01:39and at its heart is Sigiriya.
01:431,500 years ago, this region was the centre of power in all of Sri Lanka,
01:49a place where royalty rose, fell and faded away,
01:53a place of secrets, intrigue and forgotten arts.
01:56It's hard to believe that this was only rediscovered in the 1980s,
02:00but since then it has undergone a restoration of epic proportions.
02:05It's a citadel, truly fit for a king.
02:08And you know what they say, small throne, big kingdom.
02:12This is the lost kingdom of Sigiriya,
02:16and the setting for the ninth leg of the Amazing Race Australia.

05:32We're both raising kids of our own, and there's just something about this race
05:36and something about the experiences we're having and the people that we're meeting.

10:04Cobra the other person must find the courage to reach into the basket and retrieve the token if they

14:02so there's a station when you go get that station on there we grew up in new zealand we don't have
14:10snakes so if you're playing the flute you sit on that one i'll play the flute because i actually play
14:15the flute but this is oh this is a recording i've never seen a cobra before in my life wow i really
14:22don't know what to expect look at that that's impressive though isn't it over here wow for
14:29better or for worse we're not really scared of snakes what's your problem oh whoa you've got a tongue so

15:51a detour is a choice between two challenges each with its own pros and cons in this detour
15:58teams must choose between fire dance or fire mask in this challenge teams will need to learn the art
16:05of guinea traditional fire dance that's well it's so hot right now teams must master the complex
16:12choreography keeping strict time with the beat then end the dance with a bang get it right they'll
16:20receive your next clue get it wrong and all this is very flammable
16:31blacked out for a bit of my life in fire mask teams will paint a traditional raksha mask it's
16:37believed to bless the wearer and ward off evil spirits one team member must paint the intricate
16:43details of their partner's headdress while having their own face painted it's a memory challenge
16:49that also tests communication skills and patience once the local artist is satisfied they'll receive
16:56their next clue and just to keep them on their toes they'll be self-driving tuk-tuks to their next
17:05location and for the remainder of this leg there we are oh that's not a boot chuck it in the back

29:32i'm sweating a lot for this challenge so you need to pull your together take your shirt off
29:36whatever stop sweating turn towards bags i need a freaking neck brace do you know how much this weighs
29:41i'm about pop on social media we share a big part of who we are by the way we respond to each other
29:49we respond very openly that's our gift but it's also it's our kryptonite sometimes as well
