00:07This council is about making sure we continue to deliver excellent services for 340,000 people, our population,
00:16so everyone has a stake in this town hall, everyone has a stake in the communities of Tower Hamlets.
00:22Tower Hamlets Council held a series of events at and around the borough's town hall over the weekend.
00:34Together, the two free events brought more than 22,500 people together with an estimated 20,000
00:42visitors to the Curry Festival and 2,500 people joining the town hall festivities. The borough
00:49intended the weekend to celebrate East London's history of migration and its culinary and cultural
00:58diversity. But they added the events last weekend were held in response to what the borough describes
01:07as the far right march through the capital the weekend prior.
01:13It's the launch, it's the official launch of our town hall, and what we did, we've opened it up
01:23to the people of the borough. They have a tour of the town hall, they can see where politicians sit,
01:29people they've elected, we're public servants, we're their servants, officers who work for them,
01:34where they see it, where they do their work, and they need to have access, they need to be, make sure the
01:40town hall is available for them, and we're celebrating that today. It shows that we are
01:45one community, doesn't matter where you come from, if you're black or white, or you're from any other
01:52part of the world, if you're here in Ta Hamlets, we're one community. We celebrate our diversity,
01:58we celebrate our oneness, our unity. Ta Hamlets, it's a great borough, it's been home to immigrants
02:06over the centuries. The French Huguenots came, settled there, moved on. The Jewish community
02:13came and settled there. Then the Somali community and the Bangladeshi community now.
02:18The Eastern European communities also came here. It clearly demonstrates that whoever you are,
02:24we celebrate you, we are here to serve you.
