00:00Big breaking news coming in right now India has won the Asia Cup finals so they have defeated
00:07Pakistani team and India has clinched the cup this match was happening this final of India
00:14versus Pakistan was happening after many decades in India the men in blue have finally beaten the
00:22Pakistani team it an highly anticipated match that has now ended in a humiliating victory for
00:32Pakistan and it is not just the finals that Pakistan had to face a defeat this is the third
00:40time that India has beaten Pakistan in Asia Cup celebrations have already started in corners of
00:48the country as you can see there on your screens people celebrating people celebrating the victory
00:59of India and joining us now is the Nikhil Nas from Dubai Nikhil over to you thanks a lot we
01:15are coming to you live from Dubai and even as I speak firecrackers are going up in the air
01:21celebrating India's victory in the Asia Cup remember this is India's ninth title at the Asia Cup they are
01:30by far the most successful team of the tournament and the cherry on top is the fact that they've
01:35beaten Pakistan in the final not once in fact in this tournament three times they've beaten Pakistan
01:42joining me is mr. Sunil Gavaskar say why I'll have to say even though I'm very happy and very relieved at
01:48the moment that India has won I was chewing my nails but my heart rate was probably at the highest how
01:53was it for you throughout the game it was at its peak it looked like you know if the heart was going
02:00to burst anytime because what we saw in the first three you know dismissals was hard to understand
02:07hard to comprehend because it was not a big target you're not changing 190 200 where you needed to
02:12look to score of just about every delivery what you needed was really to get a nice solid start not
02:18necessarily a 60 or a 50 in six or in the first six hours but you needed maybe even a 35 40 and
02:26even a 35 for one that's what you needed you didn't need 20 for three because that is what opened the door
02:31for Pakistan that is what got everybody nervous and I think again over here if the bowling screen very
02:39good and and the you know the bowler has you know got you out then it's another matter yeah but here when
02:44the batters get themselves out looking to play shots which were not required at that stage that
02:48does cause a little consternation as well as a fair bit of nervousness just as I'm talking with
02:54Mr. Gavaskar the chants of Chakde India Chakde India can very well be heard right outside the stadium
03:01because this was a close encounter for the very first time in this tournament India huffed and puffed
03:07to a victory yes versus Sri Lanka it became close but then that was an inconsequential game this was the
03:13all-important final time I'll break the game down a little later but first if you just look at the
03:18game as objectively as possible you'd have to say that this was worthy of a final at least that the
03:25game that we guess at the end of the day actually you know in a final limited overs final any game that
03:29goes into the final over in the last over of the of the game then it becomes a very good game because
03:35it becomes a tight game but look hey no who wants a tight game you just want to win which is in a
03:41comfortable you know as far as India is concerned always want to win which is comfortable everybody's
03:46relaxed chill you know okay the odd way it goes that's what you want but then that said full marks
03:52to Kila Korma for the way he kept his cool for the way he batted and looking to take the signals
03:58occasional you know six but even when he went for the locket shot it was a very calculated properly
04:04executed shot so not just you know blinders going and you know trying to sort of you know hit the ball
04:10because you know I have to hit the ball why why did you think that happened because you're talking
04:15about those situation that actually put India into trouble some of those shots that were played was
04:19it also the slow nature of pitch that you had to change your batting style nothing you just chose you
04:25just decided that you see in this format of the game and in the in the 50 overs format of the game
04:32there is a lot of premeditated cricket understandably so because you want to you know look to attack the
04:38bowler so sometimes you know you are anticipating a certain delivery so you look to play that shot
04:43mentally you're saying this is the shot i'm going to play but the ball is in that slot it comes off
04:47the ball is not in the slot then it doesn't so you know so that is what happened and that is what
04:53that's where you we lost those three wickets and uh it certainly put a little scared i'm pretty
04:59certain in the in the change room uh the indian players must have been nervous i know they had
05:03back in depth they had akshar patel who didn't get too bad so you know uh you could you could in that
05:09that sense say that yes it was a comfortable win but a comfortable win would really be if the match
05:14had been finished in the 18th or 19th i'm i'm also getting to hear zahimai because there are pictures
05:20being shown on the screen right now from across the country our reporters are sending a lot of pictures
05:25what i can hear in my ear is bharat mataki that is what is happening just put this particular win
05:30into context i know it's an asia cup it's not an icc tournament india has won much bigger trophies
05:35but in the context of what was happening the build-up we saw a few celebrations here and there
05:41not only previously but in this game as well how important was it for india to win this title well it
05:46was important not tournament it was important uh yes i think that's what the the purpose of entering
05:52an event is that to go on to win the tournament but i think the greater thing was about beating
05:57pakistan and that is what they've done not once not twice they've done it three times and while the
06:02first two were you know a walk in the park this one was a little bit where you had to huff and puff
06:07but i think this is where the indian team showed its character like they showed their character uh two
06:12days ago against sri lanka uh the way they came uh came back and you know got the match tight so that
06:19it went into a super or the way the bowlers came came back but this is this is i think a tournament
06:25we we will talk about abhishek sharma obviously yeah you know the fantastic starts that again but i
06:29think this tournament really belong to the indian bowlers to the indian spinners in particular kuldeep
06:35varun chakrabarti and akshar patel akshar got more of overs to bowl uh in this game because
06:40are the kandia was not there but this tournament has been won by our bowlers more than anything
06:46else okay that's a very interesting take by mr gavaskar let's now break this game down firstly
06:51was there any stage during this game where you thought okay game is gone 24-3 you're sitting at
06:56was that the stage you've just lost shubhman gil or you had faith at this batting we had we had you
07:01know we had a we have batting depth and then we saw that even akshar patel didn't get too bad
07:05so rinku also won delivery so there was so there was there wasn't any fear that you know but you
07:11never know in this game of cricket sometimes you know nerves can get the better of you sometimes you
07:16know you you know you you because of the pressure of you know two dot balls see this is the thing in
07:22this t20 format you play two dot balls any batter is looking to get out of jail and the get out of jail
07:28shot is only a six they're not even thinking this is this is just a complete situation they're not even
07:33thinking let me play along the ground or you know play it slightly uh chip it over over a fielder
07:38for a boundary they are only thinking two dot balls three dot but it has to be a six and with the
07:44bats that they have today and and the boundaries being brought in you connect fine but if you don't
07:49connect it goes up in the air and you're gone knock of the match of course uh is to tilak 69 not out
07:57is it the knock of the tournament i'm thinking because of the context the situation where it was
08:03would you say yeah i mean abhishek has played a few good knocks yes to be honest i didn't didn't
08:09see all the all the matches but abhishek is that okay let's just put it down to india india yeah
08:13yeah because patum patum nesanka has had a knock brilliant innings the other day but from an indian
08:19point of view you could say that yes i think uh the knocks that abhishek played and today tilak
08:25i think they were the best in the tournament because you said that certain indian batters needed to adjust
08:31today depending on the kind of target that you were chasing what is it and a very interesting
08:36point that you make that you know upping the net run rate does not always mean that you have to be
08:41whacking the ball right that that's the other thing what is it that tilak varma did today from which the
08:46other batters can learn to bat in this situation he he made every ball count for something he was
08:51knocking it for singles you see at the start he's knocking it for singles running between the wickets
08:56getting the circulation going in the legs when you come into bat you know the legs can be a little bit
09:01stiff if you're sitting in the change room for a while and so i think just getting those singles
09:07you know getting getting the circulation in the legs helps your footwork as well so that is what
09:12it did and what happens with the left hand right hand combination at the crease when you keep taking
09:16singles the opposition captain has to look at changing the field the bowler has to look at changing
09:21his line and length that eventually helps both the batters okay still can hear the dhols being played all
09:28across uh india now the one thing that you said before this game started be careful about your
09:34fielding it has to be taught notch today no drop catches some good catches taken good ground feeling
09:39i saw multiple occasions where four was also stopped whether in the infield outfield that was the
09:44difference because in pakistan's case they dropped a couple of catches yes look good fielding has always
09:51been something which adds to your bowlers it adds an edge to their to it adds a sharpness to your bowling
09:58attack because you're making it difficult for the battles to get easy runs whether it is singles or
10:03whether it is you know cutting off a boundary uh in the deep or just restricting it to two so those
10:09things make a difference and i think today india's fielding was top notch something that we've come to
10:13expect over the last couple of years what we've seen is you know i mean they were moving so quickly to the
10:19ball they were attacking the ball they were you know when the catches that were taken they were
10:23they were looking to sort of get to the ball and get you know get hold of it so so all in all i think
10:32maybe they were a little bit casual in the previous game but this time around they gave it everything
10:36and that was a delight to see real delight to see that as does often happen you batters hog all the
10:43limelight that'll happen now even though you've given credit to the bowlers i completely agree but because
10:47thilak has played that match winning knock that will be spoken in the next few days to come in
10:51fact uh dare i say even for next few months as well as years to come but i take you back to that pakistan
10:58innings they are sitting pretty on 113 for one with nine wickets in hand and from there they collapse
11:05losing nine wickets for just 33 runs do you think that's where the game comes of course yes definitely
11:12at one stage with when there was just one wicket down i think they were 90 for one it looked like
11:18in the next 10 overs they could easily get another 10 runs and over get another another 100 runs and get
11:24to 190 or 200 that looked an eminent possibility so those wickets that were taken uh kuldeep got three
11:32wickets in and over but the uh the big wickets were taken by warun chakravarti he got both the top scorers
11:39he got farhan who got 57 and and zamano got 46 all the other with single digit scores i mean you know
11:47but these two are the ones who relate the foundation for pakistan unfortunately uh it looked like you
11:54know the foundation this the cement was adulterated okay adulterated cement be wary of that don't do that
12:05uh looking at india's performance overall in this tournament still i know they they got a bit of
12:09a scare still the only team that's undefeated in the tournament so far fair to say that they are
12:15i mean they are of course world champions in the format but also the best team in the world right
12:20now look at that record i think now it's stands at 36 is 23 36 wins three losses yeah very much very much
12:27uh the the the best team in the uh in the game in the t20 format and the best team in the game no
12:34question about it absolutely okay we've got mr gabaskar with us uh still a little bit more to come with
12:40him but let's also listen in to the heroes we got uh rinku singh varun chakravarti all of them
12:47are being spoken to by the broadcaster so let's quickly listen into them
12:51yeah i feel great uh definitely uh at that time uh i i was going for the vikets and
13:17fakar and uh shaibzada faran they were going well and uh yes i had done some plans and it worked out
13:24and the way but kuldeep came and finished yeah it gave me memories of kkr when we were playing together
13:29and he's always a star he's the best one of the best spinners yeah so if you see the trend in the
13:34last few matches uh the first 10 hours everyone is going berserk and if they don't lose wickets so
13:39after that we can we knew that we can if we bowl on the right space and right line
13:44uh sunny gavaskar still with us we heard from rinku singh we heard from varun chakravarti rinku finally
13:51getting uh one game today uh saiba you'd have to say i mean there was no hardik pandya india went in
13:57with that option of not playing an extra fast bowler in hindsight would you say lucky that they won the
14:03toss and got to chase had it been the other way around and you're just playing with one fast bowler
14:07who knows how the game would have pat down well i mean yeah that's that's that's one of those ifs and
14:11butts of the game but i think uh rinku coming coming in strengthened the batting and the feeding
14:17he took catches as well so i mean that makes a huge huge difference you know when uh you know you have
14:24somebody as outstanding as rinko singh he stops the uh the boundaries he takes those catches the first
14:30catch that he took uh you know when he ran to his left and took that catch was absolutely outstanding
14:35the one question i is to keep asking you i think i asked you a couple of times before
14:39uh the final happened what will happen on the day abhishek sharma does not fire you've gotten the
14:45answer to that you got the answer to that but you also saw that once it doesn't get runs it is
14:53important that the others you know take the responsibility you cannot leave it to only one
14:58man to all the time get to get you off to the kind of start today what was needed chasing that score
15:04was a sensible start nothing nothing you didn't need a flamboyant start you didn't need a dazzling
15:11start you needed a sensible uh start which is what india didn't get that is exactly what india probably
15:18needed to look at or when they were approaching this particular game abhishek sharma has been the
15:22star but today it was tilak who really stood out for the indian team and they won say i know you are
15:28very careful you like your sweets but you're very careful in your consumption of sweets but this is a
15:32special win yeah so would you make an exception have some mitai tonight to celebrate oh definitely
15:40yes i think i will i mean it's a bit late to have i'll have it arranged yeah so a bit late to have
15:46any mitai but maybe something you know for the seat maybe an ice cream or something might be a good idea
15:51more than me yes yes we've got him in fact i you know i feel for uh the indian team that were playing
15:57and that actually takes me to the other question we were looking at hartik pandya
16:00misses out the game because of cramps now takes you back to that decision thankfully you'd say
16:05india has won the game otherwise we would have been here standing and talking about did he need
16:09to play that sri lanka game maybe a lesson for the future yeah maybe a lesson for the future i think
16:14you've got to win when particularly and that's the reason it's a good thing that they gave just with
16:19bumral a break for the sri lanka game didn't play because there was just a one day gap between between
16:24the matches and uh and so therefore uh you know it's never easy because of the because of the
16:31weather maybe uh some other time it would be fine and uh you know i'm just think thinking to myself
16:39that in case it was the other way other other way and then if pakistan had trade on on the friday
16:45and then got into the final on on sunday yeah and didn't do well they would have said you know the
16:51organizers have done it in such a way that you know they got one day rest one day rest only that
16:57that clearly has not happened last couple of questions with mr gavaskar before uh we let him go
17:02one about uh you know the gesture made by jaspeed bumra he celebrates and again there is a reference
17:08because that seems to be a political reference going forward we know harris rauf was spoken to by the
17:13icc match referee uh do you think there was a need to be doing that could he be called up by the match
17:19referee or do you think this was fair because it was in retaliation to what had happened previously
17:23well the fee has got to be called by the match referee it has got to be done now because otherwise
17:26tomorrow morning they're all on a flight so can you do a phone call con call you won't be available
17:32for that so but yes i think to your question uh i think uh you got somebody's wicked even the send-offs
17:42that we see sometimes you know which which the icc frowns on leave aside you know um gestures
17:48which can allude to some uh political message or something like that but even send-offs and all
17:54with you which the bowlers give you get pulled up by the match referee yeah i don't know i to be
17:59honest i didn't see that um but uh and he's a very sensible guy he's one of the most sensible you
18:06know level-headed uh you know guys you can come across uh just with bumrabe so i don't know why
18:12uh uh he did that i know he did it to uh harris rauf harris rauf who had been doing something similar
18:19yes to the you know to the crowd on the boundary uh last sunday maybe maybe to just show him whatever
18:26it is but uh well we'll just have to wait and see if the icc match referee pulls him up
