Transcript
00:01If you love cars, and who doesn't, this is the perfect time of the year.
00:06And that means it's time for the world's greatest collector car auction.
00:09Solve! Solve!
00:11Well, the bidders loved it.
00:13Whatever apple that Snow White bit into, it did not have this candy apple red paint.
00:19$100,000 cars, one after another.
00:23Barrett-Jackson's an auction, but it's also a time machine.
00:27You're gonna see a little bit of everything here at Barrett-Jackson.
00:31Now it's time to sell cars, and there are plenty of them.
00:35The docket this year is just absolutely unreal.
00:38The energy in the room, this place is so electric.
00:42Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale isn't just a three-ring circus, it's a 12-ring circus.
00:48Let's go crazy!
00:49Yabba-dabba-doo!
00:50These are blue chip collectibles.
00:52Just like any thrill ride, it's gonna grab you, it's gonna shake you around.
00:56The best is still to come.
00:58The crew is back in Scottsdale, Arizona.
01:25The best of the Barrett-Jackson car auction is on deck, and we are revved up.
01:32We've seen a number of Eleanor tribute Mustangs paying homage to the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds starring Nicolas Cage.
01:42Here's another one built on a 68 Ford Mustang.
01:45And the significance of this one is that this is an officially licensed.
01:50It has a certificate of authenticity.
01:52It was issued by Eleanor Licensing.
01:54Of course, that is the result of having it licensed by the family, the Haliki family.
02:00And so, as a result, does it look any different?
02:03Is it any better?
02:04Well, it has that certificate, and it says this is the lineage of the real thing that came from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds.
02:12The remake, of course, with Nicolas Cage.
02:15And to signify its movie credentials, they have the Gone in 60 Seconds lit up in the back between the Shelby-style scale lights.
02:24You can see right here has nitrous-injected badge as well because it does have the nitrous bottle in the back and the Go Baby Go button just like in the film, but not like in the film is the interior.
02:36This thing is dramatically upgraded with sort of the, well, I'm not sure what that shape is.
02:41Hexagon, octagon, I was really bad at shapes when I was a kid, but, yeah, beautiful custom interior, center console, manual transmission as well.
02:49And you'll notice on the, just above the glove compartment, it's got Carroll Shelby's signature.
02:54Carroll Shelby, if you shipped him something, he would sign it, and the money would go to the foundation, so he was more than happy to sign a lot of things.
03:01Rarely did he actually come out and sign the car.
03:04Usually, the piece was shipped to him, and he did it that way.
03:07Wow, it's even numbers time at Barrett-Jackson.
03:10That one for $200,000.
03:13Rolls off to its new home.
03:16How about a 1971 Plymouth Cuda convertible up on the block?
03:21You know, the 70 had such iconic styling with the single 7-inch round headlamps, the big open grille,
03:28and then they went to this for 1971, making the Cuda look a whole lot like its crosstown twin, the Dodge Challenger.
03:37Well, you got a numbers matching, 340 cubic inch, 4-barrel under the hood, and, yeah, this one got a full rotisserie restoration to how it was born.
03:49And, yeah, that very, very 70s color with the, you know, the side 340 stripe down the side, and the, yeah, luggage rack on the trunk.
03:58Here's what's very helpful are these plates on the inner fender on the driver's side.
04:04Each one of those three character codes indicates an option or feature that was born on this car.
04:10Mike, you just can't look away from the color.
04:14Something that really always stood out to me is that Mopar made such bold choices with their colors.
04:19You know, usually the cars were in a lot less numbers than your comparable Camaros and Mustangs,
04:23and one of those things that I think made people really just jump out is the wild color choices.
04:28You wouldn't see this make sense on a lot of other cars, but it looks great on here.
04:33And this car is very rare.
04:35Only 102 convertibles were built for the 71 model year, and only seven were built with this drivetrain combination.
04:44Yeah, you look at photos of roads back in the 60s and 70s, you know, cities and all the cars parked in all the colors,
04:51and nowadays, well, and we don't see as much a bunch of silvers, blacks, whites, blobby crossovers.
04:58This is the golden arrow right here, or the brown arrow.
05:03The color is Tawny, T-A-W-N-Y, gold.
05:09There's something about the interior on these two that really always jumped out to me,
05:13made them so different, all of the Mopars.
05:15The way it all just feels sort of molded is one piece, one color, one fit.
05:20It's very different than some of the other contours and contrasts you saw at the time.
05:24Those buckets are kind of odd.
05:25They have zero lateral support.
05:28None.
05:29I had the same ones in my 70 Charger.
05:31It's a lot like sitting in a bench seat when you make a real hard turn.
05:35As long as the door is not open, you're in good shape.
05:38$142,000.
05:39Man, she is jumping up and down.
05:42She is so thrilled that they just came away with that Cuda convertible from 1971.
05:4869 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet gets pushed away from center stage.
05:54Well, we've seen an awful lot of great customs and restomods cross the block.
05:58I absolutely love when we get something like this.
06:00A 69 Mustang Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet, like you said.
06:04But this has been done to a Concours level restoration.
06:07Everything about this is original the way it's supposed to be.
06:11All right.
06:12$150,000 is the hammer price.
06:17Very modern.
06:18A 2024 Ford Shelby Super Snake.
06:22And again, an instant collectible.
06:25These cars were built in limited numbers from Mustangs that rolled off the factory assembly line and then went to Shelby in Las Vegas.
06:34They built 250 of these.
06:37This one is serial number 66.
06:39830 supercharged horsepower.
06:43Borla exhaust Shelby suspension.
06:4520 inch forged magnesium wheels surrounding Brembo calipers and rotors.
06:53Wow.
06:54A lot of performance here in this very limited production Super Snake.
06:58Yeah, it's got those hood pit locks, the carbon fiber hood extractors, carbon fiber wide body front fenders, the front fender vents.
07:08Boy, everything, almost every inch of this has been reworked in one way or another.
07:13And the thing I love about the Mustang generation is, you know, you can buy yourself an EcoBoost, pretty simple Mustang, or you can have one that's wildly done up and there's room in the market for both of them.
07:25But, Rick, it's also really cool, you know, when Mustangs really took off, we wouldn't have thought that one day we'll see a bronze set of wheels on a red car like this.
07:33The way that the trends and the rest of the automotive world have really come over to this.
07:37And it, honestly, it is just such an insanely great car to drive and spend some time in.
07:43It's a beautiful ride.
07:44And we are at $165,000 bid.
07:47Rod, I feel, I'm from an age that feels that the wheels are part of the car's jewelry.
07:53And they should be celebrated as such.
07:55My son is 25.
07:56He likes black wheels on his car and I'm, no way.
07:59No.
08:00It's funny how that's changed, right?
08:01Like that used to be such a different thing.
08:03And now some people want to color match them to the body.
08:05Some people want to blend them in.
08:07I really like gunmetal wheels that don't show brake dust quite as much.
08:10But I think the bronze out here, it really does pop.
08:12It looks great.
08:13I just clean my wheels and I don't have that problem.
08:16So it's amazing.
08:17Get a little bright chrome on there.
08:19To be honest with you, Mike, I'm with you.
08:20I don't mind, you know, chrome and black, but I want bright work.
08:24$180,000 for a 2024 Shelby Super Snake that has just 140 miles on the odometer.
08:33Essentially a brand new vehicle.
08:35And like Mike said, that is an instant collectible.
08:39Coming up next.
08:41When it comes to custom pickup trucks, the possibilities are endless.
08:44But you see three common themes.
08:46You can go low.
08:47You can go high.
08:48Or you can go crazy.
08:49And a lot of them have huge power under the hood.
08:53Let's go low.
08:54Lot 1326.
08:55A 1956 Sport F100.
08:57Lowered on a roadster shop chassis.
08:59Shaved and smooth in all the right places.
09:02Byron blue paint.
09:03And under the hood, a 7.3 liter supercharged Godzilla V8 for 700 horsepower.
09:09Laser time, a 1971 Chevy K5 Custom.
09:18This is very nicely done in the two-tone red and white factory color scheme.
09:25CST trim, that Chevrolet sport truck.
09:28And how about this interior?
09:31We're not talking houndstooth here, folks.
09:33We're going fully plaid.
09:35How about that with Silverado trim?
09:38Yeah, I guess the next owner can buy a shirt to match their interior as far as that look.
09:43I personally love it.
09:44The lift is just the right amount, say, about three to five inches.
09:48You have the 35-inch tires as well.
09:51And a very high-quality truck.
09:54Now, for the big, big bucks, we usually see an LS swap under the hood.
09:58This one just has a nicely dressed-up 350 engine, but otherwise very high-quality throughout.
10:05She looks pretty happy about that.
10:12$79,000 for a 1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Custom with a 350-cubic-inch small block V8 under the hood.
10:22We're closing in on six figures for this 1976 International Scout II Custom.
10:31There it is, $100,000.
10:33We've seen a lot of scouts here at the auction, maybe a record number.
10:37There's the first one to cross into six figures.
10:39Easy to see why.
10:40Beautiful rotisserie restoration.
10:42Great color, the graphics on there.
10:45304 cubic inch V8 under the hood.
10:48Perfect lift on it, off-road tires.
10:50They call it Bad-As-A-Z-Z Orange in dynamic black roof accents.
10:57And the nickname for this thing is Billy Goat.
10:59And just about everything you'd want to see on a custom SUV is here.
11:03And I think we've seen the biggest money so far for a Custom Scout.
11:08This one just sold here at Barrett-Jackson for $107,000.
11:13Up the block right now, we've got a 1983 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Custom.
11:19So the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, or the G-Wagon as it's abbreviated, was only available through the gray market or special order for many, many years.
11:31But the demand was so great, especially in those, you know, great off-road enclaves like Beverly Hills, that Mercedes decided to import them.
11:40And they do.
11:41They've done a great job with this.
11:43This is what it is.
11:44This was earlier, 1983.
11:45Sharp yellow.
11:46You'll be a star wherever you drive this.
11:49You'll be noticed.
11:50Let's not call it school bus yellow though.
11:52For the block right now, 1971 Chevy C-10 custom pickup truck.
11:581,800 man hours invested in this build.
12:01Big block V8, Turbo 400 automatic, fully boxed and detailed frame.
12:07Airbag suspension with a C-notch in the rear.
12:11Air conditioning, 14-inch Corvette Z06 brakes.
12:15Look at that tailgate.
12:17Everything done just beautifully.
12:18A lot of work.
12:19I can see where it came up with 1,800 man hours.
12:22Boy, that is just spectacular.
12:24Look at the truck bed.
12:26A lot of work went into that one.
12:29Away it goes.
12:30Congratulations to the new owners.
12:31I think you're going to enjoy every moment with that.
12:34Going up behind it, we got a 1956 Ford F-100 custom pickup truck that Tyler previewed a little bit earlier.
12:41Beautiful truck here.
12:42And look how that base coat, clear coat pink just gleams here at Barrett-Jackson.
12:47The consignor wants the hood up.
12:49He is justifiably proud of the 7.3-liter Godzilla motor that lies beneath.
12:56Yeah, what a great name for a crate motor and absolutely massive power with these things.
13:01I think it's something around 700 horsepower with that crate motor.
13:06But then you can see the quality of the build as well.
13:08You can't see any wiring.
13:10Everything all tucked away thanks to these extra wheel well covers, an extra firewall.
13:15And then it's been widened by taking the factory fenders and then sending them out.
13:19You can see that in the front and the back.
13:22All really well done.
13:23The quality on this one is just spectacular.
13:26I've been waiting for someone to do this.
13:28Take one of these crate motor conversions and put a modern automatic transmission in it.
13:34And this one is a 10-speed.
13:37Much like you find in today's passenger cars.
13:40Well done.
13:45Yeah, you can see the little touches where, you know, the bumper has been shortened.
13:49It's less wide.
13:50And then they integrated the dual exhaust.
13:52The truck bed has been raised to fit all the suspension underneath it.
13:57Not that you're going to haul much in this truck anymore.
13:59This is all show.
14:00It's just stunning.
14:02This one has already won a number of awards.
14:04For example, up at the hot August 9th, it was the Peppermill overall best of show.
14:09It was a good guys award winner, best of show up in Boise.
14:14They've done a number of shows with this and just about everywhere it goes, it comes away with the top prize.
14:18$250,000 that 1956 Ford F100.
14:31Up on the block, a 1983 Ford Explorer.
14:37This is, of course, a Jurassic Park tour vehicle recreation.
14:41Yeah, this one is a recreation.
14:43It was a 100,000 mile Tennessee Explorer that was given a very authentic looking wrap with the Jurassic Park movie graphics.
14:54So, underneath, it's your average 100,000 mile Explorer.
14:58But here with, well, a little bit of whimsy and movie pedigree somewhat.
15:03One thing it is missing, though, is the giant vista roof, which you remember from the film where the kids were attacked and the T-Rex came through.
15:10And the only thing stopping them from getting eaten was that glass that punched down.
15:14The kids holding it up, of course, flipped over, ripped apart, thrown into a tree.
15:18What an iconic movie, Spielberg, just the imagination there.
15:22And the birth of CGI being so realistic.
15:25It's just one of those films, I guess, I don't know, I was eight or nine years old when it came out, and it just stuck with me forever.
15:30It's one of my favorite films of all time.
15:33I have a Jeep at home, a Jurassic Park Jeep.
15:35I don't have the Explorer.
15:37The bid, though, pretty strong, I feel like, $14,500.
15:40Yeah, I think you better get some graphics for your Jeep, you know?
15:44Of course, the favorite thing from that movie for me of all time is when the Tyrannosaurus Rex is chasing the car, and in the mirror it says objects are larger than they appear.
16:02Yeah, that's a federally required warning on every convex right side or passenger side exterior mirror to this day.
16:14Well, and that Jurassic Park tour recreation vehicle just sold here at Barrett-Jackson for $20,000.
16:22The way it goes, all the stickers, all the graphic, all the fun.
16:26A 1957 Chevy 150.
16:29This one is a custom gasser, and this is the first one we're going to see today from the Brian Frank collection.
16:35So gasser is kind of a catch-all term, and it's applied to cars that have been modified, lightened in the front.
16:43Look at that straight-axle front end, very little weight there.
16:46The whole idea is weight transfer to the rear to hook up the rear tires for going down the drag strip at a quarter-mile distance just as fast as possible.
16:57Love those big, tall injector stacks that you showed.
17:00This is a fuel-injected car built on a rather basic 57 Chevy but to a high standard.
17:10Yeah, 509 cubic inch V8, so it doesn't just look like it's fast.
17:15It's probably legitimately fast.
17:16You can see they sort of went with the period, though, and didn't over-tub it.
17:21Yeah, there's slicks on the back, but it looks like something you would have got if you were hot rodding it in the period.
17:25The blue tint on the windows to match the paint, that is really cool.
17:29So a lot of period equipment, speed equipment here.
17:33Check out this gas pedal.
17:35Dean Moon's Moon Equipment made those, and it's like extra big to make sure you get your whole foot down in the right place.
17:43That's drag racing stuff.
17:45Yeah, but it's got those little ridges on either side so your foot doesn't slip off as well, which is so important.
17:52$125,000 for that absolutely spectacular gasser rolling off the block.
17:58Right behind it, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible.
18:02And this is another one that was restored by Amos and Justin Minter.
18:08Yeah, another 312 cubic inch V8 with the dual carburetors under the hood, as you can see.
18:15And once again, the Minter restorations are just out of this world with the quality.
18:21Looking better than new, but everything correct.
18:24Yeah, the double bump there for the dual carburetors.
18:27And then everything just kind of polished up, but better than new as far as the radiator, as far as the fan.
18:32And then you go to the inside here and the interior.
18:36This one is a three speed manual with an overdrive.
18:39So fun to row your own gears with this one and that beautiful dashboard there as far as the machine turn finish in the baby blue.
18:49Star mist blue is the official name of that color.
18:52You know, everybody loves the baby birds, 55, 56, 57.
18:56They'll talk about these.
18:58Now they forget that in 1958, when we went to the four cedar Thunderbirds, the square birds, the sails jumped tremendously.
19:05But when you look backwards, boy, what a great style.
19:08It's just epitomized where things were in those mid 50s.
19:11Of course, that bullet tail light right there that was made to look like the exhaust on a jet engine.
19:16That was the exact design.
19:18And it just sold here at Barrett-Jackson for $165,000.
19:25Up in the block right now, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air Custom.
19:30Top of the line, Bel Air for 1955.
19:33This one has been Restomod and has a lot of custom touches.
19:36It is nice that it retains pretty much all of its original trim.
19:41Many of these were in two tone.
19:43This one, however, is not all that gleaming stainless trim all the way down the side.
19:49And Chevy wanted everybody to know that you had bought their first year overhead valve V8 with a V on the hood and Vs underneath the taillights on both sides.
19:58$117,000 for that very custom 1955 Bel Air.
20:06The Moonshine Runner, it showed up on the block.
20:08This 1957 Ford Custom 300.
20:12Well, you know, this being the base Ford model for 1957, if you were a moonshiner driving this, you could have been confused for a revenuer because a lot of them drove cars very much like this, although often four, not two doors.
20:28Well, they sure wish they probably had this power plant back.
20:31They massively upgraded from the period, but still vintage with the stacks.
20:36I imagine it's still a throttle body fuel injection individually, made it look like, you know, the individual throttle bodies back in the day.
20:43This one, manual transmission, you can see the rear seat delete, and they put a bunch of moonshine in the back, as Rutt pointed out, in the back and in the trunk.
20:53Very cool.
20:54So the lack of the back seat, that is factory on the base Ford 300, because a lot of these were salesman's cars, and they carried samples in the back, didn't need a back seat.
21:07I guess if you're moonshining, you're carrying samples, well, that's a whole different thing, right?
21:11Well, tell you what, you give a car like this 751 horsepower, you're going to bring big bucks.
21:18We're closing in on six figures, currently bid at $90,000.
21:24And away it goes.
21:26We did make six figures after all, $100,000 for the moonshine runner, this 1957 Ford Custom 300 Coupe.
21:392011 Camaro 2SS, this is a Hennessy HPE 600.
21:46John Hennessy's company is most often referred to in Mopar parlance, where they have modified everything from the Viper, to the Charger, to the Challenger.
21:55But they did a lot of work with GM.
21:57This is vehicle number 81 of a series, 2SS custom convertible with an HPE 600 package.
22:04You get a supercharger engine management system, and it's rated at 600 horsepower.
22:11Well, they gave you a little window into that 600 horsepower there in the hood, sort of reminiscent of the C6 ZR1, which they're going to emulate there.
22:20Hennessy, better known as tuning existing vehicles.
22:23Vipers, a lot of amazing power out of those.
22:26And, yeah, most recently with Chevy.
22:28So, yeah, really cool, the body kit as well.
22:30Tens of thousands of dollars in upgrades to this Camaro, and only 8,000 actual miles.
22:38Oh, I do like that it is often as a manual transmission as well, 6-speed.
22:45But all that power, man, you're going to be fighting for traction.
22:48Should be a lot of fun, wow.
22:50Yeah, that's always the complicated aspect of putting power and making sure you can lock it up, whether you go with bigger tires,
23:01or whether you go with just the proper rear suspension, the stuff necessary to get that horsepower to the ground always complicate things.
23:08602 horsepower from that one just sold for $55,000.
23:13Now, much more modern behind it, a 2010 Aston Martin V8 Vantage convertible.
23:18Well, they have the Vantage, and they have the Vanquish, had a lot of V models.
23:25What's unfortunate about the way this car is presented is the top is up.
23:30That's fine.
23:31But when you drop the top, you have these beautiful headrest fairings covered in the leather of the interior.
23:39And just gorgeous.
23:41These are great, great touring cars.
23:44They drove great.
23:46They didn't require any extra maintenance, at least mine didn't.
23:50And, boy, it was a thrill to drive and a thrill to own.
23:53Yeah, Aston Martin, you were talking about all the cars they built and only cars at that time.
23:58So you had the Vantage, DB9, Vanquish.
24:01They had that weird garage.
24:03The garage, the four-door, yeah.
24:05Yeah, well, there's the garage and the Rapide, I think.
24:07The Rapide was the four-door.
24:09So a very interesting lineup with no SUV, which they have now is pretty much a requirement.
24:15But there was one point where they had four or five coupes or convertibles that confused a lot of people.
24:19The Vantage was the entry-level model with the V8.
24:22They didn't make the V12 Vantage.
24:24That's not it.
24:25And this one, an automatic transmission.
24:27If I were buying one, I'd want a Vantage coupe with the manual transmission and the V8.
24:32Get that James Bond look with the maintenance and low maintenance and growing your own gears.
24:37Clear taillights were among the long option list for these cars.
24:41And if there's a knock on these, and there shouldn't be, it's the grille.
24:46The Ford Premier Car Group, which include Volvo, Aston Martin, and others, lent its grille shape to the Ford Fusion.
24:55Oh, well.
24:56I suppose in Jaguar, of course, shared a lot of that look as well.
25:00So they were sharing the look.
25:02I don't know if it downgraded the Aston Martin as much.
25:05But, yeah, I think we have quite a bit of depreciation off new, though, at least $100,000 off right now.
25:11This is a pearlescent metallic white.
25:14They call it morning frost white, and it's gorgeous.
25:18And it just sold for $46,000 for that 2010 Aston Martin V8 Vantage with 420 horsepower.
25:28Up on the block now, we get a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.
25:33Well, Dodge had a lot of fun with styling on these.
25:37This hood scoop recalls some of the pro stock cars of the 70s.
25:42They also had one that was like the AAR Cuda with a NACA duck.
25:46But the 170, boy, this thing is so fast, it went from zero to $130,000, just like that.
25:53Yeah, the specs pretty unreal on these as far as Dodge going out with the second generation of, you know, the glory days of Mopar with a bang.
26:00A thousand horsepower, the zero to 60, somewhere around 1.6-ish seconds.
26:05Crazy quarter-mile times as well.
26:08And, yeah, you can see the giant rear slicks this one set up already to go drag racing.
26:14And, yeah, these were instant classics when they came out and selling well over their MSRPs, as I think we're seeing right now, just about to its MSRP.
26:24This one has 1,004 miles on the clock.
26:29Let's see, at a quarter mile at a time, in a straight line.
26:33Yeah, okay.
26:34Well, as our good friend Steve Magnante likes to say, the good old days are right now.
26:39I mean, you realize this is factory horsepower that, you know, remember in the 1970s, we couldn't have fathomed having a car with this much horsepower coming out of Detroit.
26:49$135,000.
26:54That's what it's going to sell for.
26:55The Summit Racing Soul sticker goes on, and away it goes for $135,000.
27:02Let's check in with April Rose.
27:03Hey, Rick.
27:04I'm with this absolutely stunning 1958 Corvette Resto Mod.
27:08It is unbelievable what builders do with these C1s.
27:12Gorgeous rose gold body.
27:14Now, I was talking to the builder.
27:16He said it takes him weeks and weeks to actually choose which color.
27:20He'll take samples inside, outside, under different lights, the decisions that are made, and it's all super well done.
27:27He got your LT1 up there with little LED lights just to highlight that, like we're at a car show.
27:33Well, basically, this is a car show.
27:35Check out inside.
27:37Bourbon leather, weaved.
27:39You've got your wool carpeting tack right in the right spot directly in front of the driver.
27:45This is gorgeous.
27:46Oyster coves on the side.
27:48And he went all the way to build this beautiful build book.
27:53And this is what I like to see, a book with no words.
27:56It's all pictures.
27:57But these pictures do say a thousand words, Rick.
28:00Well, thanks a lot, April.
28:031957 Corvette Custom rolling up.
28:08The 1957 is the last year of the single headlights on the first generation Corvette.
28:14And the first year for mechanical fuel injection, the Rochester fuel injection.
28:18This one, yeah, it's fuel injected, but it's been upgraded with an LS3 under the hood.
28:23Oversized wheels that look period correct, the modern chassis and all of that.
28:27But very stock as far as the pink color choices, the trim, and everything else.
28:32Well done.
28:33Yeah, the wheels give it away.
28:35They look like 18 inchers, and this would have been born with, what, 14s or 15s.
28:40The interior is an upgraded take on the original.
28:45But the colors are authentic, including those white painted coves.
28:50So beautiful presentation, but not to be confused with a stock one.
28:57I actually really like what they did with the dash as far as the centrally mounted tachometer
29:02with the gauges flanking on either side.
29:04And the vintage air looks almost stock, like how it would have left the factory.
29:08But obviously you didn't have all those gauges back when it was new.
29:12The exhaust still exiting out of the correct place in the 57,
29:16the little bumperettes here on the side.
29:18And you hope for $300,000 already.
29:21Jeez, it's coming so fast now.
29:23And that's exactly what it sells for, $300,000 for that 1957 beautiful custom job on a Corvette.
29:39Congratulations to those folks right there.
29:411963 Corvette split window up on the block.
29:44Well, this one looks quite stock for an original Stingray.
29:50But wider wheels and tires than it was born with, with some faux spinners.
29:56Now they had a couple of different levels of 327.
30:00The lowest got just plain stamped steel orange valve covers.
30:04The higher level got these beautiful finned aluminum covers.
30:08But none of them got a trumpet fuel injection.
30:11No, and none of them got a modern LS.
30:13So that's been dressed up to look vintage.
30:15A great job done there.
30:17You can see the fuel injection badge on the side.
30:21Because the 63 in top trim or engine choice would have come with a fuel injection.
30:26Rochester, obviously.
30:27Modern fuel rail injection there.
30:29And yeah, 63, the iconic split window.
30:32One year only.
30:34We were surprised when they first started taking 63 split windows and doing radical customs.
30:39But now it's pretty commonplace to see.
30:41And the results when it comes to the bidding, very strong.
30:45Yeah, $210,000 already.
30:50Yeah, this one was built by Doug Rippey, who's just out of Chandler, which is one of the cities in the Phoenix area.
30:56He's both the owner and the builder on this thing.
30:58And the quality of this from top to bottom is great.
31:01That is a name I recall from Corvette Racing back in the showroom stock days.
31:06And they oversized the wheels, even though they do look somewhat stock with the white walls, to increase the stopping power as well.
31:20Willwood disc brakes all the way around.
31:23Perfect slightly lowered stance.
31:25And yeah, $212,000.
31:28Those brakes were a great upgrade because in 63, all Corvettes came with four-wheel drum brakes.
31:34$212,000 for that young man.
31:37Congratulations for that 1963 Corvette split window custom.
31:42Up on the block now in 1958 Corvette custom.
31:47First year of the quad headlights with the chrome headlight bezels and stainless steel trim.
31:52The one year only washboard, the fake louvers on the hood.
31:57This Joe Clevenger Pro Touring style build has a 2023 Chevy LT1, 460 horsepower, 4-speed automatic power rack and pinion steering.
32:09A way better than original seating here in leather but retaining the original style dashboard.
32:19Yeah, I like the leather weave there with the grab handle and into the seats as well.
32:26Much lower like we're seeing with other Corvettes as far as the stock seats so taller guys can fit in there.
32:32But also lower to the ground with that Art Morrison chassis, way upgraded on the suspension and the brakes.
32:38But the wheels again milled to look like a stock Corvette but several inches larger than stock.
32:45But all the beautiful gingerbread and chrome that you would have gotten in 1958 is retained on the body.
32:52The exterior is referred to as rose gold.
32:55Yes, I would say it is with contrasting codes.
33:02We're closing in on half a million dollars.
33:05The current bid is 450,000 for this 1958 Corvette.
33:09Yeah, when we get there to half a million dollars, let's see.
33:19But, yeah, it's just the little touches, like I said, where it just takes a Corvette to the next level.
33:25You saw the little details on the interior, the presentation of the engine, the chassis dialed in just right,
33:31the period correct looking wheels, and that's what sends it up to the stratosphere here.
33:36Everything under the hood is color matched to the exterior.
33:43Incredible detailing here, top and bottom.
33:49Well, that's what it's all about.
33:50I mean, it's not just the fact that you build a great Corvette.
33:53It's the attention to detail, making sure that the concept flows from front to back.
33:58And this one just sold here at Barrett-Jackson for $480,000.
34:05A 1958 Corvette Custom.
34:08Coming up, one of my all-time favorites, this 56 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.
34:15Goldwing is just getting ready to cross the block.
34:18Not a car I don't want to miss.
34:231961 Corvette Custom up on the block.
34:28Well, like many of them that we see, this one has a Roadster shop chassis and a new modern LT4.
34:35That's a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, putting out 650 horsepower, 4-speed automatic transmission,
34:43coil-over shocks, C7 Corvette front spindles and hubs, and sway bar, and rack and pinion power steering.
34:51A lot more efficient than what it was built with.
34:54Yeah, that LT4 is a great power plant.
34:56What makes this one unique is the color choice, sort of the Panda style as far as it being white and then black in the coast with the two-tone.
35:05You see the electric lift going up to see the supercharged LT4 and everything tucked away perfectly, Panda style as well.
35:13Everything blacked out with the engine and then immaculate white in the engine bay with everything tucked away.
35:19Black hard top.
35:20And then if you look at the interior, you can see they make seats now that are much lower and deeper than the stock Corvette seats to where a tall guy can easily fit in these things.
35:29I have a 62 at home and I struggle to fit with the stock seats and the hard top.
35:34I like the shot wheels, 19s in front, 20s in the rear.
35:38Big Wilwood disc brakes all the way around.
35:42Idol, 20s from the bar.
35:44Yeah, the stock Corvette pearl badging as you can see.
35:54And, yeah, very wide wheels in the rear.
35:59In the rear.
36:00made it my favorite of the first generation corvette builds up the bunch just because just
36:04because i'd never seen it before as far as the reverse normally it's all white in the coves and
36:09with the black wheels that sort of in the front that go into the codes i think it really works
36:14with this one the stance is also a bit lower than what we normally see and i think yeah definitely
36:20works as well modern coilover suspension i suppose you could adjust if you wanted to go up a little
36:25bit but i personally love everything about this well you're not alone heavy bidding on this one
36:31worth 325 thousand dollars multiple bidders have been in it all the way now chevrolet was de-chroming
36:40the corvette in 1961 the headlight bezels were body color not chromed so this has gone back to the 1958
36:4759 style bezels which were chrome with the stainless strips running back along the top of the fenders
36:55a nice contrast with that house of color bright white paint
37:00and i was talking to the consignor when i was looking at this and similar to jeff haise he
37:05retired early from his day job at nine to five and started building corvettes he said about six
37:10in the last four years brings myself barrett-jackson that's a pretty amazing one and it just sold here
37:15at barrett-jackson for three hundred and fifty five thousand dollars all right one of the ultimate cars
37:21a gullwing let's listen to craig magnificent cars great rally cars this cars had paint interior been
37:29gone through immaculate condition joseph nine had to get out thank you mercedes built 311 300 sl gullwing
37:40coupes the high sill was part of the frame design to give this car incredible rigidity for racing and
37:47rallying they're all accounted for many of them had great competition history not this one the u.s
37:54mercedes importer max hoffman ordered this one and we have a complete chain of ownership provenance
38:02since new here's the fuel injected straight six cylinder single overhead cam engine leaned over to
38:09the side for a much lower hood line and lower height overall
38:16yeah mechanical fuel injection manual transmission the gullwing doors are as much form as they are
38:22function because this does have a tubular chassis way ahead of its time and that big sill they needed to
38:29clear it so the gullwing doors was a logical option and yeah this is considered by many to be the
38:35original supercar because of its cutting edge technology its stunning design craig jackson uh
38:42here is saying a bit about it take out and rally now million 25 and a million well craig's owned one or
38:48two of these over the years i remember when i first came to barrett-jackson i was out at phoenix speedway
38:54for the nascar race and craig had a display there for the auction company and a silver 300 sl gullwing
39:02was on display red gray now when they restored this fully mercedes classic works very very hard to
39:10provide parts for their older cars they supplied the windshield the belly pans and other parts directly
39:17from mercedes for the painstaking restoration of this one i know you mentioned max hoffman who was
39:24the original importer of this he's also the guy who went to mercedes-benz and said you know that w196
39:30you're building is a great race car what why don't you build a street version of it he said i think if
39:35you do that i bet i can sell a thousand of them he wasn't sure he could but it turns out he was right and
39:40this has become one of the most spectacular production cars probably with the first true
39:46super car from the production perspective those little eyebrows over the wheel openings the double
39:51humps along the hood have been repeated countless times on mercedes cars over the years
40:01well and how many cars have recreated the gullwing doors i mean you know whether it was mercedes doing
40:07it again or other manufacturers those gullwing doors are a true icon just in the design the way
40:13they did them oh it's just a beautiful car we're putting in the 70s tesla most recently though they
40:22call theirs falcon wing doors same idea we're at a million 250 270.
40:28and once again similar to the race cars you have a little air pass through here uh to get fresh air
40:39out of the cabin or hot air i should say one million two hundred and seventy five thousand dollars for a
40:471956 mercedes-benz 300 sl gullwing congratulations to the new owners i think you're gonna enjoy every
40:54moment with that the auction may be over but the action never ends i'm craig jackson join us next time
41:03for barrett jackson rubbed up
