Know any other wrestlers that were around
07:54
during the Attitude Era
07:55
that we've all forgotten?
