America Ferrera didn’t waste any time after receiving an Oscar nomination for her performance in ‘Barbie’ as she quickly got back to work with a starring role in ‘The Lost Bus.’

She spoke about that time in her life, and collaborating with Matthew McConaughey while attending the Special Screening for her new film in London.

America plays school teacher Mary Ludwig in the survival drama film which is inspired by true events which happened during the 2018 Camp Fire in California. ‘The Lost Bus’ is directed by Paul Greengrass and is out on Apple TV+ on 3rd October. 00:00I've been looking at the America timeline over the last two years and I think that
00:13probably when you started to film this it was probably just post Barbie awardees and stuff?
00:17Yes. How was it going from that straight into this? Was it an adjustment period?
00:21No, it was really shortly after the Barbie campaign ended. But it was also really nice
00:32to jump into something creatively and shake it up. Getting a movie out in the world is
00:41fun but it's not the same as getting to do your work and making a movie. So it was really
00:48fun to get to just jump into another great creative process.
00:52Your character within this has at one point been in charge of the morale of all these kids
00:57who were terrified on the bus. But when it comes to these long days on set and Paul was telling
01:01me about the bus that you were on, it was hot and it was sweaty in there. Were you in charge
01:04of morale for all the young actors?
01:06You know, I mean I thought the kids were amazing. They were super professional. I know that they
01:11were definitely like looking to me and to Matthew for cues in terms of like
01:18you know professionalism and how do you behave on a set. And also a lot of the scenes were quite
01:24intense and so you know just them watching us stay in character and stay in you know in in quiet
01:32and kind of respects that people are working and you know they were fantastic. And I don't think any of
01:37them were newbies. These were all kids with like resumes and many credits to their names. So they were pros
01:42which was nice. How do you find the experience of working with Matthew next to you? I just saw you
01:47idling up, saddling up to next to you. Was he alright? Look happy and friends still?
01:50Yeah, Matthew's great. I mean I didn't know Matthew at all before we started working together and
01:57I just I really appreciated how um how focused and professional and how committed to the work he is.
02:05And um and you know we really just kind of jumped into the work. It wasn't much of like you know they're
02:11Mary and Kevin are strangers when they meet each other on on in the film and on the journey and
02:17and for all they know they're gonna spend 10 minutes together and it's gonna be like
02:21I'll never see you again you know. So so we actually didn't have to do that like oh let's have dinner and
02:28hang out and get to know each other before set because actually it really worked in our favor to
02:33get to know each other on camera actually and and find our way towards more intimacy the way that
02:40Kevin and Mary find themselves more like okay we've been through something you know and it did certainly
02:45feel that way uh as the weeks went on uh that we were going through something together and that that
02:52really formed the bond and and and you know what what what you see on screen and since then we've got
02:59to spend more kind of offset time together and it's been a blast and he's great and working with paul
03:05was amazing and it was a really great experience
