Broadbridge Heath FC manager Chris Simmons assesses the defeat at Whyteleafe in the Isthmian League south east division
Transcript
00:01Good afternoon and welcome back to Whiteleaf Church Lane. I've got the Bears manager Chris Simmons with me.
00:09Chris, before that game started there was a really poignant moment here, a minute's silence for Billy.
00:17It was quite a very sad and somber moment wasn't it?
00:21100%. I think the feeling was out there for supporters and players alike.
00:27I think every football club across the UK is probably downhearted at what's happened and surprised at what's happened.
00:36It's devastating for everybody at Chichester, for his family. We hope there's some peace and his love to the family.
00:48Today, obviously there was a football match playing here and I'm sure everybody connected would have wanted these games to go ahead.
00:58A 2-1 loss today. Your boys gave 110%. You must be very proud of them.
01:03Yeah, I can't fault the endeavour and the work rate. It's just mistakes and mistakes at this level cost you.
01:12It was a mistake. I don't believe it was a penalty but it was a mistake. We have to be better in possession.
01:20We had good spells in the game but we seem to keep making small mistakes and against sides of this level you get punished.
01:31You've sort of brought them up from the county league. You've had two fantastic cracking seasons at this level.
01:43You're all still learning. It's never easy at this particular level.
01:48What are the objectives this season? Are you looking to get higher up in the table maybe?
01:54Yeah, definitely. At the start of the season, we've had a massive shuffle of players. We lost seven players this year.
02:03Before that was definitely pushing for the edges of playoffs. With such a big changeover, you're never quite sure how they're going to settle.
02:11We've started well but we have got a young side and we're seeing the young side mistakes and that's what we've got to get over.
02:20Obviously, we're going to be pushing as high as we can and if I'm honest with the sides that we've played in Croydon, we're an excellent side.
02:29We've competed with all of them. So, I think if we get a run going, yes, we can be up there but likewise, it's so important to cut out the mistakes and take our chances.
02:40Okay. The good thing, the really good news for the club is that there's something really special happening next week.
02:47You can now really focus on that. Billericchi, who are a massive club, are coming to your place in the FA Trophy. The whole club must be looking forward to that.
03:01Yeah, definitely. I mean, obviously, the problem with keep going in Cups is it's more fixtures and it affects your league games and even your run.
03:13But it's the furthest we've ever been as a club in the Trophy. So, again, it's a history-making thing for the club. Obviously, the financial side is so important.
03:23And, yeah, Billericchi come. We hope they bring a massive crowd. We'll certainly give them a game. We've never been shy of playing good sides, so that suits us.
03:33Hopefully, they'll come and play football rather than launch it. But, yeah, it's a big day for the club. We'll set the club up, no doubt, with everything that you prepare for a big game.
03:43Good. Okay. Well, I'm sure that everyone's looking forward to that. Just going from me, I thought you were definitely worth a 2-2 draw today.
03:51And Callum nearly got you that, nearly. He was my man in the match. I thought he, brilliant first half.
03:57He wrapped the far post with a raking shot that could, on another day, could have easily found the back of the net.
04:04Unlucky today. And from everybody at Sussex, good luck in going forward.
04:09Thank you. I appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
