Interview with Auli’i Cravalho
Transcript
00:00That is so well said. This is the first time in Disney history that a Disney princess has
00:05been allowed to age. I was cast when I was 14. I turned 24 tomorrow. Yeah. So I've had
00:13a decade with this character and admittedly my voice has changed. I have, I have aged. And so
00:19I of course remember doing the film at 15, the film coming out when I was 16, but I've also done
00:26multiple records for firework shows and for Disney on ice and Disney Lego princess. And I always pitch
00:32my voice back up. And I was wondering for this sequel, if I would have to do the same for the
00:37entirety of a minute of hour and 30 minute long movie, but they allowed me to keep my voice in
00:43its natural register. I feel like we see her growth, not only then through my voice, but also through
00:48storyline and through music as well. And it's so nice to see women age. Yes. I watched the original
00:55right after. And I was like, I actually got emotional, like hearing how your voice has
00:59changed. And I was like, Oh, like it's, it's, it's really beautiful. It's incredible how youth
01:03can really be heard through voice. That was one of the main things that, that I remember. I watched
01:08the film as well. Just our OG first film. And I went, Oh my goodness. Like her journey then was
01:15about finding who she was. And now it's about her growing, growing and realizing the journey
01:21ahead will not be easy and straightforward.
