00:00In Austin, we built housing.
00:01You know, we just allowed developers and capitalism to take place.
00:04So we built housing.
00:05Guess what's been the largest rent decrease in the nation?
00:08Austin.
00:08Why? Because it's extra housing.
00:09Yeah, we built so much housing.
00:11Yeah.
00:11Zoning in the U.S., it's crazy.
00:13You know, we're supposed to be like this capitalist bastion of freedom,
00:16but we don't let anyone build what they want on their property.
00:19So you live in a neighborhood, and in order to get a coffee,
00:22you have to drive 10 minutes because no one can build a coffee shop in the neighborhood.
00:25Right.
00:25Because we tell people what they have to build
00:27instead of letting the people determine the market,
00:29and the market determining what gets built.
00:32But what if somebody next door builds like a neon light shop or something?
00:36Yeah.
00:36And they put billboards up in their yard.
00:38Like that kind of thing, I feel like would lead to war.
00:41Yeah, that's more like HOA.
00:43But a whole state or a city saying,
00:45no, you're 40 minutes from City Hall.
00:47You can't build a bakery there.
00:48Right.
00:49Sorry, a highway has to go there.
00:50Yeah.
